Okay, I really need your help guys.My project description is as follows Create a web site providing users with free web based e-mail, free webspace and a database driven college timetabling system. There must also be a search engine that searches the college servers This has to be done in Linux. I have been given a hard drive with Redhat installed on it. I have no idea how to do this !!!! First off, I'll do it for ŭK US.The bulk of the code you write for this project will be platform-independent. Thus, the fact that the server runs Linux is neither here nor there. You need to pick up a web programming language, and quick. Seeing as how you are running Linux, though, I suggest looking into Perl or PHP. PHP will be easier for you to learn if you have any non-Perl programming experience. However, if you have no idea where to begin on this, you probably won't be able to do it. That is the discouraging truth. Even trying to piece those services together from prewritten packages will require some skill. Start with a smaller project. Posted by t|nt|n on Oct. 07 2001,16:35

I think cr0 was pointing out that what you were describing is a serious project in a business environment. If you were hired to put that together and maintain it for a large client base, you'd definitely not want to do it for free. It wasn't clear in your first post what the circumstances were.Class projects are an entirely different matter. You only have to get just past the presentation.
