< http://www.vcdhelp.com > - Your source for digital video info. Also if you can find a copy of the Windows Media tools, that can also convert MPEG files to ASF. ------------------ Posted by ASCIIMan on Jun. 05 2001,02:38
Of seven Western Digital drives I've owned, five have died and one I'm not sure about because I haven't touched it in ~2 years. Two of those were warrenty replacements for previous Western Digital drives that failed on me.Every single one failed with a solid "kthunk-kthunk-kthunk" and a servo motor failure. After the third drive failed I vowed to never again buy a Western Digital hard drive again, and to prevent anyone I knew from buying them. Ever. actually in my experience maxtors are the second best for reliability, only topped by IBM and possibly seagate.

I'm knocking on wood as I type this, but I've never had a problem with my personal HD's. I have a 1 gig WD from 1995 that's still spinning in my NetBSD firewall. After that, I've got a 10GB maxtor, a 15 GB maxtor, a 30GB maxtor and 2 40 GB maxtors. I've never had a problem in any of them, and they are dirt cheap.
