Anyone else played < this >? It's really good. I bought the game today for no apparent reason and while I've only played it one-player so far, it's really good. It's up there with HL story-wise.Anyone else got anything to add? ------------------ Posted by chmod on Sep. 28 2001,22:52
I just downloaded the demo 2 days ago... it froze instantly. My crappy ass video card isn't compatible with a damn thing. But it looked cool though...

As I did play the demo, I like the gameplay smooth and nice. Maybe I am just a stickler for pretty pictures but it made me smile Posted by askheaves on Sep. 29 2001,16:11
I've almost beaten the PS2 version months ago... but I stopped for some reason playing it. However, very nice game. The only things that drove me nuts were that it was TV resolution, and I was using a gamepad in a first person shooter. Both of which should be solved if this download works.

oh look we can blow chunks out of the walls but we forgot to include any other form of gameplay!i didnt really like this game one player. the multiplayer rocks but they fucked up so many possibilites in the single player ------------------ Posted by incubus on Oct. 03 2001,19:21
In what way?I've been playing RF single-played a lot, and it's quite involved and theres lots of depth in there (going undercover, flying in a fighter craft, piloting a sub), and as far as i've got the story is very interesting. What don't you like about it single-player? Or haven't you really played it much and are talking out of your ass? Posted by askheaves on Oct. 04 2001,02:36
What kind of morons release a game in this day and age that doesn't run on Win2K? Or, at least, WinXP. It crashes like a mofo on my computer.

I'll get the PC demo sometime ... see if it's better than the PS2 version. It better be - the PS2 one runs at a shitty 30 fps max, and much less if you're blowing chunks out of the wall.Mind you, Inf-Rocket DMs in the mines are always fun. You can blast holes so deep you can't see out of them. Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Oct. 10 2001,11:32
played the game on both pc and psx didnt really like it. some bits in it are blatantly ripped from half life. vehicles were crap sub was fun for about five minutes until i realised oh look this is exactly the same as the rocket launcher which i've already used to blow holes in polygons yet set underwater. they could have done some madass thing with that total recall drilling truck but that was a wasted effort. they based everything around the geo mod thing which could have been good in one way but ended up being bad in another. good if they used it as a subtle addition and tried to implemnent other ideas with it. but in the end it was "oh look we done this really cool idea but we cant think of how to implement it to its full or think of any other good ideas. we'll just go nick some ideas from half life again".i'll stick with UT and Operation Flashpoint some examples of probably the greatest games ever devised. i'm not saying RF is a horrendesly rubbish game but its not a very good one either. ------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Oct. 10 2001,11:34

I've been following RF for some time.*TRIVIA* What was the original working title of Red Faction? Answers later! I was originally pretty excited about the GeoMod promise, and tried to keep an open mind about the game itself (more on this later). I was cautiously optimistic, and then the SP demo came out. GeoMod is really cool...for about 5 minutes. After that, I realized that this is just another Quake/Unreal ripoff, with a gimmick. It didn't feel any different, and lacked a certain something that keeps me coming back to HL, even tho' I'm not a ground-pounder. And now, *TRIVIA ANSWER*: The original working title for Red Faction was: Descent 4 That's right, folks. How many here are familiar with the Descent series? The basic premise is that you are a mercenary for a large mining conglomeration, named PTMC. Robots in their mines are going bezerk; they're being infected by some sort of nano-virus, and turning on the mine workers. Your job is to wipe out the robots, and then destroy the mines. Now, why did I just summarize this game? Think about the RF storyline: a giant conglomeration, PT--excuse me--Ultor, is having trouble with a miner revolution (in D1, there is a reference to this), and has a problem with a strange "virus" killing off folks (or is it??). The similarities are circumstancial, but combine that with the fact that Volition was originally Parallax, the developers of D1 and 2, and the coincidences are too big to ignore. So, what does this mean? Absolutely nothing to most of you, but it's one more reason why I won't buy this game: Volition took off with the prequel story to the Descent series, killed it with a crappy feeling clone, and stranded the Descent community (of which I'm a part of) without our prequel. Their decision may have made sense (Interplay is a useless, piece-of-crap company--another rant), but it was disappointing. Add to the lack of basic originality, and you've got a game I don't even want to play, much less buy. Oh, and one more thing: Us flyboys 0wn j00 gr0undp0unding l4m0rz, U R 0ur b1tches n u n0 it!! h4r h4r h4r! ------------------ I used to be a kleptomanicac, but I took something for it. just downloaded and played the demo. looks cool! I especially like the glass-breaking effect. Very realistic looking.I didn't like how there is no blood or any damage sprites on the enemies. Takes 2/3 of the fun out of shooting guys! Posted by The_Stomper on Oct. 11 2001,13:54
Odd ... the PS2 version has blood - believe me, when you smear some poor SOB with an autoshotgun from about 10 feet, it's got blood!DKB - Just reduce the graphics to PS2-calibre (640x480, textures small enough to fit in the 4MB VRAM) and I'm sure your system will be over 30. i have a tnt2 beleive me it WONT!------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Oct. 15 2001,20:39
i'm saving my money for a leadtek gforce 2 pro (read trying to scam the loan office for more money).i would get a gforce mx but i want my card to last a few months more before the games become unplayable. i.e i want to play giants: citizen kabuto at max rez full detail and still get a good framerate ------------------ Posted by The_Stomper on Oct. 16 2001,05:35
Well, that's the problem - you're using a TNT2. A geForce2 MX200 costs ื USD - why the hell are you still using a TNT2?

Check out the Gainward GeForce2 Pro/GTX -- it is rock stable when you o/c it, and its 4.5 ns RAM gives it performance that rivals the GeForce 2 Ultra. Plus, it's 贡 at < NewEgg.com >As soon as I get the $$$, I'm there baby. Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Oct. 17 2001,20:42
