My XP Pro disc arrived today. All I have to say is this -w00t. I didn't think it was possible - but a Microsoft OS r0x0rs. It found ALL my hardware, and try as I can, I can't crash the bastard. Not only that, but with the Detonator 21.81's, my 3DMark2001 score went up 150 points. And as far as everyone bitching about the new UI look/feel/slowness - bullshit. It's plenty fast, works great, and IMO isn't bad looking. XP 0wnz j00. XP 0wnz j00 and j00r m0th3rz. Hell, XP 0wnz j00r wh0l3 f4m1ly. I don't know if all this will apply to XP Home - but at least some of the 0wnage should filter its way down. Posted by CatKnight on Sep. 24 2001,15:30
rofl that was my first reaction too. give it about a week, and you'll be crawling back to 2000 just like i was. once you install a few programs it lags and crashes all the fucking time.

CK - what version of XP were you running? I'm dualbooting 2K/XP right now myself - I plan to add Linux to the mix soon.

i will never ever go back to 2k. it seems so shallow and empty and slow and unstable comared to XP. everybody has different experiences with xp, but mine have been truly great. it never crashed on me, it only froze twice or so for a short period of time in like that last 5 months of me using itdefinately beats 2k that in less then 2 months crashed on me so many times i lost count Posted by miNus on Sep. 24 2001,20:52
I take it you have Corporate?I can just IMAGINE how much Home would suck... *A father teaching his kids the computer* "Call Uncle Bill at Microsoft?" "Good job, that's right." Posted by CatKnight on Sep. 24 2001,23:27
i was running corporate build 2600. as i said, it may seem fast and stable at first, as it did with me, but after you install a lot of programs it will get all fucked up and you will be like "WHY THE FUCK DID I INSTALL THIS CRAP!!"

Yes, I have Corporate. I'm hoping I'll get my Advanced Server disc soon. 0wnage in its purest form.CK - from what I've heard, XP has been nicer in general than 2K to most. Plus, dualbooting is actually good with it. No mucking with boot.ini - you can do it all through a UI. I think I may end up going straight XP/Linux once I get XP 3600. I DON'T NEED THE VIVO DECODERS!" I'm having minimal problems with it, and it's making some stuff awfully nice. The only bugs I'm having (and they're reproduceable) are a choosing desktop picture bug (dialog closing when selecting a jpeg) and when CS1.3 switches (due to AIM or whatever), and I switch back in, leaving the program normally kills Windows. Don't know what to make of that one. Posted by The_Stomper on Sep. 25 2001,13:20

Hey, i've got a big ask here - I was just wondering if anyone would be able to post me out a copy of WinXP Corporate on CD. Keep in mind I live in New Zealand, but I would pay for the CD, postage etc. I've tried, but just can't get my hands on it over here. If anyone would be willing could you just post back or icq me, my numbers 37570007. Also if I was to get XP, how would i go about installing it on my current setup. I've got 3 partitions, Win98SE on one and Win2k Professional on the other. Am i able to delete Win98 and just install WinXP to that partition and dual boot between XP and 2k or would i have to reformat? Cheers |
