I've been hearing alot about Duron's, but not alot about it over here in Australia.Pro's? Con's? Whats the difference between a Duron, and Intel's other processors? Posted by DuSTman on Dec. 18 2000,20:23
That post implies that you think the duron is an intel CPU. It's an AMD. It's the budget model, AFAIK they only manufacture durons up to 850MHz. Good price/performance ratio. Not quite as fast clock for clock as an athlon, but not far off. socket A, so uses the same motherboards as modern athlons... Durons are almost identical to the new AMD Athlon Thunderbird, but the main difference is that Durons have 64k L2 Cache and the Thundbirds have 256k.It makes a marginal speed difference depending on the kind of computing you're doing. You can read all you'll ever want to know about it: < http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1314 > For the price/performance ratio, you CANNOT beat the Duron. Plus, 75\% of them overclock to 900+mhz. So for โ US, you can have a 900mhz cpu. not bad. ------------------ Posted by Neophyre on Dec. 18 2000,23:20
