Forum: The Classroom Topic: Treatment of Newbies started by: RenegadeSnark Posted by RenegadeSnark on Jul. 18 2001,19:06
For starters, examine the "uber god" status under my name. It enables me to express my opinion, to the extend that cr0bar is not around to hear it. Anyway, I understand that some of the newcommers around here deserved the shafting they received, but methinks you are giving the shaft unfairly to others. I wouldn't care, but it's that crap that spoils the forums somewhat to the point that they cross over the line from "nice community" to "Kyle's HardOCP". To put this all in perspective, I read these forums, not Kyle's. Just a thought though. ------------------ Founder < http://tucb.com/ >

If newbies can't handle the Trial of the Flames, I say fuck 'em. We've all been thru it.

< http://www.detonate.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001171.html > you are right, the n00bs need to pass the test. we can't have just anyone post here, they must be able to take a punch. When they come here they are lumps of cookie dough (mmmm cookie dough...), after a few flames they are carved of wood. Posted by DeadAnztac on Jul. 19 2001,00:58
I have to agree with Snark here really. I mean I read the KeenSpot forums for a while, and.. well, it sucked. 90\% of the time was spent flaming newbies. It was just dumb. It was as if they had just run out of things to say (well I guess that's possible). Anywho... just thought I'de voice with the side of empathy.
Posted by Spydir on Jul. 19 2001,01:20
Yeah... Anztec and Renegade got my idea on the whole thing.Everyone takes things to seriously. I mean, after a while, we learn how someone "expresses" themself, and what kinds of things they say are jokes, serious, and other stuff and ways to tell which are jokes, etc, etc... So, when l33t says something about slate (for example), slate can tell l33t's joking. I think you guys just get to much sand in your vagina when a newbie comes in because you can't tell the difference between a joke and a flame, or if a flame is even a flame... ------------------ Posted by Pickle Therapy Lady on Jul. 19 2001,01:58

Depends on how "tasty" the afore-mentioned "cookie dough" is and if she [she because "he" would just be a little nasty for me so I'm leaving it on a female noob standard for this theory] is "yummy" enough, the also mentioned "wood" is SURE to be near to come. *lame and tame but still with a dirtyminded interpretation...I'm doomed*
quote: I agree with this a bit also. I can see a little flaming for the first timers but sometimes there is a need to exute some control. I like that about this forum. People here seem to be decent enough to spank a little ass but not beat the poor donkey to death. I'm not complaining about any smartass comments I've gotten because most were valid...however, I see no point in pussing out and backing into a corner either. It's more fun to throw back a little shit to the giver (in moderation of course). Posted by Dysorderia on Jul. 19 2001,02:17

Anyone who can make jokes about dicks in an orifice is fine with meOn another note I can remember being flamed out a few times, it helped me realize the even here on detnet people aren’t tolerant of dyslexic people and the poor spelling that goes along with that. :P, so I learned to spell check what I am typing, hopefully the “newbies” will learn lessons that will help them fit in more. Flaming out newbies right away doesn't seem fair you have to wait until they think there cool and them hit them with flamage. ------------------ Posted by CowboyNeal on Jul. 19 2001,14:57

I miss the land of cheese We don't flame people for being new. We flame people for acting like they're the most popular person in the room just because they've recently entered it. It's like seeing freshmen in high school. It's not because they're new that you hate them, it's that they run around like idiots with pacifiers in their mouths and talk shit to seniors like they own the place. People generally chill out over time. Posted by incubus on Jul. 19 2001,18:08

So I asked some of my other female friends online, and it seems they, too, get sand in their vagina when they visit the beach. Also, the random person I talked to masturbates with soap. You have too much time on your hands...I've been saying for quote a while now that this whole newB shit has got to stop. Alright, some people are just dipshits, and they do deserve the flamage they get. But, I think it wrong to immediately assume that ALL newBs are 12-year-old pussies. We shouldn't just come out with all guns firing. As for people like DngrMouse, personally, I think he's an idiot. But I'm still willing to listen to his comments and opinions without predujice. NewBs always say something stupid, I did it with < 'What's Wrong with Canada?' >. However, I can see the point of view of people like damien. We HAVE all been trough the flames. All of us, at one point or another, have been flamed - but most of the time it was with reason... Posted by Vulu on Jul. 20 2001,18:43

< my first post > was obvious flamebait - and I marched on in and acted like I owned the place - so I can't hold that against n00bies.What I CAN hold against n00bies is : - BEING A COMPLETE NOVICE IN THE ONLINE WORLD AND ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT EVEN THOUGH EVERYONE CAN SEE HOW STUPID YOU ARE BECAUSE YOU CANT FIND CAPS LOCK - Being an idiot in general. Especially if you're a pompous idiot. Arrogance is reserved for people who either KNOW their shit, or are so damn funny that they have every right to know they're good. - Getting your feelings hurt because some person YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW flamed you, and expecting us to care. - Flaming a l33t hax0r who has, by virtue of his or her many noble posts, risen above the flames (i.e. Wolfguard).

One more thing, Iceman: the vast majority of military pilots enter the military in college, as part of an Academy or ROTC program. The fact that you’re not in the military, yet still “deciding” between aviation and sharp shooting, is fucking laughable. You’ve seen too many movies, and have absolutely no future in either profession.

You know, I'm more curious as to where the hell that statement came from. Grunt - did you just cover your eyes and click on a thread??? Because that was an incredibly random and...well...sad post. Sounds to me like you aren't exactly "cut out" for the military from the impression that you give so far.
