ok so i'm planing on spending my loan this term on some relativly good decks and shit. i'm mostly gonna be using them for mixing as oposed to scratchin but i will fit a little of that in as well. just would like to know the brands of some mid range quality / price gear that i will need. ( i know technics are the best i wouldnt be asking this question if i had the money to buy them). i will most likely go looking for second hand stuff. any advice will be appreciated

it might not be the specific type you're looking for, but Gemini makes the XL500-II, both decks and a shitty mixer runs you about 辎.00.. or around thereabouts... fairly good torque, but they're direct drives which makes up for much of their other problems...

I heard Geminis suck...a friend of mine has some good mid-quality stuff, he reads this board sometimes...i'll tell him to come take a look.

fuck me, everyones a DJ these days.

its like every time I go out in a car, one pulls up with loud hip hop and black windows. seems everyones a gangsta, too.

sigh

not hip hop i will be doing mostly progressive/ambient trance, hardcore, baleric stuff, and a touch of amshterdamme

it is my mission in life to kill off garage and progressive house and bring back the values of good music

edit: oh i forgot i might do DnB

forget all the ambient trance and other bullshit, and stick to the DnB.
Goldie ownz you!

My friend mixes DnB and I can honestly say that it is cooler then all the trance...stuff out there (even cool folks like paul oakenfold).

at this point i will pimp a song that he made and put on mp3.com, < if you have good bandwith try listening to it >
edit: mp3.com won't let me link properly, try thepinch > daisy ... or don't

dnb is my fav. i'll have to post some of my tracks sometime. kinda in the vein of virus, hive, tech itch...with a bit of ltj and amon tobin influence. i don't dj though.

new album i'm working on:

i haven't been working on it as much as i should. then again, there is a good reason:

good to know there's other jungle fans here.

listening to 'daisy' now - great song. i'm a big fan of the spacey, ethereal stuff. is that standup bass live or a sample?

where are you guys from, btw?

Actually that whole song was made using a 1994ish version of impulse tracker and a >100 Mhz Compaq, so it is all bad samples.

You should diffidently post some of your songs; I know that I would diffidently be interested in hearing them.

And I am from southwestern Colorado. Durango-ish.

I'm a DJ, and personally, I think the best bet is technics. I say this because I have both a technic turntable and a gemini turntable. The technic would have run me about 100 bucks more, but the quality is well worth it. I would highly suggest getting your shit from < www.turntablelab.com > (I have an internship there), they're real honest people who won't fuck you for extra money.

well i'm probably not gonna get technics cos A: i cant afford them
B: my m8 has them and he says that he never would appreciate them as much had he not started out on some shit decks

ive been looking at the stanton str8-80's they are direct drive and seem to have some torque behind them. you can get a brand new pair with stanton 520 (i belive) needles for 450+30s/h on ebay so thats 躀 total. saves up some cash for a nice mixer, i been trying to decide on a mixer for awhile now, i also want to spin jungle/D&B music but im not sure what options i really need to look for, any sugestions since we are on the topic?

I'm tellin you guys, < www.turntablelab.com > has everything you need. I know for a fact that we got the str8-80s/craze cartdriges, and you can also get crazy package deals. I'll post our two "budget" packs

STANTON
BUDGET PACKAGE 1

踸.00

Stanton SK5 mixer
2 Stanton STR-8 50 Turntables
2 Stanton 500al-2 cartridges
2 Stanton slipmats
FREE Hosa 6ft. RCA cables.

STANTON
BUDGET PACKAGE 2

軝.00

Stanton SK6 mixer
2 Stanton STR-8 60 Turntables
2 Stanon 500al-2 cartridges
2 Stanton slipmats
FREE Hosa 6ft. RCA cables.

Those deals give you everything you need (apart from records and a PA) to start DJing. Remember, this shit is brand new, they're not 2 year old decks that some shady 40 year old used in smoky bars to spin oldies.

shit thats a fucking good deal.

this is very, very important: paul oakenfold is NOT cool. he is wiggedy-wiggedy wack. he is wacker than Shaka Khan. he's wacker than Charlotte fucking Church for fuck's sake. pls don't be conned into buying third hand recycled loops from some overweight, corporate cock-sucking, Big Brother theme music-writing, cum jockey, just because US record co's are hot for 'successful' British dance acts. he sucks, OK. you guys have got better shit coming out of San Francisco right now than Oakie has put out in ten yrs. there is really good shit over here (Swag, Layo + Bushwacka, Fat Coda) so pls don't buy our crap...they'll only make more of it you know.

2 numark TT 1510 belt drive turntables and gemini PMX 100 mixer. bout £180 o.n.o should i go for that.? i know that direct drive would be much better but like i said i mainly want to do mixing. is the mixer any good .and i should be able to scam them for at least £150.

is this worth investigating further? to be honest i cant afford much more than this...well i could push £300 if i increased my overdraft. and if i can scam the loan office mabye an extra £200 or so but thats mpushing it. just basically wanted to know the info on the setup of this lot
