Hey, peoples. A few of you know that I have a band. I don't know how many of you have heard my stuff, but what did you think? You can find all my MP3s at: < www.personguy.com/poornotation.html > Probably the best ones to download are Living Life Alive (Live), I SAID SO (The -dance- Mix), and Gruffle Mish. /feels stupid for making this LOOK like a promo, but in reality just needs creative feedback ------------------ Posted by marc c on Sep. 05 2000,01:08
I just listened to Living Life Alive, and thought it was pretty good. At least, it sounded just as good as other Moby songs, IMO. I may try some others, but I definatly won't keep them in my collection... the sound quality is too low! Why not release the songs (or at least some of them) at 192kbs?------------------ Posted by SimplyModest on Sep. 05 2000,01:40
ill tell you what... that server you're on is awesome... may i ask where it is ? cause i got like 294k/sec from it .. (and thats pretty damn good from anywhere off NCSU campus.)
Posted by aventari on Sep. 05 2000,02:25
I noticed that too!im jealous heh heh I got like 250k/sec as well, pretty sweet------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Sep. 05 2000,03:02
Yah, I said right on there that I used the Moby song maker thingy! The reason that the sound quality is so low is because I only have 50MB to fit all my songs + a ton of other stuff. And YAH!!! PowWeb RULES! They are SO cool! Whenever I ask how to set up something, they don't give me instructions... they just do it FOR ME FOR FREE!! The took care of all the hard annoying stuff. < www.powweb.com > ------------------ Posted by aventari on Sep. 05 2000,05:59
Living Life Alive sounds just like that Moby music maker thing in Flash that cr0 posted a month or so ago. I played with that thing for about 1.5 hours ..Gruffle mish was okay, a bit long and repetitive for me, Living Life Alive I will keep, i said so dance mix was okay, and i liked howandwhy, 'specially the begining! ------------------ Posted by Happyfish on Sep. 05 2000,09:47
That "I said so' track is cute.If you want an easy way to get lotsa samples (assuming you have some SNES roms) get Snessor - It rips samples from ROMS. Just a thought. I think there's a similar proggy for N64 carts as well. Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Sep. 06 2000,02:20
"Living Life Alive" was kind of basic, but good... if you're looking to make dance music you're on the right track. To be truly amazed with what you can do, try this experiment : stuff your brain with all the u-Ziq & Aphex Twin that you can. Then try to make something in that genre, and write a ton of hooks w/o samples... even if mostly want to use samples, it will improve your technique because those guys are amazing at *constructing* songs rather than just letting a single hook define the whole track. Well, it worked for me... I can't say my stuff is amazing but it has definately improved If you can find the Kid Spatula album "Full Sunken Breaks," listen to the first track "Dirtwah"... also track for on the Gak CD (or grab Gak 4 from Napster... might have to search on Aphex Twin) for two of the most amazing techno trax ever... Posted by PersonGuy on Sep. 06 2000,23:19
Cool, thanks for the tip! u-Ziq and Aphlex Twin are some of my all time favorite artist. Your right, they definately are composers at heart. Unfortunately they're both work of a geniouses, and I don't think I could ever match their musical talent. Also, I'm trying to be ME more than anything else, and I'd feel weird trying to mimic a particular song or style. AND most of my music is driven by rythm, not MUSIC.But, again, your are right that my songs would be much better driven if they weren't built around specific samples. Anyway, in a song I'm working on (Bongs Away) it's MUCH more complex, and MUCH better built that anything I've done before, so watch for it... ------------------ Posted by caseman984 on Sep. 09 2000,14:05
Haha, very kewl man..music is very good..sounds like a lot of work. Hehe, I also like the Loveline tracks, cuz I remeber listengin to them keep it up.. as soon as I get some money I'm gonna buy your CD! (yes I AM that poor) also..very nice to see Paul Oakenfold on your list of influences. He Rules!!------------------ ü§îñg |³³t§þËåk Ðö˧ ñöt måkË ¥öü å Hå×0®! Hey, cr0, look at me saving your precious bandwidth! Why start a new thread for every new song, right!? Anyway, everybody check out < Crazy Voodoo Boogie-oogie-oogie > and let me know what you think! Thanks! The critiquing always helps a lot! ------------------ Posted by fatbitch on Nov. 13 2000,04:41
it is a lot of work caseman, but its not boring at all, and its VERY fulfilling. you'd also think that it would get boring listening to your track OVER and OVER trying to get it just perfect, but that also is not boring :)check out some of my stuff :) its different to pg's, but still good, obviously :) just click the link in my sig :) ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. Posted by PersonGuy on Nov. 13 2000,20:13
That's pretty good, fatbitch. Where do you get your Industral Metal samples?------------------ Posted by whiskey@throttle on Nov. 13 2000,20:35
Check out Droid's debut album, NYC DNB.Really good live, east coast drumnbass. It's a double CD, and disc 2 is a vault of loops, samples, and remix-able material. They also give you total permission to manipulate, remix, and obliterate all their stuff in any way (of course, if you go commercial, they want credit, etc) Also, has anyone heard Dieselboy's 6ixth Session? That shit is ILL! Wicked drumnbass, man. He is by far the leading dj/producer on the main scene... I'll have to post some of my tracks sometime (trip hop, electrofunk) and my new project - live drumnbass, first in the west coast. Anyone around LA should check us out. Funk and jazz roots with quick, wicked breaks...can't be beat.
Posted by PersonGuy on Nov. 13 2000,22:56
I'll, check it out... I LOVE electrofunk. Hehe... anyone use Groovemaker? I tried the demo, and I MUST have it!!!!!!! ------------------ Posted by reman on Nov. 14 2000,01:03
person_guy you always seem to bo on these boards when I am...anyways the point of my post. have a look at sharehouse.nbci.com to store your songs, you get 500mb worth of storage and according to most people at DPPH@somethingawful.com (and myself, since I visit there as well) almost everyone sucks off there at high speeds, I live in australia and I regularly d/l pr0n movies at over 150kb/s which ain't bad for free 500mb's. the only drawback (i think) is that you need to register to get access.reman ------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Nov. 14 2000,03:37
I wonder if they allow MP3s? The last one I was on, changed their Legal Agreement, didn't tell me, and deleted my files without telling me! That's why I got the dot com.------------------ Posted by fatbitch on Nov. 14 2000,17:28
thanks personguy they are all mine, the guitars, drums etc are all done by me, except the non-guitar songs are all done in cakewalk. midi forever baby (of course, without a good wavetable like yamaha's midi sounds crap) which ones did u like especially? you should think about putting some of your stuff on mp3.com, its free, very easy, and you get a lot mroe exposeure than you would expect (well, i get more than i expected!!) and if u did we could do some song swapping to give each other more hits to climb the charts better also if u get popular enough you can start making some serious money, every month they distribute ũM US amongst the artists depending on how many listens/downloads they get. also you can put your stuff on cd for ppl to buy, and you get 50\% of the saale of the cd, and they do all the burning/posting etc for you, they handle everything, its great!! check out < www.mp3.com/303infinity, > this one guy has made 贶,000 US just from being on mp3.com! he makes like 躔 a day or something, just from making music, and i'm sure he'd get money from other similar sites. makes me so jealous ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. What program do you guys use?? I would like to dick around with that stuff in my free time but I don’t have anything but impulse tracker; and, quite frankly, I can’t use that bastard.Hmmmmm…everybody else has posted music so I feel obligated... I have very little talent in the area, but these are diffidently worth a listen. This message has been edited by Blain on November 14, 2000 at 11:15 PM Posted by Blain on Nov. 15 2000,01:38
Hell, I just did this and I still don’t know how it happenedThis message has been edited by Blain on November 14, 2000 at 08:40 PM Posted by PersonGuy on Nov. 15 2000,03:45
I use ACID 2.0 for a few of my loops.I use ReadPlease for the computer generated voices. I use HammerHead for all the percusion. I use SimSynth 2.0 for most of the music. I use Analog X's Scratch for turntables. I use a few other things like Voicecoder, Sayit, Windchimes, and Soundplant. I use CoolEdit 2000 for mixing and producing. ------------------ Posted by fatbitch on Nov. 15 2000,08:23
shit man, that would get complex!these days i use modplug tracker for tracking (very easy blain, check it out) and cool edit for all wave editing, including guitar/bass recording. and i used to use cakewalk for my midi based songs oh yeah, i use stomper (heh heh) to create some bass beats and stuff. its a visual basic prog but is very good at what it does Posted by fatbitch on Nov. 15 2000,08:26
oh yeah blain, if u want to get stated in tracking, a great place is with the UT music, just open the .umx files in modplug tracker and volia, you can edit the unreal tourney music they are great for seeing how it is all done, plus good for ripping some good samples bear in mind though they are VERY complex songs, and i cant keep up with most of the effects and mixing they do in them... they are insane songwriters, and dont get too disheartened if u cant make head or tail of some of the tracks anyway, give it a go. its fun to mess around with music that you know ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. Posted by Blain on Nov. 15 2000,23:49
thanks guys, i just downloaded modplug. it's a lot like screamtracker so i recognize a little bit of it, nevertheless, it's going to take a lot of free time to make anything tolerable to the human ear ------------------ Posted by fatbitch on Nov. 17 2000,23:37
haha i doubt it, its not hard to make good sounding music when u make something u should put it on the net somewhere so we can download it, i'd like to hear what you come up with. have you had a look at the UT songs? their pretty interesting ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. Posted by whiskey@throttle on Nov. 18 2000,06:01
ah, cakewalk's wack.go for acid, and fruity loops (fruity loops is the shit..now it side-scrolls like acid, imports wav samples, plus it has a built-in 808, all the filters you can stand, and a tool to make your own intruments.) Posted by fatbitch on Nov. 19 2000,09:10
they are totally diff progs... cakewalk is for using inbuilt midi and the others are for using external samples. duh ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. Posted by PersonGuy on Nov. 20 2000,05:35
Yeah! A new release! < Snowball Fight > is 'ok'. I don't particualarly like the style, but mabey somebody else will listen to it and proclaim it genious! I guess I got a little carried away in letting the music lead me, instead of leading the music. This song also features the most complex percussion arrangement yet! 2 hi-hats, 2 crash, 2 splash, 6 bass drums, 6 snare drums, and 4 other little things. Conseqently I learned that sometimes less is more. ------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Apr. 29 2001,03:10
My first release in 5 months and 2 weeks!!! Mostly because I've been working on 5 songs at once (2 of them merged into this song, and 2 merged into on of the FBaxe songs). This one will definately be released on LUDE CONDUCTor once I have it album mixed...Also wanted to let everybody know that I'm ALMOST done with those fatbitch songs... I've just go to record the lyrics and add some finishing touches. ANYWAZE... IMO, this is my BEST track yet!! So let me know what you think! < www.personguy.com/poornotation/files/Pliaedes.mp3 > (note: thanks kixz0r2 for the title! ) ------------------ Posted by kixzor2 on Apr. 29 2001,09:52
Your most welcome, good name for a good song
Posted by PersonGuy on Apr. 29 2001,14:14
There's not 'zero' in your name!? Hrm... first time I've noticed that...------------------ Posted by DeadAnztac on Apr. 29 2001,15:56
very... odd song man, good job actually. I'm curious though, what kind of equipment do you use to make this music?
Posted by SLATE on Apr. 29 2001,16:03

Sonicfoundry (makers of ACID) must have a TON, but they might only work with THEIR programs... < www.fruityloops.com > probably sells some archives or at least has a link to where you can. ------------------ Posted by Spydir on Apr. 30 2001,05:51
I'm really getting into producing music (mostly of a techno-ish/old school hiphop/horrorcore sound), and I'm using Music Maker 5 Deluxe, and I got some samples from Hip Hop eJay (the actual program is alright, but I prefer MM5D). Where can I find, basicly, a whole freaking lot of samples on the net? Also, think some small CD shops might have cd collections of samples and stuff?------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jul. 20 2001,11:16
Hey... it's been a while especially with my HUGE HUGE delays on My Bung-hole (which for the first time I've slightly downgraded... couple more months, sorry).Anywaze... here's what I've been up to! If you've been listening to Love Line lately.. this is a song based on the infamous PanPan! If not... it'll still be a little bit funny. Anyway, I'm going to send this to Engeneer Anderson in hopes of my first radio premere! If someone wants to help me with the artwork, I want a picture of Ping & Pong from the Brady Bunch Cartoon juggling knives or something... ENJOY! ------------------ This message has been edited by PersonGuy on July 21, 2001 at 08:02 AM Posted by jiggyfresh on Jul. 21 2001,02:58
