Well I can see that this will just muddy up the picture thread, so I decided I'd try and head it off before it got outta hand and keep things fairly on topic. So ... the question is, how old you be? I'll start, I'm 19, you? ------------------ < www.slapmahfro.net > ya know ya wanna slap it ...

Well, all depends on how you mean, if you mean mentally then I think I probably surpass the combined ages of everyone on DetNet.. (not kidding)As for physical age, then I'm afraid I'm going to have to hold out on that one, I dont want to put myself to shame ------------------ When darkness calls and the pain and suffering begin again, you can guarantee that I shall be the instigator. - Kevin "Kayy" Beadle, The Proprietor and Innovator of Kayyos-Vx WebDesigns.

I was thinking of asking people their ages, but I thought pictures was enough. I'm 19, once I was 18, but things change. But age really doesn't matter online. That's not because of something like, "When you're online true mentality comes out" well it could be, but I think it's more like, "When you're online you find more opperotunities to say smart sounding things that makes you sound older" is what I think.------------------ Like a flash I'm out- -Proteun

No, anztac.. I dodn't mean it in an unpleasant way..You say people won't take you as seriously if you tell us your age.. there seem to have been a couple of 17 year olds.. So you would have to be significantly younger than that... Let's say that that puts a 15 year cap on my estimation of your age, and as you seemed so enthusiastic in the pr0n thread, i'd say you're probably between 9 and 15. true?

OSU. I'm hoping to start in the winter. My dad was a chair there so I get a good discount. So that's pretty undisputed. I'm going to take like all the classes I am going to miss in high school (cause I don't want to sit through annoying classes with assholes who spend a whole period trying to figure out the simple concept...then there's the students =8^P ) like advanced algebra (I was half way through this when I got pissed and went homeschooling), FST, Calc., English equivalents, also comp. sci. and others. Note not all in one quarter, but that's a couple of the classes I'll be taking. I might be taking a couple classes (maybe 1 or 2) at CCAD for art. Right now I think that I have 4 major choices for career: Programmer (sit in tiny cubical and live a life with no grip on reality and underestimated genius); UNIX SA (sit in large cubical and live a life of breakdowns and slightly less totally underestimated genius) ; Graphics design (like ILM or web design) ; start my own business ; or maybe just a combination of all four.------------------ ~Anztac - The guy who had the really long sig (formerly Kriegman) "I am easily driven into a flying rage by blithering idiots" -cr0bar [The god of this domain]

The way i code things:Think of a way of doing it Refine to use more linked lists Repeat above step until runnable solution occurs. I just love linked lists!
Posted by Sithiee on Jun. 09 2000,18:59
i hate planning. the true way to code, is to do top down design, which is half planning, because you plan while your coding, and you also get straight into the code, so its easier to see what wont work. my VB teacher says that all(as in there are no exceptions) college proffessors require flow charts. i refuse to believe it. thats among the stupidest things ive ever heard. the best way to do something of course, is to hire an intelligent programmer to write the code, and then hire a obessive compulsive programmer to super-optimize the code. you spend more, but in the end its a better product. and linked lists are nice, but doubly linked circular lists are far superior.
Posted by Kolben on Jun. 09 2000,19:40
Flowcharts suck unless you draw them yourself. They get way to big way too fast. And if you try to present them to other people they'd most likely not understand a thing. But in getting an overview of stuff they're handy.
Posted by Nero on Jun. 09 2000,19:58
nah anztac, i only meant that my friends didn't know shit about computers. one is a writer as in novels/stories NOT code and the other is a journalism (non-technology) and debate fuckup. she specifically is a fuckup, not every individual debate kid.
Posted by eng_man on Jun. 09 2000,20:15
Well so far none of my college profs. have required flowcharts (thank goodness). But I remember in BASIC class in HS we _had_ to make flowcharts. I'm like, WTF? for BASIC? They were completely worthless. I could get the working code to a problem faster than I could draw the damn flowchart. Whata crock.------------------ < www.slapmahfro.net > ya know ya wanna slap it ...
Posted by renegade on Jun. 09 2000,21:59
my c++ teacher wanted us to do structure charts, i hated those, because they served no purpose that could not be acheived by commenting your code...but i knew more c++ than she did so it didnt matter all that much...

anztac .. you can make up the educational equivalent of high school with your custom college classes, but the phrase "cause I don't want to sit through annoying classes with assholes who spend a whole period trying to figure out the simple concept" is not a good enough reason to skip high school. Its amazing you predict your futures as being so narrow. Ever think of working for the army? being an artist/musician? or a nomad, wandering the forests and mountains of foreign countries? auto mechanic? I don't recommend a future of computing. Life, intelligence and technology don't always have to go hand in hand. I was smart like you once, and at your age too. I skipped out on high school because I really was too smart for my own good. I was so smart I even figured out how to fool my parents into thinking I had attended high school for one and a half years, when in actuality I was home every day on my computer. (they found me out eventually, only because I was young) I didn't get the necessary attention, like you are getting, for my learning abilites. I was capable of such college matters in the sixth grade. Yet it doesn't matter whether you go to college or home schooling, you just can't replace high school. There's things you can't learn anywhere else. Those unsaid things .. social cues, ideas, friends and interaction with folks your own age.. Yes I know age doesn't matter on the internet (thats why we have this post right?) but life isn't your computer. And HS today is worse than it was yesterday, but life ain't a fuckin walk in the park. What doesn't kill you will make you stronger. Sorry that I sound like /am being an asshole but the point I'm trying to make is I threw away four years of my life I'll never get back, so don't fuck things up like I did. GO TO HIGH SCHOOL! If you're as smart as you say you are, you won't get any stupider by waiting.

Although I didn't skip HS (I'm not smart enough, and/or my parents aren't that driving) I do enjoy an above average intelligence and all the shit that goes with it.. (GATE, AP/honors classes, etc etc)I must agree with what k00gs just said. There's a lot more to school then just the books and classes. I spend the entire 4 years shunning HS and escaping into the online world of BBS's and games, which was GREAT for learning computing and skills for my career, BUT as social creatures we definately need the interaction and experience that you can only get in a place like school. Dont get me wrong, I had plenty of friends and stuff in HS, but I never did ANYthing extra curricular, and looked down on most anyone not as smart as I. I wish I would've participated in things more, and the big one, MADE MORE FRIENDS. it's easy, and if theres one universal truth I've found it's: NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, WHO YOU KNOW. Meet and be nice to as many people as you can, you never know where it can get you. I'm not saying do this in a manipulative way either, because it's a 2 way street, but there's more to life than computers and stuff. I've been a hardcore computer nerd since 1st grade, and it's gotten me a LOT, but i've also had to give up a lot. I dont have the greatest social skills, and my wrists are already fux0red beyond belief (i'm only 22..) *gets off soapbox* GL to all ------------------ aventari "this web page best viewed using a monitor.."
