Take a look at that link. It converts a GeForce to a Quadro by moving 2 resistors! I run a Geforce2MX so the difference would be amazing.

Has anyone else got experience of this mod?

Should I get the soldering iron out?

The difference would be less than amazing. Game performance would not increase, the features in the Quadro are for high end 3D modelling applications.

According to the article, the difference wouldnt be very much in gaming applications except in the case of the gf2mx, because of the difference in core speeds and some other stuff. Read it first!

Yeah, games tend to eat more fill rate, high end jobs more use of polygonan detail, a professional card is not necessarily any better for gaming use than a geforce...

Quoting your article:

Talking about cards that are being used for gaming, there won’t be any major differences.

the question is does it inhibit any of the gaming attributes?

Quoting the REST of that sentence:

Talking about cards that are being used for gaming, there won’t be any major differences. Oh, there is one occurence I can tell you about, and that’s when converting GeForce 2 MX into Quadro 2 MXR. Users, who do so, will experience great changes in velocities of 3D gaming. This is on the basis of changed core speeds, and the achieved speed-changes will only occur when converting into Quadro 2 MXR. In Quake 2 it’s possible to achieve approximately 45\% more fps, than using an unconverted GeForce card (source: ExtremeDK). There won’t be any remarkable differences when convering other GeForce cards.
