Hearme Voice chat rocks!!!< http://www.brewsandcues.com/chat/ > ------------------ Posted by Kayy on Jun. 03 2000,13:58
Hearme sucks, it only takes one person to hold the button while playing music permanently to stop anyone have a conversation, if you want a decent audio chat program, consider Iparty, its been around a long while, and its still IMHO the best one around. Its buffer based, so no matter what you always get your say, has a text area for when you cant talk or whatever, has a few addons (Iparty Extender, IPE-TV) that add ignore functions and so on, the only drawback is that you can only kick or ban people from the room if the person hosting the server is there, and has a decent firewall. It may take a bit more setting up than most audio chat programs, but its still by far the best. < http://www.iparty.f2s.com > One thing that could be a downside, not available at all for Linux/Unix, windows 9x/NT only I'm afraid. I'm sure anyone who comes to detnet must have some sort of irc client. And for people who don't, cr0 could just setup a crapy java client doohickey.I mean, really, who here DOESN'T have an IRC client? ------------------ Posted by Hellraiser on Jun. 03 2000,21:35
Believe it or not, I don't. I just haven't got around to installing it yet since I reformatted last month. Since I kinda gave up on IRC, there's not much point. To many morons to deal with, wasting my time. I stick pretty much to forums now myself. Laugh all you want, I could care less ------------------ Posted by DrunkNigel on Jun. 04 2000,02:29
I don't flame, flaming is stupid.Ive backed away from IRC myself, but think a det net channel would be very cool. ------------------ Posted by Hellraiser on Jun. 04 2000,14:28
Senseless flaming or flames intended to put other people down is not cool. But well-thought-out flames with a touch of humor, and flames intended to put people back in their place are okay. Anyone got a problem with this can take it up with GOD. Or better yet, my LAWYER. ------------------ Posted by jim on Jun. 04 2000,18:42

i dont have an IRc client either actually.i never really got into IRC, it was the first thing i found on the internet before the web was big, and unfortunately it kinda turned me off of the internet even though i was big into BBS's. it's always been pretty lame to me. internet was too expensive then too! ------------------ Posted by kuros- on Jun. 05 2000,10:50
I couldn't get onto IRC, even if I wanted to. My college blocked the ports.
Posted by Proteun on Jun. 05 2000,14:43
right, i tried to get in, but all it did was load up a white page with "Your username must be alphanumeric and all lowercase... I recommend you click 'FLOAT' and I also recommend you check out my site I am the user detdotnet The Streets - A Halflife Mod (opens in new window) SLATE" at the bottom, and nowhere to go, what do I do now? ------------------ Posted by SLATE on Jun. 05 2000,15:13

this is kinda hard to believe that some people that read etnet don't actually have an irc client, as some of the humor in cr0's bastardizations (especially The Matrix) relates to IRC >=)------------------ Posted by Observer on Jun. 06 2000,13:47
Just because some people don't have an IRC client, doesn't mean they can't get the irc jokes in the bastardizations.

I think IRC would be the best route. If you're looking for a somewhat small network I would reccomend mIRCx (partly because I hang there and partly because I know all the server admins, etc..).irc.mircx.com I'll be waiting in #detnet if anyone decides to join me. Posted by porn_dealer on Jun. 06 2000,23:15
Hey SLATE, I don't know, but you could try stomped.com, or something for your Streets mod. I'd host you at < www.modreview.com, > but detnet is hosting me right now, so, that's not within my power to do, but check out Stomped, Gamefan, etc.

I was into IRC, back into my 1st (to half of 2nd) year of uni and man, were those days fun! I remember going to the external labs (couldn't irc from the CS labs unless you telnet out to the external one... bah!) just to get a server off a friend as well as to check our emails... we stayed for a solid 6 hrs! Now, whenever i try to get back into it, it seems (the channels i used to live in) to be filled with hopeless teens who revel in the "freedom" of it all and expressing it by constant swearing and overt sexual innuendos. (no offense meant to the teens here, who, most, are of superior mold :) That was when i turned to MUD. Now that too is waning *sigh* plus, it is difficult to do either (irc/mud) when you dont have access to it at work D'OH! ahhh well... since it is nearly quitting time here, I guess I'll give the chatroom a try tomorrow. Please be nice... I'ts been a while for me... :) Posted by caseman984 on Jun. 07 2000,05:28
what port??------------------ Posted by Nero on Jun. 08 2000,05:05
i don't have irc for the simple reason that i would get my ass kicked if i installed it.this isn't my comp, it's my pop's, and he knows enough to be able to fry my ass if i tried anything. or he could just kick me off (physically, not ban me) this pc. and trust me, a 21" trinitron makes life a lot more fun. but there is hope. i'm building at the end of summer when i have the money saved. fun times... |
