Gotta love nice generic subjects (sue me, I couldn't think up anything snazzy). So we all know that you come to det.net for the eye candy ... but what do you guys (and girls) listen to keep your ears happy? I myself listen to just about anything, yeah I know it's a lame answer, but it's true. I happen to be getting a lot of techno lately. Including but not limited to: Rob Dougan, Roni Size, Photek, Underworld, Meat Beat Manifesto (gotta love the name :) and Amon Tobin. Just kinda curious what the other det.net'ers out there like to jam to. ------------------ Posted by simulacrum on Jun. 01 2000,20:16
I'm into techno/trance music myself. Personally, I prefer stuff like 303 Infinity, Trance Control, The Cynic Project. For mainstream music, pretty much the only stuff I like is Eminem, Manson, NIN, and a few others.

LordBrandon: I thought of doing the same thing, then I realized that it would probably take up ten pages =DIt's always cool to know that people like the same music you do. Trance [] Control kicks serious ass. MMMMMM ... bass I'll be shaking the house now. ------------------ Posted by simulacrum on Jun. 01 2000,21:48
Yeah, I actually bought their CD from MP3.com. It rawks the house at parties.

I like the Techno, but I am pretty much into the mainstream kids, if there is a mainstream of techno. Fat Boy Slim (Better living through Chemistry, You've come along way. . . pretty much sux0rs) Chemical Brothers, and some Juno Reactor. I'm also a mad phat Ska fan. Big on The Hippos, Aquabats, and Reel Big Fish. Then there's the obligatory weird stuff, Frank Zappa and Pizzicato 5. Then the stuff that Sets you apart, I like Glenn Mill, Django Rheinhardt, and Duke Ellington. When I go out with my friends I usually listen to their music, because they can't stand mine.------------------ Posted by Ansible on Jun. 02 2000,18:24
The 553megs of mp3's I downloaded from mp3.com over a 56k suit me fine. Plus some occasional Rammstein.
Posted by Hellraiser on Jun. 02 2000,18:39
Rammstein is good too, have any of you looked up what their lyrics mean? It's some crazy wierd shit.------------------ Posted by SLATE on Jun. 02 2000,18:49
they sure are, hel..here are some lyrics..... translated by a program. so some words aren't recognized.. but you get the point...... -- Engel [Angel] Live in virtue, no desire Just as the clouds have gone to sleep Angels live, they never die Just as the clouds have gone to sleep -- Asche zu Asche [Ashes to ashes] warm body, hot cross, Ashes to Ashes I'll return, in ten days, ashes to ashes
------------------ Posted by eng_man on Jun. 02 2000,19:04
I went to see Rammstein, to bad they got kicked off the stage for wearing ... duct tape and that's it. Really pissed me off they're the main reasons I went to that show. Just to let you know unless you know german you'll never really know the lyrics, most translation programs suck nuts. They get the words right most of the time, but they lose a lot of the meaning. Plus I think Rammstein sounds like shit in english, german sounds so much cooler.------------------ Posted by BM_Ray on Jun. 02 2000,19:16
Slate, that's not the english translation of Engel, it's the english version. One of the versions of the Sehnsucht CD has the Tracks Engel and Du Hast in english at the end (not listed on the CD. Hidden Maybe? If you're looking for some twisted Lyrics, translate Buch Dich sometime. I was quite disturbed after I found out what that song meant. Speil mit mir doesn't sound all to nice, either. Anyway, Rammstein Kicks ass. ------------------ Posted by BM_Ray on Jun. 02 2000,19:21
Oh, and here's my lame ass translation of the chorus of Engel. When the clouds have first gone to sleep That's more of a direct translation, though. Posted by Proteun on Jun. 02 2000,19:45
Rammstein rules. I once knew a couple that went to prom in a tuxedo and a dress made out of only ducttape, they didn't get kicked off. My mom took my Rammstein CD away after the Colombine HS incident, she also made sure that we didn't have any copies of doom laying around. She's afraid my little brother will grow up to be a Nazi-Psycho and shoot at people if he is allowed either of them. Moms, go figure.------------------ Posted by SLATE on Jun. 02 2000,19:56
-- Bück Dich [Bend Down] Bend down I order you Turning your face back from me too I don't need to see it now Bend down A biped who is on all fours Bend down... I've no interest in the rest The biped stuttered a short prayer Bend down... Bend down I order you Bend down... Bend down... ------------------ Posted by SLATE on Jun. 02 2000,20:01
-- Spiel mit mir [Play with me] We share a room and the bed By the bed a big black hole Past my navel in the bush Play a game with me Play with me - A game My brother dear hand in pain Play a game with me Play with me - A game ------------------ Posted by DrunkNigel on Jun. 02 2000,21:09
Rammstein is pretty damned cool.My music tastes seem to be very strange to many people. I love metal, hard rock and the like. I can't get enough of it. I love the beats and rythem of techno. Punk Rock is always fun and I think some rappers are just damned cool >=) Though, I hate the metal/rap shit some bands put out. I like metal, rap, and techno, but I can't stand it when people try to mix it all up. It just doesn't sound right. Bands I listen to: Metallica ------------------ Posted by Hellraiser on Jun. 02 2000,22:06
Yeah, that's Rammstein alright. I think they were all dropped on their heads when they were born, but the music is pretty good. And I agree the German sounds much better, it's a much harsher language than English and a lot is lost in the translation. Oh, well.------------------ Posted by Hellraiser on Jun. 03 2000,05:32
Hive has a few good tracks, although my favorite group of all time is EXTREME. Too bad they broke up in '96.------------------ Posted by eng_man on Jun. 03 2000,09:39
When I said they were wearing duct tape I meant they were only wearing a strip that was a few inches long ... if yah know what I mean That's supposedly why they got kicked off the stage. How they got on, manage to play a few songs only THEN to get kicked off is beyond me. Either way that really really sucked nuts. ------------------ Posted by Teflon on Jun. 03 2000,13:27
Sublime, Aphex Twin, Beastie Boys, a little Fatboy Slim, Our Lady Peace, System of a Down
Posted by Kayy on Jun. 03 2000,14:18
I listen to anything and everything, apart from BackShaft Bandits and Shitney Beers.. and all the other pop "groups" like 'em.Other than that, anything, Beethoven, Metallica, 2pac, Vanessa Mae... etc..etc You know how it goes, I just cant be bothered to list the endless amounts of bands/groups/ppl that I listen to, there isnt enough space ------------------ Posted by simulacrum on Jun. 03 2000,14:42
When I still lived at home, my mom tried to make me get rid of my Marilyn Manson CD's, along with NIN, and others. I told her to try it. Then I threatned that if any of my stuff was missing, she would find a lot more of her shit missing. Ahh, the first step in getting kicked out.

My tastes are pretty eclectic when it comes to music also and I'd just like to congratulate marc c on buying the best album from last year - DSV1.You'll probably like it eng_man, it's got a bit of Radio Babylon in it by Meat Beat Manifesto (I think). Buy it, buy it now. My favourite band's Prodigy but I'm into old-skool hip-hop (lovely hyphens), and even modern hip-hop (none of that Puff Daddy shit) and a tiny bit of house from Daft Punk (they're hip-hop influenced so they're okay). Posted by jrh1406 on Jun. 10 2000,07:13
I like a wide variety of music, but i steer more towards techno and classic rock. Rush is my all time favorite band.

If you like Tool you'll probably like A Perfect Cirle. It's Tool ... but it's not. Speaking of soundtracks, Fight Club and Akira are 2 good ones that come to mind. ------------------ Posted by Nero on Jun. 10 2000,19:19
I don' think i've seen the pumpkins anywhere. you can't help but like zero and bullet with butterfly wings. the zero single is pretty badass with some of the b-sides. I think that my cd player has pearl jam's ten, tchaikovsky's marche slave, and the bloodhound gang's hooray for boobies in it. so i have bits of everything in between with the exception of country.

I think my taste in music is pretty wide. The only things I don't hear is country and jazz. My girlfriend even took me to see an opera and I was amazed. I can hear that too.Soundtracks...Everything John Williams laid his hands on is worth listening to. That guy rules. Than there's the "Batman Returns" (I don't know why I like that, noone else does). And then the uuuuh soooo cool blues guitars in "From Dusk Till Dawn". The Vaughan Bros. rocks (rocked). Other than that, the cd's on my shelf that aren't dusty are: Posted by Rhydant on Jun. 11 2000,00:01

I agree with most everyone here! I do some techno DJ'ing, although I'm not very good at it yet. I also play drums and sing in a Ska/Punk band. Proteun, you put some of the best: hippos, rbf, mad caddies (awesome horns), parka kings, suicide machines, and Radiohead, OLP, Catherine Wheel, Pink Floyd when i'm in a more calm mood.
