well, in the spirit of a hopefully new and good thread, i'll start with a question. (cheap... i know)

I just installed UT 4 linux last night and i got a probleM

the GUI is SLOOOOOOOWWWW!.. such as , move mouse, wait for 2 seconds... it jumps.. it was so slow i didnt dare try running the game. (resolution set low also).

i have a 700athlon 192RAM TNT2 Ultra.

anyone got an suggestions?

how many people here are running linux?

I have UT install on my puter (windoze version) but I lost my UT CD. Which isn't a problem cause I have a patched EXE. But I can't install any of the patches... GRRR

Tell you what, ill send you a copy of the unreal cd.. if you can send me a doom1 or doom2 wad file ? eh ..

actually, does anyone have those wad files laying around somewhere?

i have the doom 1 wad, hell i still have the install disks.

i had a similar problem when i installed it in linux, seems the only thing, win is good for is games

Doom][ wads? Fuck I had a whole CD full of them, I think my friend has it again.. (well it is his)

Doom2 is so much fucking fun to deathmatch in I should grab that CD again.. lost all my wads when I changed computers.

Radeons not out yet?? when does it come out?
I saw a Geforce2 vs Radeon thing and the Geforce kicked it's ass in 16- bit color, but Radeon did FAR better in 32-bit. Seems like a decent card.

I haven't heard anything about it's release yet... I know they have sent out alpha boards to a couple review sites (gamecenter was where I saw it a couple months back).

Also, I'm not sure how well ATI supports non-windows or mac systems.

ATI exclusively manufactures the video systems for macs. All new macs come with an ATi Rage 128. As far as Linux, ATI doesn't write drivers but the do release all the specs of their cards so that drivers can easily be written.

it worked GREAT! like better than anything in my friends computer. hence the reason i bought it.

but it was junk in mine... so i dont think you want to chance it.
i think its still under warranty, but ive had so much crap from 3dfx about my voodoo 2 i dont really want to put up with it. i think id rather just unload it on someone else.

what kind of video card do you have?

so...wait a sec the geforce 2 MX is just as good as the BEST geforce 1 ?

do any of the geforces have good loinux support? cause if not its back to the ole faithful.! (voodoo 3000 - 5500 )

Just a suggestion, but you should check out the ATI Radeon, its beyond anything I have ever seen. 90 fps at 1600x1200 for Half-Life < www.ati.com >

The 5500 falls flat on it's face when put up against the Geforce2. 3dfx has pussied out since the v2.

I guess the TNT2 is an okay card for 51$... but that's probably going to rise a bit. If price is a big concern, suck it up and lay out the 120 for a Geforce2 MX. Performs like a DDR Geforce1 with the hardware features of a gf2.

And nvidia supports every microsoft OS, linux, beOS, and even os/2 (bahahahaha!); though driver updates are released more often for windows systems, because frankly, that's what you should be using for games. ;P

The Radeon also looks like an excellent card, but it's not out yet, and is going to be extremely pricey. And with ATI's track record, I would be hesitant to pick it up immediately upon release.

edit: oops, you're selling the TNT2... hehe. I catch on eventually!
