We need to get a good flatbed scanner for work. It needs to be networkeable (ie, not teathered to a computer somewhere). Is this possible? Does this scanner exist? What would be your recommendation if this exists, or even if it doesn't. We're on corporate dollar here, so don't be too scared of upping the ante.

Hmmm...dunno, not a lot of experience with scanners...anyway, my Astra 1220S works alright, in comparison with some of friends/store ones...and wasn't bad on my wallet either

I would also recommend Astra SCSI scanners. We have one at work, and it is networkable.

One thing I should say is to stay away from parallel-port scanners. Not only are they slow, but also sometimes unreliable. USB scanners are okay, but I would go with SCSI over USB any day for I/O.
