damn, i don't believe noone has ever thought of that
all the big tech site have one (HardOCP, /.) but i'm sure that with all the l33t h4x0rs in this forum we could kick some serious butt

and of course, we'll have Frost and his 4,687,223 KKeys/sec (cf. Blade page 5) with us so we are guaranted of winning the contest
and with the 2,000 bucks the winning team gets, cr0bar will have the cash to buy those extra neat orange rim / thick cotton Tshirt with the det.net logos and stuff on them

For those of us that are RC5 members already probably already have team affiliations. I do.

lizzy, check out < www.distributed.net > it'll explain it all.
but from what i understand, is that these whackos are trying every single possible code for a program or something so they can proove to the goverment that their stuff is inferrior or soemthing.
but hell yeah, im up for this. we can be 'Team l33t Hax0rs!'

After reading this, and having a quick read of the URL posted previously, I still have absolutely no bloody idea what the hell its all about.

If anyone wants to explain it to me in plain english rather than the total and utter garbage that most people tend to speak when talking about such things, then feel free to do so.

Not that I'm against the garbage of course, I use it a lot when dealing with fools that think they know what they are talking about, but in this situation, I have absolutely no clue, and am admitting it, rather than claiming to know.

Anandtech is one of the more enthusiastic and highest rated RC5 teams around. Here is a link from their forum. It's a FAQ on what RC5 is all about.

Now I understand it pretty well, basically, you download a proglet, it then works on stuff while you aint using yer computer.. nice way of looking at it.

Though for me it wouldnt work.

1 - I dont have my machine on when I arent at it doing things.
2 - I dont like helping contribute to some massive project when it is going to be of little or no use at all to me, and I'm not going to get anything out of it in the end.
3 - My machine is never idle for more than a minute, generally while I go answer nature on my other line.

So in conclusion, I wont be of any use, though if I went on holiday and left my pc connected to the net and idling, then my guess is it would get a fair amount done (me having a fairly decent machine).

Ah well, at least I know what its about now, thx sim.

I'd start an RC5 team, but like someone said, I already have a team affiliation and it just eats up CPU cycles as far as I'm concerned.

Team Slashdot will win. We all know it.
