Max Payne should of ben out a helluva long time ago! I remember reading a preview about it like 2 years ago.... man, talk about another Diakatana!BTW, Homeworld: Cataclyism will surely beat the fuck out of it anyways. comes out the 16!

Anyone know of any real phat games comming out soon? Myself i cant wait until Max Payne comes out in 01. Ive read reviews on it and seen screen shots that look phat as hell.

Tribes 2? GaH! i sold the original tribes on ebay this week becuase i couldnt take the shear bad-ness of it. only had it a month too. came with StarSiege, which was a bit better than tribes. come on man! where is the single player?! there has got to be at least something better than the training missions that puts you against bots that dont re-spawn! ------------------

true that, wheres the single player these days? the last game with a good single player that i played was ss2, and that was a year ago. multiplayer truly isnt all its cracked up to be...

That's where Halo comes in. Bungie is all about the single player experience. Fortunately, the game style also will easily lend itself to multiplayer.

did they get bought by MS? i heard somethin about it only being put out on Xbox, and i dont think im gonna get one of those....not because i think its cool to be anti microsoft, but the fact that theyre putting in an HD on the thing, so it will be able to download "updates". the XBox is not the console theyre saying it is. consoles out of the box are the same as every other console untill they stop being made. not counting hd updates, like the mod chip. whos with me? eh, doesnt matter. i think they should make a sequel to syndicate that doesnt suck ass.

Naw, that was resolved a while ago. Halo will be released for the PC. Almost certainly the mac as well.

Sithee, I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to say about the x-box. You don't like it because it's going ot have a HD? I think having a hard drive in a console system is a great idea. They do it in japan, why can't we hadle it here? And the plan was to allow for d/ling demos and mods, and new levels.(as well as patches I would assume)

Patches... ugh. The very nature of previous consoles forced developers (and publishers) to make the game damn near perfect before releasing it, since there could be no patches later on. Now consoles won't even have that.

yeah, vigilante knows what im talking about. go back to your consoles of olde, youll find that not a one suffers from frame rate drops, or ram loss or anything. if you start giving companies the opportunity to fix mistakes after the fact, then they slip up, and figure "hey, we can always fix it later" instead of "if we dont fix it now, no one will buy our game". when i go into the business, im gonna do my best to release the best version of the game at the release, and to not need to release any patches. by putting in an HD microsoft has given themselves a backup, that will allow them to release buggy software, and then make you go download updates and patches to it, while convincing you its really for mods and demos....

I still think a HD is a good idea..X-box will be better than PS2 except for the fact that it will be out like a year later, so it might not do too good.

I've noticed a couple N64 games with serious framerate problems, actually, even with that memory addon. Goldeneye and NFL Blitz most notably.Luckily I was never a fan of the n64. I'm really hoping to be able to avoid buying a console in the next round (which is pretty much reliant on square making some decent PC ports... sigh.)

Just to clear a few things up.Goldeneye was written before the memory expansion pak was introduced, so it can't use it. The game has to be told that there's more RAM available now.
The PS2 (which should be called the PSX2 or something. Aren't there enough things called PS2?) when released in the US will also have a hard drive.
Personally I thought patches for PC games were usually issued to deal with new hardware setups and conflicts that arise from them. The XBox has a standard set of hardware, like a console, so developers know what its limitations are, unlike a PC where the best they can do is list "minimum requirements."

Well, either way, Goldeneye does experience framerate drop. That's unacceptable for a game/machine that can't be upgraded.

observer, you can usually find what exactly a patch is for, they usually list what they change. often times it will say some sort of bug its found, and maybe some minor game play balancing changes. but the fact remains, even with a wide variety of setups, if developers took their time they wouldnt have to release updates and patches, even pc games of old didnt need patches, because they knew they couldnt mass distribute them because most people werent on any sort of hookup.
