This is sort of like the "Whats in your box?" topic. What shit would you most like to add to your box to make it better (ie- a full 1G MHz processor, bigass hard drive, what vid card, intellimouse, 21" inch flat panel monitor, speakers with subwoofer, anything you can think of, etc.)

uhhh, my next upgrade will either be a 7200 rpm ibm harddrive, a 550e, or a geforce 2 MX, i haven't decided yet.

i keep waiting and prices keep coming down for some reason. hehehe

actually, i'm being rewarded for my procrastination-it's not a good type of postitive reinforcement

I can thihk of a lot of stuff I would like to have in my box but you have to be reasonable. The next thing I'm going to get is a 19 inch monitor. Hopefully the 'rents buy it for me to take to college.

Add something to my box? I don't understand... Why would I want to change anything? Mine's Tangerine.

Im sick and tired of my semi-new compaq presario 5441 freezing up on me, and im somewhat dissapointed with the graphics im getting out of Diablo2, although that could well be the fault of blizzard. More likely though i think its that i have some shitty stock graphics card. I want to get a Geforce 2GTS ( i think thats it) but i hear theres a new one comming out, thats better. along with a new vid card i want more memory, the amount of memory left on this thing is terrible. add to that, it didnt have very much memory to begin with. Id like a new monitor, because this little monitor ive got sucks. also im going to go on some sort of shooting spree with a long range-whoopage-device from the top of some building if i dont get rid of this 56k BS and get me a cable hookup. im calling my phone company tommmorow but i doubt they will be able to suply me with service. my house is kind of far out there, but not too far in the boonies. id take cable, or dsl, or idsl, shit ill take whatever i can get over 56k.

I want a couple Neon lights in my case, like I saw awhile back on hardocp >=)

hardware wise, I'd really like some more Ram and a GeForce2 GTS.

Sithiee, when you're running dual CPUs, you don't get twice the performance, you get maybe as much as 1.7 times, but usually more like 1.5. This is especially true in games, since most don't support SMP. Performance will improve because the OS can assign overhead tasks to the other CPU, but it you won't see as much of a performance increase in games as you would in true multithreaded apps. Sorry to burst the ol' bubble. . .

well yes, i know that, but theoretically you should get that. still though theres multitasking. you could theoretically devote one processor to one program, and another processor to something else. so collectivly it is a 3ghz machine, assuming you decide to run lots of stuff at once. my friend has dual 450s, and a cool prog that shows each processors usage in real time. i dont think ive ever seen them in full usage though. but theres also multithreaded programs...multithreading and no T&L is about the same as singlethreaded and T&L in q3a. so it does make a very signifigant difference.

I think I'd like a DVD burner. That would be swell.

actually....you can have it make coffee for you...sorta...theres this device you can buy..i forget the name of it, but i think they sell it at radio shack, it lets you control different appliances on/off states from your comp...you could make it turn on the coffee when the comp turns on...its not 100\% the comp, but it might be better than nothing....unless your into robotics and wanna pull a peewee herman.
Posted by Rol3x on Jul. 22 2000,17:15

Is the ATI radeon out? I always kinda liked ATI and that card is supposed to be kick ass, although lately I'm starting to change my opinion about ATI. I'm certian my vid-cards BIOS is screwed cause DOS apps do not set the vid modes properly, using VESA VBE calls. I finally recieved a response to my email to ATI about it and they told me I'd have to ship them my card because, despite what I've heard the BIOS isn't flashable(I think that's BS). That pissed me off. And my TV capture software is acting up. I might be willing to give them one more chance...maybe, if the card is as good as they claim. Anyone seen any reviews?

Another question for the 133t ppl out there: I have a P III 600 locked at 100 mhz FSB. (meaning 100 mhz RAM). If I upgrade to a 133 FSB chip it only has a 256k cache vs my current 512k cache. As it stands now I can only o/c it to 630 before I have lock-ups which I assume is because of my memory. Should I upgrade to the 133 FSB chip or just buy PC-133 RAM and try to overclock it from there, keeping my 512k cache?

Peewee, definitely peewee. I'm not talking just brewing the coffee, I'm talking from the grounds and filter.

But I wont be Peewee Herman.
