This is partly a rant...partly an observation on how truly pathetic I am.

My @home cable modem went down sometime saturday. It was working when I went to bed at about 8am, not working when I woke up at 7pm. I figured it was a temporary thing, so I left it went out drinking etc, and got home about 5am sunday, and all the little pretty lights were still flashing..
So I phoned tech support, and they gave me some BS about some storm or something. It is now 5am Monday..so that's been almost 35 hours that it's been down that I know about.
So I'm kinda pissed...but...
In my despration I borrowed my brothers motorcycle (mines broken ) and went out at about 1 am looking for 24 hr stores that would possibly have a computer mag with a AOL free trial disk in it! And I found one! I pulled out my 56k and hooked it up! Pretty pathetic isn't it?

(BTW Aol sucks, but the connection seems decently fast for a 56k.)

Anyone else think they're more of an internet junkie?

Whereabouts are you? I live near Philly and a couple of areas are experiencing problems recently. However, you should have someone come out and check your levels. Another thing that should be checked is what level your modem is having to transmit at to maintain sync. I was having problems for a month, till finally they sent out a tech who knew what he was doing and found the root of the problem. I haven't had much of any trouble since then. Good luck getting your cable connection back again, broadband r0x0rs!

It works! I was sitting here about to connect with AOL and my cable modem's online light stopped flashing red...then lit solid green...woo hoo! only 48 hours to fix whatever the hell went wrong..

i have problems conving my dad to cancel it and get cable...i dunno if that counts.

Took me forever to convince my dad to cancel his ISP when they screwed around with him, and what does he do? Sign up for earthlink! At least I have my own cable modem in my room.

I've got ADSL. I didn't have to ask anyone. I just decided that ADSL was the thing, and ordered it. It's nice NOT having your parents around all the time

A bit more expensive though...

Gonna move into a house with 2 other techy mates in September. We've agreed between us to share a leased line: 2meg pipe for Ł110 a month split 3 ways baby.

I think you'd also have to lease 2 additional IP's. The reason is that for me, it doesn't seem that i can connect from 2 of my computers at the same time to a CS server, using the same IP. So I think you gotta lease 2 additional IP's.

Not if I host a CS site. They connect to the one proxy ip, to the server. I connect with a local IP.
Even less ping baby!
