I want to know what the masses think is the best 1st person shooters. And if its a small unknown game put it too, im curious. It is my assumtion that everyone love halflife the most. My Favorite is Starseige Tribes.

In recent history, Half Life, System Shock 2, and Soldier of Fortune are the only one's I've really liked. UT/Q3 were nice, but got boring very, very quick.There are a bunch of good looking ones that should be released in a couple of months from now, though. ------------------

Quake3 Arena for sure... the game out of the box isn't THAT great, but its the mods that make the game.I play WFA, the alpha, but the beta will be out tomorrow, which will own hardcore. irc.enterthegame.com #wfa Also a mod i am looking forward to is Rocket Arena 3, a very very nice mod there. ------------------

Wolfenstein still has the best concept ever. I just love kicking nazi-ass!Q3A is gonna rock when the big mods comes out. Speedball arena for instance! UT: The weaps are very badly balanced! Just pick up the sniper and pop peoples heads of...sucks! CS: When the new beta comes out it'll be my fave game, I think. AQ2...what a classic...still playing that one

I hate most FPS's, but for some reason I like UT. The sniper rifle isn't that great, because you tend to get sniped while targeting someone else, or an opposing player will just hit you with a rocket from point blank.

Lizzy: Just don't stand still. You hit just as good while flying 200 mph through the air, because there's no delay. And you can't speedjump in Ut...sucks

UT, is interesting with the different types of play that it has built in (Deathmatch, assault, etc)Half - Life has to be one of my favorites, because its more of a thinking game rather then shoot and think later (Q3 for instance). Plus the kick ass Counter-Strike Mod thats out for Half-Life, is very realistic and makes the best of the Half-Life engine. Although Im not a big fan of Q3, Q3f (Fortress, back from the original TF, from Q1) is an ok mod for Q3

There really is no 'best' first person shooter because it depends on what you're looking for. For instance, if you were a casual gamer and just wanted to play for fun, I'd say Half Life (Tribes, or possibly even Goldeneye). But if you were interested in winning and competing online the best game for you would be Quake3.

At the local game shop (my comp is piss poor...)

Im still a Quake1 fan myself.the best part of DN3D was Duke's lines.
"God, what a mess" "Your ass, your face, whats the difference" Doom was cool and i do have a purchaced copy of wolf 3d. Who said SpaceHulk! That game was cool, and i dont mean the computer game(well that game was cool too). Right now ill stick to q2, There is still enough servers out there that i can play on and have a good time getting fragged. Im more of an AoE/CnC fan. Tiberian run was a letdown, they can do better.

UT kicks arse. some of the levels aren't too great (face comes to mind..) but most are very balanced.-UT rox0rs anything out right now
-Tribes has the best multiplayer
-Duke 3d is a classic
-doom and doom 2 are classics
-wolf 3d has earned a spot in the annals of human history. gotta get back to work now, you guys have made me waste half my day! stop forcing me to come back here ------------------

respect to the classics, doom 1 and 2, and duke3D and wolfenstein just plain kicked ass. i remember playing wolf in my school's old computer lab. my teacher loved it. as far as best now, i have to go with soldier of fortune. come on, it has the half-life thinking factor going for it, some of the levels are hard, and the whole game is pretty realist. i just love the concept of getting paid a hundred grand to get a nuke back. and where else can you get that level of realistic gore? second is system shock 2, played that one for about 22 hours on a friend's system before his dad made him upgrade to a new os and deleted everything. my cd got scratched, so i can't even play it now. third is UT, it's just fun to see the supposedly "pure" church kids come to a LAN party and scream "bitch" at the screen as loud as they can. Q3 wasn't really that great, just eye candy. i never got into half-life, just went straight from duke and doom to system shock. just thought other games were better. good old 8 hour games of TA and age of empires.

Single player, Half Life cleans up!!! As far as team play, or a slower paced game UT is the way to go. If you just like holding down the shoot button, running blind, and respawning every 10 second Q3 is pretty cool.....------------------

o numero uno do jogos na internet sempre vou ser Jedi Knight.And IT will always rule too... Due to Patches, such as Spork, the game has managed to remain new even as it ages. The Multiplayer games are hardcore, and the ablility to leap 30 feat in game is always an added bonus. Tambem eu gosto de cogs... niguem gosta de me quando eu uso, mas tanto faz.

Yeah...ID wants to sell their engine. They said that at the release of it. Q3A isn't THE GAME, but Q3 is. The mods are very very promising, and the fact that you can actually still speed jump is very nice. I look like a spastic when trying to move in other games than Quake. And don't start bullshitting with "it's not realistic" crap, cuz' how realistic do you think it is, that 10 persons are running around in hi tech nuclear plants shooting rockets at each other? And respawning when they die...

wow, since ive started this topic, i was expecting mostly hardcore hl and q3 games to duke it out, but it seems everyone likes UT and hates q3. Although my personal favorite Starseige tribes only showed up 3 times on the previous page, oh well. Goldeneye was a valid answer, as that was my favorite console game.------------------

i still have ROTT (rise of the triad) on disk somewhere.. that was a fun game.. first FPS where the computer actually begged for thier life.. redilulas weapons like "hand of god" and strange powerups like "mushroom mode" it was/still is a fun game if you're bored

Thinking about it ROTT was a damn fine game, perhaps on a par with Q3 but UT still my fav, double enforcer + sniper the best weapons. Best music though was Unreal not UT

hahahahahaUT- is for people that have no skill. Hence such weapons as the redeemer. Set it and forget it. No skill involved. And you all talk about balanced weapons. And what's with the rocket launcher! geez, lets just plaster the whole place with death and destruction! Hopefully it'll kill someone. I gotta admit, Instagib kicks fucking ass, but with a railgun, it's 10X better. Q3- is for the hardcore that have actual skill, and know what they are doing. No overly powerful weapons, except maybe the shotgun, but it's nice once you can use it like the bots can. The other games- are fun. Don't play em much, never will. ------------------

Takes a bit of skill depending what level you are on. For example, turning a corner in a tight hallway.
The only cheesy way of killing someone in UT is the vengence relic (epic bonus pack).

UT is nice, because it's for people of all skill levels. People who suck at FPS's can snipe and use the redeemer (both put you at risk of getting easily killed from behind though), and if you're good at FPS's, then you just play normal with the guns and kill people. Q3 is for addicts, UT is for anyone.

I saw some clips from metalgear solid 2... I couldn't believe it. They showed about 15-20 seconds of footage. Then hears the kicker. After all that, they inform us that what we had just seen was all game play. NO FMV... I couldn't believe it!------------------

PERFECT DARK, N64 - omg this rocks. brings new meaning to 4play, has bots, single player at least as good as halflife, plus counterop!!! player1 = hero, player2 = a grunt! kick ass! 2nd. Just months ago I found myself playing doom. A source port known as zDoom I got off of doomworld.com . zDoom indroduced something I had never experianced before; multiplayer doom. And not over modem, through a newly coded internet IP system. Sure it wasn't the best, but playign with two people on a cable connection in co -op was the best. And fo rthe first time, we bothe beat all four episodes of Doom, finished off Doom2 in nightmare. And I have discovered a new doom addiction, I found a copy of final doom and we are just starting that. At one point I'd say doom over quake/ut/sof/hl any day. I dunno why, it was just something about it. though I'm not playing games as much anymore. Right now I'd have to say my fav fps it quake3 or the odd game of doom. ------------------
