i just had this interestig argument with a freind of mine and thought it might make a good discussion point for here. seeing as most people here are american/anti morachy, did any of you give a fuck when princess diana died? i thought it was just an example of how so many people had complained about her treatment of the press when they bought into it all anywayz and then just felt guilty about being partly responsible for her death so they tried to make up for it by queing for days to lay a wreath or whatever.< Personally i didnt give a fuck. > ------------------ < Where's your self re-cocking-spect > Posted by Vigilante on Aug. 05 2001,23:25
The only reason I even noticed her death was that the fucking news and funeral coverage plastered every TV station all day long for a fucking week.

I'd have to agree with you guys. But you have to wonder, if it were the other way around - say Bush dropped dead after attempting to memorize a four line speech, would Britain lend us their sympathy or celebrate like the rest of us? Posted by Vigilante on Aug. 06 2001,03:35
I would recommend they mourn, since we'd then have President Cheney for a few months until he keels over from a heart attack... I don't remember who steps up next, maybe the speaker of the house or a similar fucktard.

Personally, I was pretty shocked when I heard that Princess Diana had died. I can't say I "mourned" but her death certainly make me think over the whole media business, and also the way the Royal Family of Britain behaves (all the trouble about whether to lower the flag for her etc...).

I didn't give a rats ass either. But the degree of the countries reaction was quite suprising.. I mean, there was sod all on radio but mourning music for a few days after that, there was practically fuck all else on the news/TV either.. It was just.. insane.. i remember when all that happened, I was on an irc channel and someone over there was like "OMG Pricess Di was in a wreck" I was like hahaha maybe she died... and i felt bad when it was on the news.... but ohh well..------------------ Posted by YouGunnaStopMe? on Aug. 06 2001,13:20

Well, I feel that the royal fams are just like celebrities. Princess Diana wasn't all that bad and she did some (obligatory?) good deeds in her lifetime, and it was more often than not surrounded by media fanfare. Then an equally great, if not greater kind soul - Mother Theresa - was ignored when she passed away somewhere around the same time. Hmph. Posted by LazyGit on Aug. 06 2001,16:31
Oh MY GOD that mpissed me off when that happened.Diana died on the saturday and then Mother Teresa dies the following Friday and she was like some "And then some other random bollocks from the rest of the world ..." item on the news. People even had the gall to say that Teresa died because of the stress of Diana dieing. Yeah right, I bet she probably said to God, "Yeah, like I'm gonna care about that rich bitch, I had proper people to look after not ones that throw themselves down stairs because they're mental" |
