So last night on south park they said "SHIT" 162 times. I guess theyre just gonna pay the fcc fine(s). They had a little counter in the bottom of the screen that ticked off everytime someone said it. It was pretty funny.

does the number 162 pose any significance?
i mean as in Bowfinger the script that eddie murphy was reading had something like 1998 "k"s in it
so according to him it said "kkk" 666 times
which i found to be a rather good joke to pull on someone if u r black
start counting the "k"s everywhere and see if the number u come up with a multiple of 3

Well im wondering does the fcc fine you for every instance in a given show or for everyshow that you make the violations in. I do know that someone has to complain before the fcc does anything but whats the extent of the dammage they can do. So can the show be fined 324 times or just twice for the shows at 10pm and 2am?

you got some sand in your vagina? hahaha. that episode was awesome. just because they said it once in nypd blue or whatever they think they have the right to use it like crazy. they went overboard though. they are seriously pushing their luck hehe.

I saw it as another commentary on censorship along the same lines as the South Park movie. Did anyone else notice that "violent" sound effects were removed? When someone's head was chopped off or someone crashed through glass, there was no sound.

Besides, the show is rated TV-MA. The same rating they give to shows on the Spice channel.

Hell, turn on MTV late at night (if you consider 11pm to be "late") and you can get not only great words like "shit" and "fuck", but great variants like "shithead" and "motherfucker". Imagine my surprise when they ran a "scared straight" show, and the first thing I see after the picture tube comes up is a big black dude screaming un-bleeped profanities into the face of this 10-year-old kid.

I can't wait till our standards are as lax as they are in Europe. Does Europe even have content restrictions?

I was wondering about the sound effects. I just figured they never finished the sound for the episode, but that makes more sense.

I'm a BIG Trey and Matt fan. Everything they do has a double edge to it. It's usually self depricating, as well as social commentary. The entire South Park movie was revenge for Orgazmo getting an NC-17 rating... even though there were less swear words than that South Park episode, and one flash of one nipple. And even South Park was NC-17 until they made Saddam's penis into a dildo.

The whole standards and practices in the media thing is ludicrous. They stick to their guns to the bitter end about the stupidest things... can't say shit, but you can allude to it for a half hour. The radio people around here say 'ish' all the time, since that's what it sounds like when they play it backwards in a song. In Minnesota, the most popular morning show freely uses shit, and has for a couple years now.

One by one, we'll get those 7 words back. I've been using the words since 1st grade... why can't they?

Yah! Those guys are pretty genious the way make their message perfectly clear to the smarter croud and everyone else just gets pissed-off at the content! One eppisode that caught me COMPLETELY off guard was the one with the black guy getting hung on the flag. Not only do the succeed at making racial descrimination hillarious, but then they turn it around at the end and throw it in the face of equal rights activists! Brilliant!

Because then they'll need the RUUUUUNE to defeat the dragon.

I just love how that sounds with a Scottish accent to it.

The whole southpark movie was a pun on Matt stone and trey parker. They are the creators of south park and in its inception they got a whole bunch of shit from people about it being lewd and shitty animated toilet humor. T&P are the creators of T&P in the southpark world and in thier first movie in the southpark world they get a whole bunch of shit to an extreme about the lewdness of thier show which really is shitty animated toilet humor.

No, cr0bar, there are no rules over here.

In Britain for instance they run constant hardcore porn on BBC1 and death movies on BBC2. Those are the only channels we have.

Mind you, I saw some German adverts once and there were naked women walking around and it was a fucking aspirin ad. Weirdoes.

We have cunt in this country but only occasionaly, sometimes it gets bleeped.

I once saw this comedian, Adam Bloom, on a panel show called Never Mind The Buzzcocks. He says 'Do they bleep swear-words on this show' Then he just turns to camera and just comes out with a string of profanities for a good long while, even better than the worst episodes of Jerrry Springer for the number of consecutive beeps, and then says 'Cos if they do then you've just spelt bollocks in morse code' I pissed myself for about 10 minutes.

And why is it that Cartman can make me piss myself by saying anything? They've got a trailer for the new series over here and it's just Cartman saying 'Tits' or 'Totally tits' and I can't stop laughing.

BTW you know how the woman that did all the female voices killed herself well what's it like now? Or is a John Lennon thing where they've reconstituted her voice from everything she's ever said before so she sounds a bit like stephen hawking or have they just got someone else?
cheers

ok bbc1 shows boring crap mostly like period dramas or "shouting" dramas where everyone just gets angry. bbc2 is a bit more lax with everything. itv is just sport and james bond films.(no arguements there) and channel 4 basically pushes the boundaries showing south park all films in the uncut version, eurotrash is basically filth. but its a LONG way before we get anywhere near the sex violence and other stuff that you get in france and such they have public porn channels (and these arent even cable channels) the adverts Do have naked chicks in them and i mean full frontal stuff. but britain still cant show hardcore sex even on cable though channel 5(pfft like 15\% of uk actually get that) are trying to apply for the rights to show it as the are basically a tereestrial sex/dodgy channel i mean they show miami beach which is probably the most overacted soap EVER it truly is pathetic but thats what make sit fun. anywayz in the uk if you want dodgy stuff that aint on cable channel 4 is your best bet

Best part was when they were talking about the use of "fag"

Garrason: "I can say fag because im a homosexual."

"You mean i can't say "BEEP"."

Garrason: "See, you just got beeped"

Jimbo: "So you mean to tell me i can't say fag unless im gay."

"hey man, you did'nt get beeped."

Jimbo: "oh shit"

Garrason: "So, what, you want to go make out now"

I know i did not get that perfect but i could not see straight for a minute.

what i love the most is the fact on how radio shows and movies can have women orgasming, but they cant say pussy or shit or ass. i mean, to a young child, i would think a woman moaning and feeling her boobs (howard stern: private parts) would be a little worse than seeing a cartoon of saddam's penis.

Now, it's not like in Germany there is no censoring at all. I admit that ads often are built around sex jokes/allusions, and they show pretty much of the ladies, especially in cosmetics ads. You get used to it... it even becomes boring after a time.

As to the rating, it is usually lower than in the US (example: "Matrix" was from 16 upwards here, not from 17). It is focused more on violence than on language or sexual acts... most action movies are rated strictly here, like some James Bond ones 16+, and Con Air was actually censored before being 16+ (the uncensored version I saw was 18+).

Oh yeah, I was totally right. On Saturday and Sunday, on the replays of the episode, the violent sound effects were in there. Those guys were just hanging out getting blitzed and not working on the episode. Lazy bastards. That, or they got word that they could do the episode very close in time to when it aired.

one time i turned on comedy central, and it was the end of absolutely fabulous (i never understood what was so funy about that show...unless it was that they were drunk birtish people) and they were all having a massive uncensored orgy. i thought that was odd. i never saw any more porno on comedy central though.

hmm..
here in estonia (for those of you, that have never heardof it - go look it up in an atlas or something!) pretty much the only thing that can't be shown is porn. And they even show that sometimes, which causes something of a fuss afterwards. There was a this live talkshow and the guest were two lesbian chicks, who had sex in the studio. the 'aftermath' was pretty funny... but as for violence or mild nudity... those are shown even in the daytime. and nudey-commercials.

in cinemas it's all especially free... basically, the movies get ratings of some sort, but in practice they are 'recommendations', so a 12-year-old can go and see a porn movie .

I saw that, too. That show scared me.

are there even content restrictions in the US anymore? i mean its not illegal to show a female breast on tv in the US, but nobody does it because they are afraid of the wrath of the puritans. so are the so called restrictions actual law, or just the tv studios/networks showing self restraint?
Posted by Sithiee on Jun. 28 2001,02:25
kl1nk, the show, or that scene?

and mqa, i think its illegal, but only when someone sends a complaint to the fcc. some radio station in chicago has a 10k fine because of an eminem song they played, and one woman took offense, so the station got a fine. if no one took offense to what was on tv, then there would be no fine, and i guess therefor legal?

No. If an offense is not fined, that doesn't automatically make it legal. Something can be illegal by law, but not fined usually when it is committed. For example, in Germany, abortion is, by strict law, illegal. However, if the abortion is done within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy (or later with an indication that justifies it), neither the girl nor the gynaecologist get fined. Still, it is illegal.

If a radio or tv station broadcasts something and doesn't get a fine, that doesn't mean it is legal. "Legal" would mean that the can't get a fine for it (but obviously, they can as soon as someone complains).
