What the bollocks did he think he was doing by going and dying? I haven't even read his books yet. Played Starship Titanic though, that was smooth.Just thought I saw it on the news thought you might like to know, seems some people are fans of THHGTTG. I'm gonna have to read it now aren't I? ...Yes, I too was caught off-guard by the news. I read about it on the net yesterday afternoon. It's a damn shame, but you have to wonder... If he could have written a prologue to his life, what would he have told us? Don't Panic? i like to think of myself as a pretty callous fuck...i laugh at baby cows being slaughtered on telly and when Pri Di took her fateful place in that Renault sandwich, i just wanted to know if anyone had any decent pictures but...well, i am actually, today, properly gutted. Douglas Adams wasn't supposed to die! he was supposed to lead the way to a better life, unencumbered by mouse-driven space-time/meaning of life paradoxes. i probably don't realise just how much he affected my life and my attitudes but what i do know is that my life would have been a lot poorer without his books, which excelled in making the absurd seem so much more tempting than reality. so if you haven't, go and read them all now, today even. or i'll start reading vogon poetry. big up mr adams an ting you leave the world a slightly shitter place------------------ Posted by beuges on May 13 2001,13:25
<silence></silence> I read all five books in the hitch-hikers trilogy, in a seriously cock-eyed order, starting with "life, the universe and everything". Even though i was totally lost in the storyline, i made a point of tracking down the rest and reading and re-reading them many times over. i only regret not having gotten the time to find more of his work. his trilogy is amongst my favourites, right there next to "the lord of the rings" this has made up my mind... over the june holiday, i'm gonna track down all his books and read them all! ... He was one of the coolest authors I've ever seen. His books are placed in my shelf in the "philosophy" section, and that's how I feel about them. The Hitchhiker trilogy is a philosophy. And one of the best I've ever heard of. These books have helped me get through a dark phase of my life by cheering me up and whenever I feel like going mad I have to take them and read that wonderful message "Don't Panic". His wit and fun is so incredible that even the translation to a language like German cannot destroy it... "Goodbye and thanks for all the fish" has become a run on gag in my whole family. His death is a loss for all the universe. Posted by Puppet Master on May 13 2001,19:00

This really sucks =(... Well, he's up there in the great beyond being praised for putting the quote "Life is wasted on the living." in the HHGTTG. This message has been edited by DeadAnztac on May 14, 2001 at 02:16 PM Posted by Ash on May 13 2001,20:18
...I was so shocked when I heard. Now I gotta go buy the last three of the trilogy. The first two have left me with more that enough memorable quotes. -Ash Posted by askheaves on May 14 2001,05:18

quote: Well, there were originally three books in the infamous trilogy, The Hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy, The Restaurant at the end of the universe, and Life, the Universe and Everything. Then, he wrote another book in the series, and the whole series was bound and sold as "The hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy - A trilogy in four parts". Then came "Mostly harmless - The fifth book in the increasingly inaccurately named trilogy The hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy" This message has been edited by beuges on May 16, 2001 at 06:58 AM Posted by PersonGuy on May 16 2001,01:58

I guess I could look one up on eBay... it's not like I'm reading anything else right now. ------------------ Posted by askheaves on May 16 2001,15:03
Dear lord, PG.You need to read these. People who can't read need to read these. This isn't one of those obscure intellectual things "Ararawww, you absolutely must read Ballsac. He's truly marvelous. Ararawww" while adjusting your monocle and holding a glass of congac. This is important. It's good and important. Posted by askheaves on May 17 2001,18:45
