I had the same thing happen to me. I'd never heard of it happening before, except in a Maximum PC article I had read. Didn't have to worry about the cd much cause it was some piece o' shit program, but DELL did replace my cd-rom drive.

One of my more favorite CD's has a 3 inch crack in it, starting at the center (little place where you stick your finger) going out to the rim... It plays in my stereo just fine, but everywhere else it plays like a busted DJ who happens to be a spider monkey... It was a limited edition CD, too ...

how come the limited edition or really cool cd's always break before the shit CD's?

I'm really mad (and depressed) right now. I was holding my favorite cd in my entire collection, and I thought that since it was getting old, I should make a backup of it on my computer just in case something happens to it. So I load up the cd ripping software put the cd in, tell it to start, ten seconds later, I hear a loud pop from the computer. I see the program seems stuck, so I open the cd rom drive, seeing instead of my cd, a few shattered remnants of it. The other parts were scattered inside the drive, so I also had to take that apart, and I'm having trouble putting it back together. So I'm really pissed off...and I guess that this should go into the Rants forum or something. Maybe I should buy another copy, but it was part of a set, and it would cost about ุ to buy the whole thing again...

Correction: I just checked, and it would cost me ฿ +shipping to replace. goody

Any chance that was the Def Jam's 10th anniversary collection? I'd die if I lost that.

Wow. Never heard of a CD going under like that before.

what is wrong with dells? theyre the best big prebuilt computer company there is, its not like its a compaq or a packard bell.

Oh, man... Dell's attention to quality control is simply mind-boggling. I had to fix 7 or 8 of the 20 Dell Optiplexes in one of the tech rooms at my school within 2 months of receiving them.

compared with most of the larger companies, thats pretty good....have you ever used a packard bell? nasty.

Ok, I'll agree with ya there. Never mind the fact that they use non-standard power supplies, that's just goddamn annoying.

So that they become rare faster. Just a guess.
