Just so you know, the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo for PS2 seems to, in fact, 0wn.

It's like, you're playing MGS, but it's 100 times prettier, and the AI is tons cooler. You can threaten people with a gun and they put their hands over their head. Then, you knock their ass out, and drag them to the edge of the ship and throw them over into the water.

This is my favorite murder simulator to date!

This sounds worth buying a PS2.

I love simulated murder.

Yah... this may be the life perserver that the PS2 needs so badly.

When did it come out?? I have seriously been waiting for this demo. (going to blockbuster tomorrow)
It’s on Zone of Enders, right?

------------------
The problem seems to be in the I-D-10-T operater...

Posted by askheaves on Mar. 31 2001,03:59
It came bundled with Zone of Enders. It was a second CD in the case. If you have a PS2, I think it wouldn't be bad to buy it. ZOE isn't a coaster by any means. I've been switching back and forth between that and Black & White on the PC.

ZOE is awesome. It's like controlling a Gundam. Pretty much rules. It's probably the game to own until GT3 comes out.

Posted by Prometheus on Mar. 31 2001,04:15
Tell me about Black and White. I saw someone buying it today, and that's the first time that I had ever heard of it.

Daily Radar has a review of Black And White: < http://www.dailyradar.com/reviews/game_review_1341.html >

It's cool. You get to be a god, and you have people who you take care of... or torture. It depends on your personal tastes. The best part is that you get a 'creature'. I have a Tiger who walks on 2 feet and is about 20 foot tall currently. The AI is incredible. I actually say out loud "Good Boy" as I pet him. I like him. You can pick that, or a cow, or a monkey. I chose the tiger because he made the least annoying noises.

I've only put a few hours into it, but it's a bit of fun. If nothing else, I like having my Tamagotchi Tiger to keep me company. I feed him villagers occasionally.

Posted by Kintara on Mar. 31 2001,04:28
Stop living in a box man! If I had a good computer Id be playing it now. Its a Peter Molyneux game. Its what you call a God game. Read a review at Daily Radar or something. Ive only heard rave reviews.

HOLY SHIT! i got to try that (in the game that is). i played the demo yesterday, and it was awesome. nothing beats hiding in a cardboard box while a tactical team sweeps the room, then to have one of them point his gun at your box and then say "clear" 5 seconds later. throwing people off the side of the boat was fun too.
Posted by whiskey@throttle on Apr. 02 2001,17:04
Oh, man.

Forget the PS2. I just read reviews for Max Payne and Soldier of Fortune 2.

Tack on the fact that Medal of Honor, Red Faction, Doom III, Unreal II and the NVIDIA GeForce3 are also coming out relatively soon...and you can keep your shitty PS2.

Seriously, though - you should check out the teasers and previews for these games. They're completely unbelievable.

Posted by askheaves on Apr. 02 2001,17:46
I totally just tried that and it worked. That's soooooo wrong.

Actually, if you sit inside the locker with the poster, you can hit the FPS button, and it'll make a squrting noise. That's also wrong.

Posted by Rhydant on Apr. 03 2001,20:36
Max Payne was supposed to come out a WHOLE FUCKING LONG TIME AGO!
Unreal 2? hell, id buy that. only if it has a good ending this time.
anyone actually play through that whole entire game and beat the final boss just to see those few lously lines of text and no CG?!!?!? THATS INSANE!

That reminds me of something...
Why do most people act like PCs and consoles are mutually exclusive? I have a Psone and PS2, as well as a computer and I enjoy games on (gasp!) ALL of them. Why is that people, on both sides, seem so goddamn jaded toward the other?

And whiskey, please never mention Soldier of Fortune 2, Medal of Honor, Red Faction, Doom III, and Unreal II in the same post again. I had to change my damn box0rs after reading that.

Funny you should mention that, 'cause I crapped my pants mid-post.

Anyhow, I think all these games are "mutually exclusive" because I barely have enough time to sit down and play one stinkin' game...let alone several across three different platforms!

Posted by aventari on Apr. 05 2001,04:01
I'm with whiskey on that one. I imagine if I owned more than a PC, and was playing Gran Turismo 2000, MGS2, Tribes 2, and UT all at the same time; i'd be booted out of school on academic probation, fired from my job, then kicked out of my house for pimping myself to pay the damn electric bill!

needless to say, Tribes 2 is enough for me at this point.

That is the downside, I haven’t gotten anything productive done in, oh...about, 5 years.
Actually, come to think about it, I’ve never gotten anything productive done.

I was talking more about people, like my friend, who say shit like “man, I wish they would release Bauldurs Gate on the Playstation so that I could play it.” WTF??? It is already released, and it kicks ass!

Oh yah, Snake whacking it is an absolutely hilarious addition.

Thought I should let you all know that I've got a name for my Tiger in B&W.

Conversation with my buddy Jim in Chicago:

Me: i want to go home and feed villigers to my tiger
Jim: haha
Me: i still need a name for him
Jim: Chopper, Sick balls. As was said in Stand By me.
Me: so, i should call him Chopper Sick Balls?
Me: i like that
Jim: No just Chopper. he must be tought to sick balls
Me: no, i think i'll call him 'Chopper Sick Balls'

I must say, it's...interesting, to say the least. I'm usually not into the RTS genre, but I've found this to be quite addicting. Formulaic, but still addicting. I'm not saying it's a bad system... it's got a TON of power! But in the upcomming cosole war it's going to be the oldest (not that that hurt PSone).

M main cocern is how much developers hate all the programming hurdles it has. For example Oddworld's sequal got moved to X-Box JUST because the programmers got sick of making routines that SHOULD have been built in. Also PS2's development kits and licences are WAY to high to encourage any start-up developers.

Also Nintendo has the most impressive line up of 2nd party developers EVER. Plus Capcom isn't going to be an exclusive bastard anymore...

Finally, despite how many systems have sold, many gamers and critics are unhappy with the quality of games out for it so far. MGS2 and a few other upcomming titles are the only thing that can keep any sort of user base.

Oh yah, and as a side note... half of my friend that bought one got it JUST as a DVD player...

true that. xbox will suck ass. mark my words. yknow the problem the computer industry has right now? updates. patches. whatever. when you give a developer the ability to fix their mistakes later (like a built in hd) then you give them room to put out a less than top notch product. remember back in the day when nearly all software worked flawlessly when you bought it in the store, and you didnt have to update, and almost everything worked??? look at consoles. they are all the same, and its nice because its simple. adding on an hd is going to corrupt the console industry like patches corrupted the comp gaming industry.

its just not cool.

Posted by jim on Apr. 23 2001,11:07
Personally, I'm stoked about the X-Box. It's going to be the first console, or gaming system for that matter, to support the High Defention standard.
What does that mean?
1080i interlaced images displayed at a 1.85:1 ratio with full support for AC-3 6 channel audio.... My dick is getting hard just talking about it.

I think the salient point in the stability of consoles traditionally is the uniformity of the hardware.. You remove all other video cards than the GF3 from the world, you remove all other processors than the 700MHz pentium 3 from the world and you give all computers exactly the same stripped down windows 2000 kernel and then the bugs discovered per product would go riiight down..

But also, if a developer does screw up and ships a product with a notable bug in it, i'd rather that they were then able to fix it with little fuss, by the simple addition of a patch..

I kinda think that the xbox should use CD-RWs instead though, so that the actual media itself can be patched...

Posted by jim on Apr. 23 2001,11:23
I'm sure patches will be streamed via the broadband connection and be completely transparent to the user. ie. You'll never know it was patched.

My guess is that although the X-Box will allow the user to interact via the net. All executables will be digitally signed by Microsoft, or the Game manufacturers.

erm whats wrong with buying the ps2 for just a cheap dvd player. i mean thats one of the main reasons why i'm gonna get it. its the whole way of it being embeeded with so much broad possibilites for interacting with other hardware. £300 for a dvd player AND a top notch games system who wouldnt want to buy it for christs sake. and the also a lot of people slag off the whole only two control ports thing. well no one made a decent multitap for the n64 cos it had four ports so there was no real incentive thus there was sod all 8 player games. and i've seen the clips of the first x-box games and they look worse than a crap dreamcast title.

and i laughed my head off when i heard a spokesperson talk about how the x-box is supposed to be aimed towards people who dont usually play video games. wtf a games console for people who dont play games. yeah that makes sense why they dont go the same way ps2 is going in that they're trying to intergrate it into the home entertainment system.

so what if the ps2's hard to program for. the first set of titles seem to be quite good so as soon as they get used to the style of coding then the 2 vector units will be able to be used. NB: all the games released so far have primarily just used the emotion engine without even touching the 2 equivalents of a 3D graphics card. (same role in that they take the stress off the main processor).

and with regard to the code. mabye it should be hard its called progress it allows more powerful use of the hardware.

THAT is the sound of despiration...

SEGA Genesis's Sonic used, so called, "Blast Processing." What this means is that the system had no built-in standards or rutines for graphics processing, so one game could use the CPU to mostly calulate hit detection or player control responce, while another (such as sonic) could prosses graphics or map scrolling. This is what hardware designers and Microsoft likes to call "features." More like, "laziness."

TOTAL BS! Ubter NONSENCE!!! Look at the SNES with Mode7 and FX2... StarFox (yah, I know it suck NOW) was YEARS ahead of it's time in polygon rendering (...yes, I know about "I ROBOT" and such...)!! NCAA Basketball, Doom, Yoshi's Island, and Skyblazer were AMAZING games (on such limited hardware) and it would have been possible without built in ruitines that can save programmer YEARS of development time!!

And if the PS2 is SOOOOOOOO damn powerful, why does it need to manage it's processer at all!? Techology was invented to creat lazyness on the part of humans, and the, "features," are lazyness on the part of the hardware!

Listen... I'm not against the PS2... and I DON'T like the X-Box... they both have some good upcomming games... yadda yadda... but you are in COMPLETE denial about what your money is buying you. And if people get it JUST for DVDs and internet access, there won't BE a PS3.
