I've just tried to access the Senior Lounge and apparently I'm not allowed in. Wrong type of shoes or something but apparently I have to be invited. Well, not just me, but everybody if you want to go in there.

What the fuck is up with that? Isn't this supposed to be a community? Isn't the supposed breakdown of this community what people were arguing about a few days ago so now there's another thread that only certain people are allowed in? That makes sense.

I don't know who has access to that thing but I reckon my guesses would be inspired. Hmm, let me think, who could be in there...?
cheers

You're missing the point. Detonate needed an area where old-timers (since the inception of the forums and even earlier when the site was started) that wanted the "old Detonate" back - how it was before it had 900 members in the forums. These old-timers got it.

That doesn't mean that the normal detonate community has to diminish in any way. There are 20-some members, so what do you think the loss is?

One thing I can tell you is that if it were me I would have not posted a thread like this, because it seems to me that the powers inside the Senior Lounge might not want a person participating in it that bitched and bitched about not being invited.

There are no powers in the senior lounge.

It doesnt really make a difference to me. If anyone thinks they have anything important to say then they can say it on one of the regular boards. I dont want to be invited. To me that board just shows that people cried enough about other peoples posting habits they get their own board. Now they can invite whomever they feel posts messages aimed toward their personal preference. I wouldnt be suprised if people got pissed and left because they dont get invited in. I can tell you one thing, I bet we all know who was one of the first people invited in...

Problem with that is the 10 tones of crap from Fucknuggets you have to go through to find anything worth looking at.

Unless you are an extremely hot chick with large hoo hoo's I don't think it's gonna do anything (well, it wouldn't for me at least, I guess I'm not going to speak for cr0)

I bet that all the topics in there consist of talking bad about you behind your back. And mentioning your bad odor.

Agreed.

I think the Senior Lounge is both a good and bad idea. I think alot of Detnetters are going to get the wrong impression; that they're not welcome and that their opinions do not matter to the so-called veterans. I think it's a form of alienation. However, I must agree with cr0 or Snark or whoever came up with the idea for a private board. There's so much stupid shit and meaningless threads in normal DetNet. I think the 20-odd people who got invited/inducted were probably people who were just fed-up off all the criticism, flamage, and stupidity.

Why do you even care who has access there? Does it really matter?

Are you honestly going to say that the opinions of even a tenth of that really matter?

Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Aug. 04 2001,23:27
see i changed my mind cos of that. now i think if i did get access i think i'd just go round smashing chairs over peoples virtual heads and kicking the html in till it cried. ANARCHY RULEZ lets turn detnet into a wasteland!

Posted by t|nt|n on Aug. 05 2001,08:48
Erm, would it not be an idea to let those 20 something members post there and just let the rest of us read the topics.

That sounds like a good idea to me

??????

Hmmm. You make a valid point - but I think it defeats the whole purpose...people will just go in, read the topics, and then go bitch their opinion in The Classroom by creating anotherstupid-ass thread.

I do have one question for these so-called seniors though. What exatcly is a senior? Some people have been around DetNet much longer than others; just they've never registered in the Forums. I've been here since May 2000, I consider myself a veteran of DetNet - so why have I been excluded? By no way am I trying to get myself access to the SL. I'm just pointing out that the Senior Lounge isn't exactly true to name.

Exactly, what determines Senior status? How many posts you have? When you registered? How mature your posts are? How many people vote that you are liked?

For me the senior lounge is like the detnet irc channel.. at least I think there is one.. I've never actually been there. Ignorance is bliss.
Posted by Greasemonk on Aug. 07 2001,16:50
LOL then again Senior Lounge sounds more like Senior Citizen Lounge with firetalk where people sit around the fire in their wheelchairs talking about the good old days.

Okay, some people have misunderstood my point.

For a start, I wasn't bitching about not being allowed in. Although, as we're on the subject, why the fuck aren't I? Is it only people registered in May 2000 that can be allowed in? I may have only registered in June 2000 but I've been around detnet for a long fucking time. I remember when this board wasn't even here, I remember when detnet was 6 icons on a black page which happened to have the hilarious Hackers bastardisation. Or are you only allowed in if you smell of piss?

I know it's easy to say now but even if I was invited I don't think I'd spend much time there. It's just divisive and only serves to denigrate the quality of these forums in general, and that's inclusive of the Senior Lounge. I expect I would still spend most of my time in the Classroom because I find this to be the most interesting forum. It's worth having some occasionally annoying posts or threads because you more frequently get interesting or funny posts. And as for those in the Senior Lounge, they're missing out too because I'm sure there are lots of non-members who would have some very interesting points to make in the "Who's got the biggest willy?" thread.

What I'm basically saying is this, why does a small minority get their own private forum jsut cos they bitch enough for no good reason but still get to use the normal forums, it just seems ridiculous. Maybe you should have a newbie forum aswell. When people register they have to wait in quarantine for a month before they're allowed to post in the proper threads. That'd be a good idea wouldn't it?

No.
cheers

I could just be a dumbass, but that sure as hell sounded like bitching. And I think that's the exact reason why you're not allowed in.

Well, you make that sound very negative. And, in part, I agree with you. And there can be only one of two answers:

  • cr0bar and/or Snark are a part of the minority.
  • An ever increasing number of the veteran community has decided to have an unspoken untulmadem.

Learn to be funny and interesting.

More iportantly, I'm not allowed in for reasons other than not liking the idea of the Senior Lounge. I'm pissed off that the detnet community has become segregated because of stuck-up freaks like you who think that they're better than others. This whole thing reminds me of syf0n, he's the sort of person that would've wanted a seperate forum because he thinks he's so much better than others.

I'd prefer to stay with my homies in the Classroom.

Lets face it, the Senior Lounge isn't gonna be that good if you can still waste time trying to berate me in a thread I thought had died.
cheers

There's two ways to look at this.
1)
They're not growing. It seems you had be reg'd before June 2000 to get access to the senior lounge. Thus they'll always have the same stale opinions.

2)
They like their own opinions and don't want to read our opinions. Fine.
