Well, today is the day that those of us lucky enough to have Daylight Savings Time switch back to Standard Time. I don't know about other countries, but here in the U.S. it's also the day that a lot of people go around their homes and prepare them for winter.

In California, that basically means changing the filter on your ventilation system, then opening all the windows, turning on the heater, and letting it run until the bad smell goes away. Which I did.

This year, I splurged and bought the ย Triple-Layer Electrostatic Filtration Filter (Removes 95\% of all particles down to 0.3 micron, which is smaller than anthrax spores! w00t! ) and placed little filters in the vents. I will *NOT* have a repeat of last winter, where my eyes and nose ran continuously thanks to all the dust... my roommate smokes 2+ packs a day, Last March I discovered he hadn't changed his Ũ.95 air filter in eight years, making our heater an official Superfund toxic cleanup site.

He's gonna be in a pissy mood when he comes home, just like he did the day he found out I had replaced all the icandescent lights in the house with modern flourescents. He claimed that flourescents make him feel nauseous... until I pointed out that I had changed them all out two months before he noticed, and that earlier that day he'd been happy about saving ฤ on the electric bill, and the day before he was complaining about gaining ten pounds. He grumbled something about me being a "hippy" but I notice that he still hasn't changed the lights back...

Be careful on the snowy hills with that rear-wheel drive BMW of yours.

I don't know too much about winterizing cars (see above) but I think it involves changing your antifreeze & oil to something more winter-friendly. Ask a mechanic, they'll know more about it for your area than the misinformation you'll get off the Internet

Actully, I've done that already.

Check the pressure in your tires, Change your oil, anti-freeze and windshield washer fluid.

If you have something thats gonna sit all winter(ala a motorcycle, lawnmower, turboprop milk truck.) Do all of the above. Fill the gas tank all the way up, as full as you can get it. Take an oily rag and put it in the air intake and exhaust pipes(not dripping wet with oil just kinda covered).

I live in the frozen tundra and we just wait for it to snow then we start hibernating and gaining weight.

April 3rd, 2001, Sydney, Nova Scotia:

HUGE 3 day snowstorm, shut down everything for 3 days in a row, snow from that storm lasted 2 weeks. It was higher than the fence in my backyard, which is around 9 feet. The junior high school behind my house and to the left like a few 200 meters was loaded with snow. We were able to get on the roof of the school just by walkin up the snow. Fun part: we jumped off the roof of the school many times, it was such an awesome rush. I hope we get TONS of snow like that this year. Winter sucks unless there's lots of snow.
