Here's me with my (generally) very physics and math related beliefs... all of the sudden being kicked in the head!!

STORY
-----
Ok, it's a LONG story, so I'll sorten it...
I ended up with a program that does Astrology charts (the REAL kind based on that "science"). So I put in my infos for a laugh. After explain how Zodiac, Houses, Planet Alignment, Elements, etc. work, it gave me a 30 minute shpeel about all the shtuffs that my Chart says about me.
-----

WOW! By NO exageration, 95\% of this stuff was RIGHT ON!! So I put in a fake Birthday/time/place to see if it was just generalized answers playing tricks on me...

NOPE! It was only about 15\% right that time!

So here's me the super sceptic... should I buy into this a little? It still sounds crazy, but it was actually slightly "scientific"!

hmmm... opinions?

heh heh, my horoscope (next to the comics section in the local news paper) the other day, "Today you will buy a new computer or computer game. blah blah blah."

that day i went to CostCo and bought Age Of Empires II: The Age of Kings. i love this game. my World Cultures teacher plays it in class

You want things to determine your personality type?! C`mon PersonGuy, the answer is obvious. Take an MBTI test, trust me. If you want it online, take the test at this link < http://www.advisorteam.com/user/kts.asp >

Then, after finishing the test- it gives you four letters like ENTP or INTJ or ESFP or another combination. Take that, and go to < personalitypage.com/portraits.html > and click the link that corresponds to your personality. Then read, then browse around.

Btw, the test is 66\% accurate only, when taken online. You CAN hire a professional to test you, but its the whole co$t effective stuff then.

WOH WOA WOE! I wasn't saying I suddenly belive it or anything! I'm STILL SKEPTICAL! I just thought it was weird there was ALOT more to it than I orignally knew about, and that it proved to be VERY accurate!

I'm not saying that your personality and conflicts are determined by planet possisions... I'm just saying that mabey this is reading into something else...

or you wanted to believe the stuff the astrology would tell you about your birthday was true, and that the stuff about the random date wasn't, so you subconsiously applied it in ways that fit what the outcome you wanted.

Anyone ever met someone with the same birthday as you? Were they exactly like you?

Astrology is about as accurate as a fortune cookie.

WHAT? FORTUNE COOKIES ARE INACCURATE.....But my last one said I would be rich and famous. And that happiness was in my future.

Sorry to disappoint, d00d. But I'll make it up to you. I'll give you a free personality assessment.

You like having feet. You believe that sex can be a good thing when you are having it with another person and sometimes even when you're alone and you think like would not be better without skin.

Is that pretty close?

thats a good point. especially for the chinese year cycles. i'm year of the dog, and the description fits me sorta, but it's not like it would fit everyone who was born on the same day as I. not even close.

btw, has anyone tried handwriting analysis? i found it to be pretty accurate. then again it's based on psychology (i.e. science) rather then astrology crap
Posted by jim on Feb. 05 2001,14:19
Hey I did the Handwriting thing on this radio station here in DFW. You just faxed in a copy of the stuff they wanted you to write and then they randomly picked people to analyze.

The weird thing is I have the NASTIEST handwriting. (I'm spoiled with computers and type everything! I even print my checks)

BUT! I'm also an artist. I paint/sculpt/draw and all that good stuff. He picked that up out of my nasty handwriting..... WTF??? He also picked up my aggressive tendencies, stubbornness, and about 3 other VERY prominent traits that I have.

Needless to say I was very impressed, although I still don't believe in that shit!

Handwriting analysis is completely different than any astrology, as the rules for astrology have been set 1000s of years ago, with the only variables having to do with circumstances of time. I was born 5 weeks late... does that mean I'm really supposed to be a Virgo?

Handwriting analysis requires some interaction on your part, and you can feel some of yourself when you write. When I'm in a good mood, my words get extra loopy and confident. When depressed or scared, it's hard for me to make good looking letters. The analysis is merely an empirical approach to reverse lookuping what would put those scrawlings on the page.

You're all being idiots and you can't even tell!! LISTEN TO ME! Like jim, I'm impressed, but I don't belive that crap!

CatKnight, damage did NOT have a good point!! Your astrological chart is based on the exact TIME you were born (a few hours can make a BIG differance) AND the exact PLACE you were born (a few miles can make a BIG differance)! The only reason he's trying to argue that is because he doesn't actually know ANYTHING about astrology (not to say that I do... but I got almost an hour of lecture)!!

Granted: not all the kids born in the same hospital at the same time are going to be the same... or are they? Anyone notice the America is composed of Groupies??? Are alot of people predisposed to like N*SYNC??? Hehe...

Oh, and with all the technology, we can be from one side of the world and back in a day... or get info about anything anywhere... Planets possitions is a totally stupid thing to belive would determine someones personallity, but maybe it was reading into something ELSE that, while true thousands of years ago, has been fuzzed out.

a)that makes no sense

b)i think you are trying too hard to support astrology

c)no, not all the kids born in the same hospital at the same time have personalities.

Posted by solid on Feb. 06 2001,03:34
Sometimes, you just pop in to see your horoscope (or is it horescope.. or whore scope ), you are completely disappointed.

I, however, am always disappointed. They're nothing near accurate. Take your chances off logical rational statements not guesses.

As interesting as it might be.

Although, somethings that aren't so rational I believe in too.

Posted by damage on Feb. 06 2001,13:14
PersonGuy, I don't want to piss you off and I hope I don't but you really seem to be argueing FOR astrology rather than being a skeptic. You seemed to take offense at what I said and that strikes me as odd. If you don't believe in that crap, why would my statement piss you off? I don't care if you buy into it or not, but it seems a bit odd to argue that a few hours or miles can make an astrology chart change when you don't believe it works.

Again, not trying to offend, just trying to understand why you're getting pissed.

Nope... I specifically WANTED to laugh at how wrong it was going to be. And wanted to laugh when the second time was going to be just like me AGAIN. I got opposite results.

Actually, it was VERY SPECIFIC!! From the things I was good (mathmatics) and bad (physical tasks) at, to my favorite color (LAVENDER!) AND animal (ARMADILLO!), to stuff like, I don't like sweets very much, I'm deeply rooted in music, I debate about topics of understandy and philosophy, I'm a shy person and rarely say HI to anyone... I look for deep meaningful relationships, and find all others a waist of time... etc etc... This thing was DEAD ON with tons of VERY specific details!! One of the few things it got wrong was that I don't usually wear boots.

Anyway, to answer damages recent Q... I don't know.

I just think it's unfair for you to bash something that you have taken zero time to research! I DON'T belive that your personallity is DIRECTLY relaited to this. I don't think that it's ALWAYS going to be right! I just thought is was VERY interesting how accurate it seemed! Mabey it's just an index... like measuring someones hight... if it's over 7 feet it's a safe bet to say that they've played alot of basket ball.

My point: I don't know... I just thought that other people should try the REAL astrology to see if they also get good results, because the newspaper horiscopes are PURE CRAP.

Actually, I've done alot of research on astrology, tarot, witchcraft, palm reading, and many other forms of fortune telling and the occult. I just found that they had about the same chance of being wrong as they did of being right.

BTW, your favorite animal is the armadillo?
