I am recently in need of night vision equipment. If possible (depending on price) im looking for therm-optics(false colored thermal imaging) about 躔-Ŭk. If I cant find one of those I guess Id have to look at first gen light amp with ir. 2nd and 3rd gen are better but the ones ive used arnt worth the extra 񘐜-ŭk. I had a light amp monocular but it was kinda heavy and the fact that you only used one eye was a real pain in the ass. Any one have any experience? Jim, WG, WD? I found this site (among many) < http://www.usnightvision.com/ > that seemed decent.

Application is everything.

thermal is good if you dont want to id the target. The big siniper scope i used was a monster but it was thermal. it sucked to lug the thing around for a night shot. Basicly it was a modified Tank Sight.

The first gen scopes are good and can be modified to fit any camera. I had one with a pentax K mount that was great. Im a bit out of the loop when i comes to the second and third gen stuff.

when i left the army in 90 we had the PVS-7. They were second gen but i could see know way to get a camera mounted.

Get a 1st gen scope and get it mounted to the camera you want to use. Next get an infrared flood light. this will light up a big area. make sure that the light is BEHIND the scope/camera rig. It will be like daylight through the camera. You may even have to turn down the light a bit.

as for what to do to the guy, ponder this.

Most glass marbles are about .67" in diameter.

Here is a fun fact. Paintball guns are 68 caliber.

oooooh-ho-ho. Wolfgaurd, you are an EVIL little man!

oh course, you could just FREEZE paint balls. its a lot cheaper seeing as you can go to wal-mart and get a box of 10,000 for 15 bucks. and marbles might run you 2 bucks for 20.

but marbles... christ man, how do you think of these things?
evil evil evil!

I was just wondering why he hadn't shared that nugget of information with us a long time ago.

As for your application, I've been working with a bunch of cameras that are very sensitive in the Infrared region. You can pick up one for much less than 4 G's, and it's a standard analog output, so it goes right to the VCR or capture card. And IR flood lamps are also pretty cheap. I think you'd have better luck with that route seeing as how you'll have the crime on tape then.

Vendors to look at: Pulnix or Cohu. They do cameras for banks and stuff and they're pretty easy to use.

Well the thermal would just be cool to have and I really dont have to identify them cause theyre right outside and I can get out there and see them pretty quick. Who ever it is watches the windows in the house cause I tried leaving the blind open a little and the lights off for like 2 weeks and no sign. Thermal also lends itself to a second application in the future. If its a camara system Im gonna mount it in my grill on the front of my car and Ive got a badass little 4" 12v monitor that fits perfectly in my dash. The cops around here try pulling this little trick where they pull off the road and sit lights off, radar/laser on just waiting for you to pass. It would be a little heads up. My radar dectector doesnt do much good because your already past them when it hits you. Plus how badass would it be to just to have "predator vision" in your car.

Next first gen is cheap and effective to a point if its a hand held or goggle unit i can hide around the corner and watch for a couple of nights. If its a camara setup I can hide it in the bushes and monitor from the safety of the house. I could probably also stream it...which would be cool too.

I havent had much experience with 2nd or 3rd gen. Im not sure exactly how its different. I know first gen is actually amplified then projected onto a screen which is the image you see, making it easily adapted to camara setups.

Last, as for what to do to the guy. I dont have a paintball gun but if need be, Mr desert eagle can start barking fire. Hed be on my land and im "SURE" that hed be armed with at least a spyderco 3" serrated edge folding blade pocket knife (pn michealwalkerL).
