Finally, my "technically dinosaur" family moved with time - my mom bought a dvd player yesterday.

So today I installed it and all went fine until I realized there was not a single dvd to be found in this household. My sister and I decided to buy one each.

Now, you guys, guess which movie is LiNeY's first dvd? (all of you whom I told already - don't spoil the fun by saying it!)

Debbie Does Dallas?
Braveheart?

no no no, anything with a hunky guy lead?!

Hell yeah. Would I watch other movies?

And none of the beforementioned.

Fight Club is a DVD must.

I though Cast Away was a cool flick/double-disc DVD as well. Other favs include the Criterion collection version of Rushmore, and Memento.

Posted by Der_Teufel on Oct. 17 2001,16:20
Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition is great. Has like 6 hours of extra features on the second disc.
How old is the movie you purchased? Is the DVD relatively new or is it a 'classic'?

Eh? I've seen Tron on dvd before. I've actually put the thing in my player and sat down and watched it... was a friend's copy, though, hence my dilemma.
Posted by cr0bar on Oct. 17 2001,19:13
My mistake. The 20th anniversary edition is not released yet (duh).
Posted by EvilGenius on Oct. 17 2001,19:19
well, a lot of chicks came to the theatres i managed to watch Russel Crow, or Mel Gibson.. so my guess is Gladiator, or The Patriot.

Tron rox0r j00 411.

All wrong so far.

Mmmmh I just watched it... much to the discontentment of my mom, who has never seen this movie but nevertheless KNOWS it is not good.

Guess again guys.

Oh, whoops. I didn't realize we were guessing. I thought you wanted recommendations. Haha...

Okay, I guess:

  • Chocolat
  • American Pie
  • Magnolia

a movie that you know your mom knows isn't good? my mom thinks all movies suck...

so, another stab would be Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, or any other silly fight movie.

No. But, a number in the title is not a bad idea!

10 things i hate about you?
That movie was just too ridiculous to not be funny.
Posted by demonk on Oct. 17 2001,22:55
    S7ven
Posted by EvilGenius on Oct. 17 2001,22:57
    Gone in 60 Seconds,
Lucky Numbers (since it had the word number),

is it a sequal to account for the number?

Posted by Observer on Oct. 17 2001,23:20
    Demonk, it's "Se7en" instead of S7ven.
    Posted by whiskey@throttle on Oct. 17 2001,23:59
    se7en = great movie
    se7en dvd = cool transfer/package
se7en dvd disc two (extras) = big, fat disappointment
Posted by afropik on Oct. 18 2001,00:53
OK, this is an easy one.

    Purple Rain, right?

Posted by Hellraiser on Oct. 18 2001,01:14
Payback? Conspiracy Theory? What Women Want? The Body? Mask of Zorro? Wait, no one's mom would think that was bad.

Also, if you included some detail like one of the stars, or how new/old it was, might make it easier (and less fun, but still easier) for us to guess.

    my guesses:

    The Abyss
    As good as it Gets
    The Shawshank Redemption

btw, do we get anything if we win?

I spent all yesterday hunting for a Tron dvd, and came up dry.
    Posted by cr0bar on Oct. 18 2001,05:19
Get Baraka on DVD, if you can find it.

Tron hasn't been released on DVD yet. It'll be awhile.

Posted by chmod on Oct. 18 2001,05:32
what about Die Hard, the special edition one? that was pretty damn cool.
Posted by LiNeY on Oct. 18 2001,08:42
Okay, here's a hint for you:

It's a movie that is fairly old, it was released in 1986. The younger ones of you should by law not know about it because the rating is 16+, at least in Germany. It is "famous", although not quite the best movie ever made.

And Rhydant, what would you like to get in case you win?

Or do I have to post my other guess here?

The only great movie from 1986 that I can think of off the top of my head is Top Gun. That was a great movie.
