well it will not shut down all the way. (stops that the "windows it shutting down" screen) if i go on the net 2 time in a day with out reboting once. it frezes at the "loging on to network" thing, then i do the ctrl-alt-del thing and it tells me that the Msgsrv32 is not responding, if i shut if down then it finishes conectting. It wont run a scan disk or defrag either.

any one have any ideas whats wrong with it. and how to fix it.

thank you

are you running a few beta programs that are quite low version eg. imesh v0.000000000001
stuff like that always makes my pc seem like its running windows-conflict with everything edition

FYI: msgsrv32 is an Outlook dll mostly. I believe it's part of the MAPI subsystem, but I'm not sure. What are you doing for email? Have you 'manually' (brutally) removed Outlook express from your computer? Have you gotten an Outlook virus? All things to consider, but this dll is closely related to Outlook.

msgsrv32 is NOT an Outlook dll... it's msgsrv32.EXE. "messages" are what Windows sends when an "event" happens... things like "mouse moved" and "left click" and stuff.

msgsrv32 is the task that handles the distribution of messages to various apps. if it dies, the computer stops responding, and you have to reboot.

As for why it's happening... I'd guess you have a driver problem. I don't know which one, but try updating your modem driver first.

And remember :

"if all else fails, reinstall Windows."

This can easily be cured with a reformat + reinstalling windows.

When was the last time you reformatted?

reformatting is unecessary and evil!!!

just deltree your Windows directory and reinstall.

or, to be supa 1337, use 'move' to rename your Windows directory, like so :

move windows oldwin
cd \oldwin
del win.com
d:
setup

{ get windows reinstalled, drivers working, etc. }

From a Windows command prompt :
xcopy /h /e /c /k c:\oldwin\*.* c:\windows\

{ press 'n' every time you're prompted to overwrite. You'll probably just want to hold down the N key for ten minutes or so. }

that will restore your desktop, start menu, fonts, and any .DLLs not included with the standard Windows install, without overwriting any drivers or Windows DLLs.

Some apps will have to be reinstalled, some won't, but you'll have a clean install of Windows without too much hassle

Question: Do you have an antivirus package installed?
I got a feeling from your info that Scandisk and defrag won't work, it has to do with that. Try disable the AV prog and see if they work and then if it shuts down ok. If so, then un- and reinstall it.
I've seen McAffee do this a lot.
