Does anyone know what the absolute BEST MP3 CD Player is, and where I can buy it? Anybody here have a MP3 CD player? What do ya's think about them? Should I wait for the next generation ones to come out, or did some come out already? Any advice/recommendations?Thanks! Posted by solid on Jan. 25 2001,21:32

i built one once. it used an ide drive and a footprint 486 board. it ran linux and decoded mp3s with an entire song of buffer. it didn't skip at all.it cost about 轜 to build. then one of my partners on the project broke it. now, it is a 轜 pile of JUNK. ------------------ Posted by j0eSmith on Jan. 26 2001,02:45
Am I safe in assuming you got your partner back? With blood? and high explosives? ------------------ Posted by StanVanDam on Jan. 26 2001,19:53
That's pretty cool Kuru. Not that yer partner broke it. Sounded like a good project. I really need to get a hold of a good mp3 cd playa soon. Ah well somethin will come up sooner or later..

Well, the NAPA is nice, but it doesn't offer shock protection. I'd say the Philips Expanium is the best.

From what I hear, the MpTrip is considered the 'highest quality' MP3/CD hybrid. Frankly, I think it looks similar to a hot, steaming ass-patty, but that's just me. Seems to me the MP3/CD hybrid market is real young, and it'll be a generation or more until some really nice ones come out. I mean, the MP3 players out there still suck. ------------------ Posted by StanVanDam on Jan. 27 2001,16:46
Yah I hear ya LowOrbit...it'll prolly be a while till they come out with somethin good. But I want one NOW!

The NAPA is a great player, and at < http://www.mp3playerstore.com > it's 货 US.If you want something that's a different, you can get something from < http://www.compgeeks.com > , under the Consumer Electronics part. There's 2 different MP3-CD players for under 贄, or a multimedia player (non portable) that TOTALLY kicks ass. It plays DVD, CD, MP3, CDRW, VCD, SVCD, XVCD, HDCD, DVCD... everything you throw at it. 赉 - but you do get a damn fine DVD system in there too... take a look at it. one of my friends has the napa, and it is pretty cool but bulky. it DOES have shock protection, hey, the cd stops spinning after it reads a few minutes into the buffer. it has a remote and, get this, can play video cds. theres a little mono 1/8" plug... just buy a mono 1/8" to rca at radiohack and you can play video cds. he told me it was pretty cheap too... however if you only want an mp3 player there are others that have much more mp3 functionality and less extras.------------------ Posted by Anubis[GP] on Feb. 25 2001,23:30
I've owned a Phillips eXpanium for about 5 months now and I must say that it kicks ass. It has excellent playback and I've not noticed that it has any problems. Plus, it has 100 second ESP and Dynamic Bass Boost features. Oh yeah, and it comes with a AC adapter, car power adapter, headphones, and a car audio adapter.BUT, theres an even better one out now that I'm thinking of getting. It reads ID3 tags, and it even comes with a remote control!!!!1 /me drools hehe Anubis ------------------ Posted by askheaves on Feb. 26 2001,01:41
Yeah, well...In a couple days (maybe tomorrow ) I'll be getting a 1Gig CompactFlash drive and a sleave to fit on my iPaq. I'll also have a 340Meg drive, but I don't think I'll be needing that. So, I'll have a 1 Gig storage of mp3s, with a 12bit color interface, and the ability to build my own playlists. Can't wait to hook that into a tape adapter for my car... God that's pathetic. Still, gotta love work for supplying me with a car mp3 player. Posted by Stuntman Jack on Mar. 08 2001,01:59
Hey, if you are all looking for a damn good price on one, here is that Napa one, and it even plays VCDs, for under a 100 bucks, it ain't bad at all. Also, they sell Generic cd's for frickin cheap as hell, like 9 bucks for a 50 pack of 80 min. < www.computer123.com >

i went to a few sites and looked at the NAPA DAV310 Portable MP3 CD & VCD Player and i still have no idea how many MP3s it can hold and... um... doesn't having both CD and MP3 in one defeat the purpose, i would buy a POrtable MP3 playa 'cos they are small and have no moving parts but when they glue a cd playa to it it makes it bigger + i might as well just convert my MP3's to .wav and burn 'em onto an 80 min cdr thus i needn't worry 'bout memory at all. maybe i am missing the point. but personally i think that with these law suits about napster and MP3 swapping, getting "free" music will become a lot less user friendly which will do what to the MP3 playa industry? drop the prices, kill demand? i will wait to get one if i do, i think the next gen will be cheaper anyeway.------------------ Posted by DeadAnztac on Mar. 13 2001,23:59
heh, no Psychosomatic the idea is that you burn the mp3's on to the cd and these will play those hehehehe so if your wondering it's capacity anywhere from 650 to 700Mb hehehe
