ugh, and the "hampsterdance" theme just popped into my mind ...

before they installed workstation logins at my undergrad, I used to leave a bunch of computers at the hampsterdance site ...

Hey Vigilante, where in Maine are you at? Did you see the new high-speed wireless connection making it's way to the mid-coast? < http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2001/10/12/maine.html >
Almost makes leaving Paradise worth going back...almost.

(I used to use that ISP back when they charged for a 2400baud telnet connection. *sniff*)

You dont remember 2400 baud. I remember back in the day I had a 14,400 baud modem and was the official mac daddy of the neighborhood.

i was using a Hayes 2400 Bps. modem on my homemade 286 well after 28.8k came out.

the days of local BBSs and games like LORD, and BRE, LOD, Arena Warrior, Usurper, and one of the best of all time Crash BBS, the most l33t BBS hacker game ever. ooh, and Cripple Smash too...

1 baud = 1 bit per second (bps)
note:
one kilobaud != one kilobyte per second
(1000 bytes != 1024 bytes)
Posted by just_dave on Oct. 16 2001,22:05
i used to still have a 2400bps modem somewhere. Used it on this pager program for my comp once. For some reason it used that modem it come with the software the company bought at the time. HEHEHE they give it to me (the modem and software that is) .... I wonder if I still have the rampage software??

/me digs in the ole disk caddie...

edit: I cant speel!

WHAT!? What do you mean 1000 bytes does not equal 1024 bytes!? I don't get it!

What you mean is 1 Kilobyte == 1024 bytes (1024 == 2^10)

Posted by CatKnight on Oct. 16 2001,22:21
my first computer was a kaypro with a 1200 bps modem.

actually I also had a ti-99 at about the same time.

btw, trade wars rox0rs!

I would LOVE to play it again. It would be awesome if we could just get a game going with only detnet'ers. Maybe a flash or java version?

well obviously... but i was just really pointing out the difference between kilobaud and kilobyte, because i was curious about that for a while myself.

I'm near Portland; that stuff is way the hell north of me. Fascinating, though.
