ok we've had that geek music post but what i wanna know is who is a real fan of trance/house. this'll probably only apply to british people cos we are of da clubbing generation baby!
What i'm after is not reall the same "oh i like such and such a type of music " but a disscussion on whether you find the primal PHAT bass to take you to another level like i do with it.

Yah BT had a kick-ass 43 minute song on Ima! Chicane 0wnz! Robert Miles 0wnz (although he's actuall "dream" and recently moved to "ambient house")!

I have to agree that it's definatly more popular with the Brits. I know some people who think Massive Attack is a Heavy Metal band!!! h4w!

Posted by DjSokol on Jan. 23 2001,01:28
It is very dumb of you to assume that trance/techno are only big in england. They are big everywhere in europe first of all - Russia, Poland, France ( i think ), and Germany. I live in america, and I also like it. If you want to get a good song, get the Excalibur remix of O'Fortuna or anything by Scooter.

Trance is one of the most horrific forms of music on earth.

It's not THE most horrific, that accolade is reserved for hard house.

Bangin' bangin' bangin'!

shponlge is sweet, followed by astral projection. and hallucinogen with lsd and dark magus? oh yeah.....

that mp3 blanalex posted is fucking killer. I've gotta get some more paul van dyk.

Has anyone ever heard Thee-o? He's a great dj from LA, but I can't find any of his stuff except mix tapes.. i hate analog.

i like the stuff that my friends mike, chris, and keith spin when we're just hangin out at home.

keith's mostly trance. mike and chris are pretty varied in styles.

Posted by LazyGit on Jan. 26 2001,09:16
Some nice beats? You mean the same one over and over again, I guess.

But trance IS music because they put crap keyboard tinkles over the top of their 'music' (for music, read 3 year old tapping on the top of an upturned bucket).

Posted by kuru on Jan. 26 2001,09:36
i like it because it flows nicely. 'music' or not, techno, especially trance, is very relaxing to me.

Lazygit mabye you misunderstand the concept of music, it involves repetitions in every genre EVER apart from avant garde i suppose but that sucks, and jazz well thats in a class of its own. If you dont understand it you never been to a really good club and danced to it. it's not just about listening to it, its about involving yourself in the music, switching your brain off and just taking it as it comes thats why i find trance for instance very easy to listen to and dance to at the same time, in one sense it gets me going, in the other it just mellows me brain out.

I'm not sure if this falls in the realm of club techno, but I can't fucking stand house or deep house.

Especially that X-Files theme remix by Dj Dado (and everything like it).

House seems to be the 'MTV alterna-pop' of electronic music: mind-numbing, mass produced, regurgitated poo.

Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Jan. 26 2001,22:05
erm i dont know if you know this but trance is part of the house genre. trust me there's a lot of types. just cos you dont like one doesn't mean that all house sucks.
Posted by solid on Jan. 27 2001,00:13
house is a little too "fruity".

thats where trance improvises on.

cr0's right. Trance is an emersive flow of muzak, while house is "throw something or say something on top of BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM"

Sorry, cr0's not right, trance is a baby of house. House is just more disco-y that's all. It was invented in a gay club after all.

Bob, I've been to what's supposed to be the best club in the world, Republic in Sheffield. I got bored to death.

There's repitition and there's annoying repitition, in most other music I can concentrate on the stuff that's changing to keep me interested but barely anything does change. Trance was designed for pill poppers who don't really need anything interesting to get them going just something rhythmical, if that's what you like to listen to, fine, but I like a little more.

And you can't dance to trance anyway. Unless you want to look like a dick and do big fish, little fish, cardboard box.

Now, there are some good people in house though but I do get bored by most of it. Chemical Brothers and Armand van Helden are both alright and Daft Punk are excellent, but then I suppsoet they would be good because they've come from a hip-hop background.
cheers

Posted by Der_Teufel on Jan. 27 2001,18:37
Forgot to ask: Does anyone wanna trade trance/techno music videos? I got Blank & Jones, ATB, Scooter, Paul Van Dyk and more.
Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 27 2001,23:22
I got

Chemical Brothers
Fatboy Slim
Jacknife Lee
Josh Wink
The Crystal Method
The Prodigy
Mocean Worker
Goldie
Dieselboy and Technical Itch
Photek Roni Size/Reprazent
Adam F
Talvin Singh
Sly and Rossie
Underworld
and
Deep Dish W/ESTG

all on one DVD... but of course not many of those are trance... and I'm not trading... oh well... just bragging

You're confusing real trance with lame "club techno" or "electronica" that's terribly repetitive and uncreative.

Posted by blanalex on Jan. 29 2001,23:18
Well is seems that Paul Van Dyk's mix was popular, maybe you might like < Genetic Trance > from Blue Alphabet, for my standards it's really good.

Also, i've got some old techno from 1992-93, which is the soundtrack of Future Crew's second reality (gotta love alpha-blended, non-textured polygons on an 486DX/33 without graphic accelleration). This is some really good music.

You can get the soundtrack (along the 6 other S3M's i had at the time) on the same ftp: < ftp://207.253.133.20/pub/s3m > . The two soundtracks are the fc_sr_*.s3m files.

man trance.. when da phat bass plays and you feel it pumpin through your skull takes you to another level. your adrenalin starts flowin you blood feels like its boiling your body says stop but your brain says no your heads gonna fuckin explode but you cant stop, the primal beat is drivin you on you lose track of time and every sound starst merging into one another you dont hear the moozic now you fuckin feel it through your soul and the people around you are no longer defined as man and female but just human beings everyone else is feeling the same way as you andyou just wanna keep going. and thats with just alsohol i dont even wanna imagine (well actually i do) what its like on extasy!!!

now i would say that is a "slight" different effect to some guy strummin a few strings on a gee-tar and a bloke shoutin stuff into a mic that u cant understand (much like garage music *spit*)

anywayz if you liked that paul van dyk mix i bought these mint cds the other day. both were triple cd sets for just £10.99 each when usually the MoS ones are £15.99 for 2min long crappily mixed songs on 2 cds half of which are just boring.

"21st century deep trance" - react label
"21st century trance vol.1" - react label

notice the connection? fuckin each trax like 8 mins each and still mixed perfectly.

Phat Choons? You bet! I love that stuff. I'm a big fan of funkyHouse at the moment, that is mostly to do with putting samples of KC+ the sunshine Band and the like through it.

You ever heard AmbientTrance? Kinda like Dream, but more uplifting, and not as drawnout. Oh yeah, and NuNrg Trance I rekon is going to take over from regular trance.

This< link > is a good place to get UK choons.

Paul Oakenfold,Paul van dyk,ATB,Signum,DJ Tiesto, Darude, Judge Jules,Yousef - My fave UK DJ's.

Oh yeah, < this > is an NZ radio site, if your awake at the right times, try to listen to Nice'N'Urlich on Sat (Friday US).

Nobody really understands what's going on with that. Pissed 16 year olds stand in front of the DJs with bits of paper with TUNE! written on them because they think the DJ gives a shit.

Propellerheads and Chemical Brothers are British.

It makes no sense.

Where I come from we describe things with adjectives, not nouns.

edit: I guess it "tune" could also classify as a verb, but given its context, I don't think it would connote praise...

edit again: what a stupid phrase.
