The review I had read complained about the fact that the racial message from the first film and novel were scrapped in favor of an "Animal Rights" theme which still didn't have any teeth to it.

For a good evaluation, I highly recommend renting the original. Yes, it's very cheesy, but it does have a good story to it.

I personally have yet to see a remake of a movie that was better than the original. The original Planet Of The Apes, from what I've heard, is better than the new one. The Dune remake was all glitter and no depth. The new Psyco was an insult to Hitchcock. There are two more remakes coming out, and I have some hope for them. The first is the Tron remake. As long as they keep the story line, I think the movie could actually be good. The second is The Time Machine. I don't know how many of you have seen the original, or even read the book by H.G. Wells. I have the original on DVD and I really like it. Sure, it screams 1950-1960's, but the story behind it was a really good one. Anyway, those are just my thoughts on "remakes", or as I think of them: "Hollywood's atempt to make more money by hoping people will come see the movie just because it has the same name as a really good older movie, even though the two are almost nothing alike and they hired a monkey to write the script for the newer one".

Are you afraid of going into space?

Not at all, as long as they dont send us to that dreaded planet of the apes...wait! the statue of liberty!? MANICS!!! YOU BLEW IT UP! DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!

the time machine movie rocked...kinda. got a bit ridiculous with the whole devolution of humans.

If they make a remake of tron i will personally kill them!

I for one enjoyed it but god forbid going out and having a good time at a movie....

Had alot of alpha male interaction and shaky camara work but it fits.

The only worthwhile parts of the new version are Charlton Heston and Estella Warren.

Yea, the makeup was pretty good ... I was pleasantly entertained ... but as long as you don't try to nitpick and analyze it down to the micromolecular level, it's all cool. Sure, some acting needed coaching and other miscellaney made me raise an eyebrow ... oh, I liked the soundtrack

I saw a trailer for the Time Machine remake. Do they really have to use the same style of machine used in the first movie? I thought they could come up with something a little better since Wells' novel didn't really describe it the way it appeared in the '60s movie.

You have to admit though, PotA had plenty of room for Boogie Nights references:
