It seems that for the last month I haven't been able to connect to _any_ counter-strike game servers. I've downloaded version 1.0, and I think, _think_ I've downloaded half life version 1.0.1.4 or whatever it is (if the newest version is completely neccessary, please tell me so I know to look in further detail). The specific error I get is a message that says, no matter where I connect, that I'm using a different protocol than the server; It says I have 42, they have 43, or something. Could someone _please_ help me out? It would be much appreciated.

reinstall half life and download the newest upgrade patch for hl and the full install for 1.0 that should fix it. assuming you can download those big files at a decent speed hhehe.

Thanks for the help...I do have a 56k, though, so I find myself on a new adventure everytime when it comes to downloading.
Anyone else got suggestions, they're welcome, but while I'm waiting I'll try this.

If your protocol is 42, then your half life version is definitely out of date. You'll have to snag the newest one; you may or may not have to reinstall CS 1.0 after that.
