'K, I've gotten enough donations to start an ad campaign for my shitty little game. Anybody know where I could get the most impressions for as little cost as possible? Should target the internet gaming/nerd/alcoholic crowd.

I've heard FARK's a good place, but I'd like some other opinions.

Generate a press-release with a couple screen grabs.

Send them to wired, salon, etc, asking for a review.  Look for sites that need new content related to your game.

Ask a beer company if they would host/mirror it in return for a cut and product placement.  Sell the game to Budwieser... I've been to a cigarette site that had a smoking game on it!

Shit, post it here too, dude!

I think there are 100 regular members who visit.

Know those idiots who spam Detnet sometimes?
They get deleted. If they just wrote me first I'd probably let them post their link and then see how many views the thread got.

Write to the forum Admin instead and ask them if they'd like to do a review and maybe trade links.

I do that a lot.  There should be over 30 sites linked to my commercial one.

Meet the banner ad I hope to use. It's sad and underdone, but I'm not an artist.

Uber, stop beating yourself up.
Let Detnet do that.

Speaking as one with a little graphic experience, just make every line a different color.

Leave it at that, it's very succinct already!

Suggestions on the banner: too many frame changes. Try having the initial tag lines appear sequentially in the different corners, so you can see all of them at once; then clear and change to "And it's all on the house," and finish up with the Barkeeper logo.

All good ideas. I'm going to send out messages to beer.com and associated sites when I'm ready. But still, the names of websites to advertise on would help.

And kbreak -- I'm not trying to put myself down. I've come to terms with the fact that I really *do* suck at artistic stuff, so I've said the hell with it as much as I can. Unfortunately, no one else I know is any good at graphics, so I have to do it anyway...

Aww, shit, it was a joke.

If you know what you're not good at, you must find someone who can do it for you.

That's why I can post 200 times a day and yet I pay an accountant to do my bills.
I'm not good at bills, so I found her.

Yah, now she tells me to get more money but that's not her issue, it's my lack of new work.

Do what you're good at and get someone to fill in the blanks.

God knows it's hard to find them, though. They're all getting paid by people. *scoff*

(Edison.)
You're giving up too fast.

You are a small-business owner.

So am I.

Um, Uber?
I clicked your link.

I have to register just to see what's inside.

I need something on the front page to make
me *want to register.

Did I miss something?  A splash page?
Posted by Uberkommando on Jul. 06 2002,06:40
Toldja I need graphics.  :D

No real portal page, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to show them to make them want to play -- it's text based; I don't have anything flashy or particularly cool to look at. Ideas would be nice. Perhaps big, neon-green, italicized text, and flashing images?
Posted by forumwhore on Jul. 06 2002,06:44
Uber, you need a front end to launch your site.

What if you went to some web-designing websites and offered a partnership where you supply the game and they do the pictures and colors?
Posted by Uberkommando on Jul. 06 2002,06:59
Not really keen on that. I've written and run the whole thing so far, and I'd like to keep it that way as long as I can. Sentimental value, you see -- I started it over three years ago as a calculator game, and I don't like the thought of having other people's name or company written on it.

I'll mess with it a little, redesign the portal site, and try to make it more appealing. It's still at the tail end of the development stage, so I haven't even been thinking about marketing until recently. Bulletted lists of features and backstories are popular with this sorta stuff, right? Screenshots wouldn't do much, since the game has the same layout as that page you saw...

Uber, I'm almost out of beer now.

They gotta have a reason to go inside.

They have to be tempted.

What are you offering?
Posted by Uberkommando on Jul. 06 2002,07:11
Casinos, crackhouses, bordellos, games, police raids, mafia involvement, concerts, raves, wet t-shirt nights, commercial espionage, and custom drink mixing. I s'pose this should be on the front page?
Posted by forumwhore on Jul. 06 2002,07:17
At least metatags, yes.

Got to give them a reason to enter.

Am I full of shit here, someone?

Posted by Vigilante on Jul. 06 2002,10:25
