does anyone actually understand this? i need to learn it in like 2 days, but i cant find much on it, i sort of understand the idea of f = g + h, but not really...if anyone has implemented it with some well commented code(in c++ maybe), so i could see the code working, that would be fuckin awesome....and i would credit them if they really wanted it...yeah...i am so fucking lost...and if it gives you something to build off of, i understand some of the heuristic stuff, like breadth first, and depth first, and best first....yea...

I think Sith is trying too hard to get to 1000.

A* = pathfinding algorithm...this is yet another example of why we need a geek forum...

OK, then. I have seen a Java app out there that implements A*. It was a cute little app that had a grid thing, obstacles of different resistances, etc. You click a start and destination, you can set up the terrain, and it'll find the shortest path. I seem to remember that the code was available. Don't ask me where it is... i don't remember at all.

did it say it was A*? cause theres lots of different methods to doing this, it just seems that i have a problem finding one that does it well....and i found a prog that shows a lot of different methods...but that really does no good if i cant look at the source to understand it...

If you're going to go into CS then you should probably get a book that has all of the major generic algorithms, like the knapsack, A* and shit, describes them, and has the code.

i think that me and my partner are gonna have to bail....yesterday i found him cracking up when he got to the portion of one book that said "most games take 12-18 months to complete. about 1 in 1000 can be done in 4 months." that and "before you start programming games for windows, you should take about 2 months to learn programming windows, like make a window, and some text, and draw on it and stuff" now the reason its so funny, is because our teacher thinks we're gonna finish by the end of school (thats roughly 5 months). so basically, were screwed....heh...
