I first heard the term a few years ago; it irritated me so much when people would tell me, "Oh, it's 4:20 and people are lighting up all over the world".I'd remind them that there are 24 time zones and an international date line, they would ask what that was, bla bla.
Only 52 minutes till 4:20!

Nope, guess again. Ask a cop if there is a code 420 for posession and he'll give you a blank look.
It was actually started by a group of High School kids in Humolt county, CA. They all got out of school at 3:10 and had various activities until 4:10 and agreed to meet in a nearby park at 4:20 every day near a statue of Louie somebody or other. People would overhear their coments in the halls "hey, you down for 4:20 Louie?" and I guess ask what they were talking about. 4:20 Louie got shortened to 4:20 as the slang moved through to nearby schools. High Times wrote an article about the phrase and the 4:20 Louie story has yet to be disproven. I think there is a video of the original High School kids on the HightTimes website.

Glad wiley was here to straighten that little thing out. I'm just trying to remember the name of the group; they actually had a nickname for themselves. I'll post it later if it comes to mind.Unfortunately, I'm not smoking, as 4/20 happened to fall within my month of quitting. Two more weeks and I'll smoke again, but every other day was getting to be a bit much. Got to be careful though after that, since I'd like to keep my financial aid and all. Hope you all got some dank.

I think 4/20 was also the day that the Columbine thing happened. Also the lady who lives across the street from me commited suicide last year and her house number was 420. Creepy.

Yes and the fire at Waco that killed the Davidians happened on 4/19, and the Oklahoma City bombing was on 4/19, and Adolf Hitler committed suicide on 4/30.Significant things in history have happened on various days of the year.
3 guesses what happened on January 1, 1970.
