Personally I use Filetopia. Its got chat rooms where you doubleclick a persons name and a list of their available files come up. Tons of movies and games.

People would run the app on their own if you added some cool screensavers and let them join clans to transfer the most data. Like SETI@home for business uses.

reminds me of distributed.netit's an ongoing contest that runs when your screen saver is active. basically they send your computer computations for it to do and send back the results..
