I started to read her dragonrider / Pern chronicles, and I've now read the following books:

Dragonflight
Dragonquest
Dragonsong
Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern
The White Dragon
Dragondrums <-- im now reading this one

Man, they fucking rock!

Has anyone else read anything by her?  Like the non-Pern books?

Everyone's entitled to my opinion, so fire away...

Oh, and where've I been?  Well, that's a long story.  I should be around more now.

Anyway, on with the book discussion!

e r m, so where have you been?

but seriously, I read a bunch of her stuff as a teenager, and generally enjoyed it.  She writes well for the volume she puts out, and most books had a unique quality.

After a while though, I got dragoned out.  There's only so much you can do in her world, stuck in say, the 1400s? I missed spaceships.

Dragonthis, dragonthat. She write anything about zombies? Or zombies that can set fire to things by pointing at them? Now those kinda books rock.

she's okay, but I liked the wizard of earthsea something or the other ... and the dark is rising series ... man, I haven't touched those books since middle school.  Almost 10 years.  My god.

How about Anne Rice?  vampirethis vampirethat ... given the chance ... would you do it?  Sure, you'd be damned, but daaaaaamn :)

Earthsea is Ursula K LeGuin, and the Dark is Rising series was penned by Susan Cooper. I read the latter back around the 4th grade, as well; fantastic stuff.

Haven't touched McCaffrey (or Rice; immortality is one of the most horrible things I can imagine), though I do have some fondness for the later Darkover books from Marion Zimmer Bradely (who died before finishing them, crazy.gif )

How about Zelazny?  No more Amber books...

Zelazny, Amber.
There's a flashback. I read the first 5 back in Jr High. Stopped the series, huh?
Anyone read Vonnegut?

As far as I'm concerned, that's a tiny price to pay...

I wish I could find more of Alfred Bester's work to read, the Demolished Man kicked my ass.
