This won't be turned into a poll, since no one likes them.
Come, disparate personality-disorders!  If you like this design, please say so!
If you don't, ditto.
Wanna "adjust" it?
say so!

< Anzatc/Wiley Page 2 >

Perhaps the theme of Detnet is going to be

THINGS THAT GO FAST!

Now that you mention it, the logo could be a simple .GIFF  thing done in blue flames.  It shouldn't bog the page down at all.

Thoughts?

Ok, took a real look at what they did, and I have to report the following;

I was a little wrong.  Not totally.

< The Other Page >

Now take this with the colors of the first with blue for the logo and we have a weiner.

now that is all
Posted by BlackFlag on Mar. 09 2002,06:08
i like the 2nd one better.
the blank space in the upper right next to the detnet graphic needs something to be there though.  Like maybe the original detnet logo would be a nice touch.

Specificity would be nice.

I'm going to redesign the pages, I need input, and I won't change it on a whim.

Good Morning Mr. Anztac!
To be specific, I prefer the second one using the colors of the first.  The logo appears unfinished somehow, and I'd like to see blue flames inside the logo.  What you did < here >is inspiring! Another sample that makes me say,< wow! > Thanx for taking the time to do this when you have other things on your mind!

Posted by Anztac on Mar. 09 2002,18:15
Wow, looks like you've been browsing Editor.  Well, the second one there is a friend Deo's work, but yeah, it's easy enough.

Like I say though, I'm not changing things on a whim, and when I work I tend to work in big splurges, so I want some more opinions first :)
Posted by Spydir on Mar. 09 2002,19:24
again, it's a really nice design, but the links that come in when you click on a category don't blend with the design right.  They're red over a red background.  Maybe if they were a yellow or really bright orange, or white or something.  Otherwise, pretty damn nice

design and logo of the second with the colors of the first would be yummy. the blues and yellowish explosion just look too cold to me. thumbs-up.gif

Is it possible to make a flash-less site? Flash interrupts my music and bogs down my computer.
Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Mar. 10 2002,06:03
As long as it's not .ASP, I'll be happy... since we don't have the ability to run .asp files.

I consider that a feature...

Editor, sorry I've been so lazy with regards to this site as of late... busy busy busy... but I'm still on your team, right? :)
Posted by Anztac on Mar. 10 2002,15:59
How about .php, huh?  Huh?  ::nudge, nudge:: C'mon!  You know you wanna make it possible for me to script in PHP!
Posted by Bob_the_Cannibal on Mar. 10 2002,19:58
<agent_smith> I _hate_ animation, this, flash. it's the speed. and every time I visit a page, it slows to a crawl. it's repulsive.</agent_smith>

seriously, do we realy need flash? PHP is okay.

if we really need flash, I can 'donate' a flashless interface. like the one I submitted already.

No, it's cool, it's going away.

BTW why do you care about PHP?  It's nothing your browser ever sees.
Posted by Bob_the_Cannibal on Mar. 10 2002,23:03
Anz: yes, I know, if ya wanna make it in PHP, that's fine :) you asked, and I said NP...
Posted by Anztac on Mar. 10 2002,23:47
Heheh, well, ya see, I was asking damien to make it possible for me to write parts in PHP, it's something he'd have to add to the server (or allow for some kind of external host scripting or something.)

Actually...

Hey, damien, wouldn't it be easier on the server if we put up a page for generating static pages on DetNet?  The host for generating could have the MySQL, PHP, Mod_perl, you name it, and then whenever anything was updated it'd just change things on the development server then upload it (scripted FTP is very easy, even web called scripted FTP ;) .)  Be much easier on the server, increase security on the actual server, and it'd make me happier :)

If that was a possibility I could host it as well.

P.S. Sorry for the scattered thinking of this post.

At this point, any old fucking site would be nice. All the blah blah blah blah blah about it is driving me nuts. Shit or get off the pot.

Posted by Anztac on Mar. 11 2002,00:11
Interesting, but we're trying to build something more permenant.

If you want to help the site you could always start writting for it...

Ah, I'm really only good at spouting abuse. But if you have a topic you'd like me to cover, providing I know something about it, I'd be happy to abuse it. Oh, I mean, write about it.

What, has it been 3 months since the new guy came in and still there's no real front page? One's gotta wonder. I'd love to contribute, BUT, I don't have the knowledge it requires, at least in constructing a website. So I guess it's my job to sit here on my ass and bitch. I'm reaaaaaaaaaaal good at that.  devil.gif

unfortunately, I don't run the server.  We'd have to beg the sysadmin for PHP support, and we still might not get it.

Building static pages via a .cgi interface would work well.  Unfortunately we are limited to just a few languages - the various Shell variants (sh,csh, etc.), and Perl.

If you are interested in writing .cgi scripts, please contact me regarding the web server configuration.  We need a common detonate.conf file for modules; I'll coordinate that.

/me points to the end of my previous post for damien to read

;)
Posted by TonyDennis on Mar. 11 2002,02:18
And you're paying them for hosting? That's a shitty deal, if you ask me.
Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Mar. 11 2002,03:14
hint taken :)
Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Mar. 11 2002,03:35
Okay, coders.  Here is detonate.conf :

Code Sample

# detonate.conf rev 0.1
#
#
# USAGE NOTES:
#
# During initialization, your application should set $APPNAME to whatever your project's name is,
# and then load in this module :
#
# $APPNAME = "my_kewl_skript";
# do 'detonate.conf' or die "Can't read detonate.conf, exiting now.\n"
#

if (!(defined $APPNAME)) { $APPNAME = 'generic'; } # In case someone forgot to provide a name :)

$WEBURL  = "http://www.detonate.net"; # The base URL of our content
$WEBROOT = "/usr/apache/lib/detonate"; # Path to our content root

$CGIPATH = "/usr/apache/lib/detonate/cgi-bin"; # Path to our cgi-bin dir.
$CGIURL = "$WEBURL/cgi-bin"; # URL to our cgi-bin dir.

$DATADIR = "/usr/apache/lib/detonate/data/$APPNAME"; # Please write data into $DATADIR
# If you need to write a file outside of
# $DATADIR, please coordinate with
# jon@lunewax.net so you don't trip on
# another module :)
$DATAURL = "$WEBURL/data/$APPNAME";

$PWDPATH = '/bin/pwd'; # Location of pwd (can be useful :)
$PERLPATH = '/usr/bin/perl'; # Location of Perl interpreter
$SENDMAILPATH = '/var/qmail/bin/sendmail'; # Location of sendmail

Adjust the variables to suit your Web server, and then code to your heart's content.  To make sure that we can easily get your program running on our server, please don't hard code paths to anything; use the variables provided instead.

ah, yes, I see your point...

I can host on 384K fractional T1; it's plenty fast for now and has mod_perl, MySQL, Apache::ASP, and I should be able to get PHP going too.

What do you think?
Posted by Anztac on Mar. 11 2002,14:57
That would be lovely =)

I could also host if you'd like (non dedicated T3), but no FTP on my host, as we've tightened i down so only SSH with private key authentication can connect.  We do however have SSL, PHP4, MySQL, PortegresSQL, CGI, mail, blah blah blah blah.

Anyways, you hosting would probably be for the best =)
Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Mar. 12 2002,07:24
ok.  i have to tweak the web server anyway, should have it set up by the end of the week.

Um Anztac, DSL, Wiley,
any news?
"inquiring minds want to know"

Hello, Mr DSL; could you do me a favor and talk to Anztac?  He needs to coordinate with you!  Thankyou.
