March 23-24 2002 i will be running another Robot Conflict event.

Fort Washington Expo Center
Fort Washington PA

over 70 robots in 3 weight classes

should be quite a show for the big box.

cool. id go, but you see, i dont live in washington

ive wanted to build a fighting robot for awhile now. but the closest ive gotten to that is attaching nails to the front and back of a remote control car. but i popped a tire with it, so i guess thats cool.

Editor:  Dont worry, when im done you will not be able to get me to shut up about it.  devil.gif
Posted by Rhydant on Feb. 16 2002,03:12
well, i dont live there either, so its doesnt matter.
Posted by Wolfguard on Feb. 16 2002,20:19
then why are you bothering me?
Posted by fatalbert on Feb. 16 2002,20:46
Rhydant, I'm sure lots of people here don't live in Washington or Fort Washington, but you don't see them flooding the forums telling Wolf they can't come...I don't think he even invited you...

edit: btw Wolfguard, I really want to put a flamethrower on my mini train set and enter it in the contest, but I don't even have a flamethrower...let alone a train set, so I guess you won't be seeing me in PA...plus the fact that I don't even live there...just thought I might tell you...incase you wanted to know.

Does everybody else see the irony in this post, or is it just me?

is that your living room?
funny that someone in a higher social class than me lives is just as much squalor. :p

I might pop by the event, if i can figure out how to get there by public transportation.

Wolf: I am in digital electronics class, and you can build cheap digital circuits that may help you out.  Maybe like a power sensor or some kind of sensing units or something ... but I was wondering it you just use servo's and radio receviers for controls on those suckers??

BF:  That is just the work area.  It backs up to the sliding door to the front porch so i can drag everything outside and work there when its warm.

Dave: What i really need is something that will take the PWM signal from the reciver (4-6v, 1.5ms center, 60hz) and use that to drive a power mosfet(7.2-24V and as many amps as you can drive).  Also a version of this same controler for 4-7V and about 10-20 amps.  Need these so that a change in the pwm signal produces a proportional change in the V out.  If this can be programable with jumpers or switches even better.

Also needed would be a switch that drives a relay.  That and a failsafe device that kills all signals or produces a programable signal that goes live when the rx signal is lost.

The pwm signal is 1.5ms nutral or off.  2ms would be full forward and 1ms would be full reverse.  Figure a 20% deadband centered on 1.5ms.  Rember that weight and size is an issue :)

Let me know what you can do.  I may have a market for you.  Just remember small and light.

Give me some time to mull it over and I will see what I can design.  I will link you to some schematics and plans if I can come up with something that will be useful.  It would take some planning but i know if can be done  :D .  I will let you know what I can do and find for ya.

Wolf, I've seen RobotWars on UK telly, and was always wondering, why do folks always go for the cheese-wedge, flip-em-up kind of bot?

Also, are there rules about using electricity as a weapon?
You could use one of those 10,000v(?) zappers and just have your bot with a flat conductor plate extending from under the front and then a triggered hammer on the top, with a nine inch nail on the end hooked up to the other pole of the zapper device.

Trip the hammer as soon as the plate goes under the enemy bot and then flip the switch to zap the internals on his bot.
Would this idea be a: feasible; b: allowed?
Posted by Wolfguard on Mar. 06 2002,16:39
feasible, yes

Allowed, no

The idea is to make parts fly.  It no fun if you can let the otherguys magic smoke out from across the arena or if a fight comes down to a single contact.

Kenetic weapons only.  Here are our rules, they spell it out.

Im Exausted!

Loaded the box on the truck wed.
set it up thursday and friday.  Played with the news people friday (i got on TV without the statement "the body count is still rising")
The event itself went great.  2 days of distruction and nothing got out of the box.
took down, loaded, shipped, and unloaded the box yesterday.

Pictures will be posted as soon as we all recover a bit.

Personaly
Phelan snaped a drive shaft in his first fight.

Chrobbot (guy with the saw) went 2-2.

ZipTieBot made it to 4th place with a 3-2 record.  not bad for somethign that has been in the tool box since september and all i did to it was replace the batteries and duct tape.
