Hey everybody! :D

I've been at DigiPen (the game school) for over a semester now. It's been a blast! Everybody keeps asking me what I do over here and very soon I'll have something to show for all my hard work! Invasion Squad XIV is a game me and 7 fellow classmates are making and it will be done in early May. Basically, you're the commander of a bunch of aliens in a giant mothership. Your job is to take over America. It's pretty cool, cause not only is it a fun idea... but we already have some working prototypes and it's pretty damn fun! :)

I've been doing my best to hold out and keep my upcoming game a secret, but it's finally time for it to be unveiled! w00t w00t! We got this cool chick to make a website for us, and she's doing a damn fine job. Check it out and find out more about the game!

Let me know what you think!  :p

And I don't remember a Dwarfy.............. are we talking about Midget???

hey PG, was the adminsion process to get into digipen difficult at all?

like how many applied and how many of those got in?

The hardest part of getting into DigiPen for me was getting a loan! It took me 3 FUCKING YEARS!!! But yah... odds aren't good and get worse every year with all the expsure the school gets lately. 30,000 request admission packets every year... 3,000 actually fill them out and only 120 get accepted (that's just for the programming stuff... I'm not sure about the art program). One of my friends here didn't get in till his third application. On the other hand another guy I know turned his in late (3 weeks before school) and somehow made it. The admissions is a very "personal" process here though. It's not COMPLETELY based on grades. A lot of it is talking having phone interviews, recommendations, and being excited, interesting, and honest. Anyone can get here as long as they want it bad enough.

Personally I recommend that you take a LOT of math... learn either 0 or at least 2, not 1, programming languages (C++ being one of the 2)... play with level editors a lot (Jazz the Jackrabbit 2, WorldCraft, Abuse, StarCraft, etc.)... look for a program by Sierra called "Klick&Play" and mess around with it... and learn how to convert between binary, decimal, and hex in your head.

Anyway... you can actually play the game now! There's demo up on the site! But don't expect anything spectacular... we JUST started implementing the actual "game" part of the game.

Have fun. :)

Clik & Play was by maxis I believe. I remember messing around the demo that was on my simtower cd.

can you elaborate on that?

Well DigiPen actually PREFERS that you haven't learned a language. This is because of the problem with teaching yourself only one language: you build a lot of bad habits that are hard to break and can actually make it harder to learn. However, by learning more than one language it gives you a broader perspective of syntax, logic, and debugging. Basically (like spoken languages) the more you learn, the easier it gets to pick up new ones. Here's an analgoy for ya... it's hard for you to learn a 2nd language because you already know English. But it was easy for you to learn English... cause you were born knowing no language. Also after you've learned a 2nd language, it's a lot easier to learn a third.

Hope that makes a little sense....
Personally I tought myself BASIC, PASCAL, C++, JavaScript, and TI-xx before I went to DigiPen.

you know TI?....

I like taking people's TI-83's at school and putting this little program I made up on there.  it displays "are you a jackass?" and has a prompt for yes or no.  no matter what you type it says yes, then it says something like "deleting all your programs because you're a jackass" and it fakes like it deletes all the programs...  freaks people out.

ROFL! Here's my favorite "idiot" program!

:Labl A
:Input "",A
:A->B
:While B=A
:A+((int(A/10*rand+1))-(int(A/10*rand)))->B
:End
:Disp B
:Goto A

Just run it and clear the screen. Most idiots won't realize the program is running, and whenever they do a computation it gives the wrong answer... but just by a little bit so that it isn't too noticable. This is great for schools that hand out TIs, cause if you run it and then leave it... when it does the auto-shutoff the program is still running the next time it's turned on! >:]

Hey, hey, hey! The new version of ISXIV is up and ready for download at < http://www.invasionsquad.com >

< >

This time it's much more playable. There's a couple holes in the game play but I think we can patch it up in the next 3 weeks. Check it out and let me know if you find in a major problems. Oh, and to help us balance the game... Try to not use the cheat codes unless nessisary. Then keep a log of what day (turn) you used it on.

Have fun! :)

Not cool.

Ok, the beta is up! Play test away. Pretty much everythingworks except daily engineering sceduals, some of the items are already "unlocked" before you research them. And there will be a "matter transporter" that moves resources from bunker to mothership. This will be the last version with cheat codes, so enjoy it while it lasts. Oh, and if there's anything that you want to see in the game, voice your oppinion NOW, cause it's due Friday! There's only one week left!!

Enjoy! :)

OK IT'S DONE!

< >

It's not amazing, but it's done. And there's only 3 major bugs that I've found so far. It'll only take a couple minutes of your time, so just give it a shot. You might even *gasp* like it! :0

Anyway, next year's game will be a TON better. We're planning on using Direct 3D to make a 2D side scroller. YEAH! :D

Have fun!
