I'm pretty much just putting feelers out, but does anybody have any great development opportunities out there? My company is hurting pretty friggin bad, I haven't been paid since December, and nobody seems to want to invest money in a company that even has a website... not to mention the amateur nature of the people above me trying to get that money. The end just feels awfully nigh, and I wanted to see if anybody knows of a good job out there for a really good software engineer.Brief Quals: Several SDLCs, quality control, C++, 6 months of working with Microsoft's .Net platform, OOA/OOD, etc etc etc. I have a resume, and I hate to beg, but if you know of opportunities, in pretty much any part of the country (preferably warm), let me know. I don't expect much out of Tucson for a dev job that challenges me. Thanks, guys. bmorien@hotmail.com Posted by editor on Feb. 02 2002,03:44
sheez, that blows, AH, sorry about that.I bet if enough of us keep an ear to the ground we can find something for you.... 'course if LiNey finds it, you may have to learn German, heh. You could post a link to your resume here, so if someone does hear about a job, they can just get your resume off the link. Buena Suerte, d00d. Posted by askheaves on Feb. 02 2002,04:48
I know enough German to get by as it is... (Mochte, ein bier, bitte... wieviel kostet das madchen?) and Germany wouldn't be that bad. I'm not at the end of my rope yet, but I'm getting close. Maybe this should be in rants, but it just bothers me that I should have saved just a little more money so that today's bills could be paid off, and I could go get food. My own bad... had to get that 32inch flatscreen Sony. Moron... So, yeah. I guess just keep the ears to the ground, and I'll scour the monster for anything in the western half of the US. Thanks for caring, folks. Big hugs for all! Posted by editor on Feb. 02 2002,05:25
hmmm,Let's goto < craigslists > and find the closest large city. Find the nearest job description for you. Write and post a short email in jobs wanted, and post a picture too; that impresses them. this is the important part at the bottom, check the part where it says "ok for others to contact you". About 6 weeks ago, I looked for computer people to donate time for detnet for free exposure. I got the most recent email back for jobs about 2 weeks ago. I think I got about 35 replies, including a guy who wanted to write a column about internet addicts (! who can buy a patch to cure the addiction. (actually, now that it's written out....hmmm) That way I got into the ass-end of an email spam job board. Also, that way you don't have to post in all the different cities and get kicked out, like I did! To be honest, I know you're scared, pissed, concerned, worried about your connection speed if you move, wondering what you'll have to sell....that blows, for sure. I'd worry to, if I were you, esp. as I have jury duty for at least a week coming up and I can't replace the lost income. I may not make rent! If I don't get rent I'll still pay for this rackspace... What I mean is, other people worry too! And we worry for you. I think it was the Chinese who said, "behind every disaster is an opportunity" or to that effect. What if you took it up the butt for a few weeks and then got a job that paid quite a bit more? Would it be worth it then? Why not wait and see, and if it sucks, you can get scared then. And you can ask me how I got through February too! //edit the URL like all you guys Posted by Anztac on Feb. 02 2002,05:51

On paper (ie, my employment contract) i'm making 73K plus stock. It's tough to believe that i'll find something that pays better. I will follow your advice though with craigslist. Hadn't thought to look there. I'd like to move to Southern California, but I don't know what I'd do with my guns.I had heard about all these dotcom dudes who were out of their jobs when everything crashed last year, but never really felt any empathy. The whole thing just makes the oddtodd.com stuff all that much funnier... and sadder. So, I guess it's cool to join that fraternity of poor folks with skills, but no job... then again, I actually have skillz (with a Z, to make it fresh) So, let that be a lesson to all you high school kids who want to get into computers. Just avoid it. It'll never work. Get something more practical, like a Journalism degree... with a focus on Public Relations. And then, drink yourself into a stuper every night. It's the only way to be happy in this bleak, bleak world... *sigh* Anyway, I'll wake up sometime tomorrow afternoon, check this board, and then hit the monster and craigslist and see what I can rustle up. Then, I'll jerk off for a day and wait for the superbowl, where I'll forget everything about life while drinking down a 12 pack and watching grown men get paid millions to touch each other's asses, pin each other to the ground, and throw around an air filled sacs to each other. I know a place up in the mountains about 35 minutes from here where you can shoot guns/large caliber. In downtown LA where I am, I know a gunclub that is for pistols. |
