Forum: The Classroom Topic: new titles started by: editor Posted by editor on Jan. 26 2002,04:57
Obviously I've been jerking around in the admin options for your viewing pleasure; and they're not perfect right now. Some of you have over a thousand posts and your title doesn't reflect that. I know about it. But I'll fix it later. I'm tired now. I'll try one more time. Admins can feel free to fix! Not like you need permission for that... Posted by editor on Jan. 26 2002,05:07
I really thought I got it this timeI went to something like "member group options" and instead of editing existing groups, I added new ones instead, like if you have over 800 posts, you get (this) fancy new title. I made 3 of them, I think. I hit "apply" and not...much happened. at least I got rid of 1337 h4x0r for those with over 33 posts. Yes, I did re-load the page Posted by editor on Jan. 26 2002,05:27
MEOWR!grrr. I really bit into that on, and Incubus is still an intern. I don't understand why the changes don't take place, all of this for a little fun *sigh* You can flame me now, I'm going to bed. It'll get fixed. Posted by ic0n0 on Jan. 26 2002,05:46
i am not going to flame anyone

All i want to know is what plank owner means and why i am a guest?
Posted by editor on Jan. 26 2002,06:07
I'm pretty sure whatever changes I make are retro-active; so if I got it right the first time and not the second, I look even worse.I made several changes. You should not be in the Guest group after your number of postings. A plank-owner is someone who made I think 400 posts. A plank-owner is a crew member who mans a ship when it's launched and is like a parent. Many other crew come and go, but a PO was there when it first happened; that can't be taken away. For sailers, that's an unusual honor, which is what was meant. Those with over a 1000 posts, the title was just, "Fear Me" and those with over 2000 were "I know what you're thinking" or something OK so I took admin around for a joyride tonite. After a week or 2, wouldn't you try it? It'll get fixed. LiNEy is still the lady of detnet. Posted by ic0n0 on Jan. 26 2002,06:47
oh i thought it was just me i thought i had an individual title, well damn

Why does it say that I am a guest??
Posted by Dark-Angel99 on Jan. 26 2002,09:44
Whooops didn't read what you put editor, sorry. Ok, so I have to have a certain amount of posts before I get rid of that guest thing. The thing I dont understand is that ic0n0 has more posts than alot of people that aren't even guests.

There's only one way to fix this mess... nuke the site from orbit. It is the only way to be sure.I get why you changed the 133t haxor title I mean this isn't no hacker site... ofcourse it isn't a sailing site either so I fail to see why "plank owner" is applicable. Hell, I don't even get it. Something more universal would be appropriate like: Ameiba [start] Multi-celuar organism [30 posts] Amphibian [75 posts] Humanoid [150 posts] Sentient Being [300 posts] Advanced Intelligence [500 posts] Sex Machine [1000] Carrier Monkey [1500] Jedi Knight [1750] God-like omnipotence [2000] Completely Normal [2500] Super hero like even [3000] Just throwing ideas out there. you're very creative! I mean to get back into the title thing later today; I have several clients to photograph."detidiot", tha's me Posted by editor on Jan. 26 2002,18:23
OK, I advanced ALL guests upward, and still, there they are....there should be NO guests. Hmmm. I have to go back to work now! I mean, my day job...

Fear Me looks really funny under Abu. I'm not smart enough to know if that's custom.I personally won't lose sleep over it, but I'd be honored to be recognized. It's like, I never asked for an Academy Award, but it was nice when I got one... of course, I had to steal it out of a loading dock. Posted by Rhydant on Jan. 26 2002,19:12

Ohhhh, Dark-Angel99, you've been "fixed"...I hope I don't have to fix all of you by hand.... we'll see. Posted by Jimi on Jan. 27 2002,01:40
I like that, personally I think that's the best yet by far. I think possibly a poll to see who wants to use Nons idea? Posted by editor on Jan. 27 2002,04:30
I have an idea for detnet interns to escape that pernicious label; just post more than 10x. I set the bar that low and it just occurred to me that the rule applies *after* it was set. So, post.D'Oh! Posted by liquid metal on Jan. 27 2002,18:19
so wait no more n00b after 10 posts?
Posted by editor on Jan. 27 2002,18:29
I cheated; after that post I changed it to 5 posts, and detvet to 6 posts. I hope it works!

I dunno, do that many people think it's such a big deal? A rose (or pile of dung) by any other name...

I got a little hate-mail. Some people take labels seriously. I sure am getting an education on the admin CP, though!

WrineX had an interesting idea or 2, so member options has been changed so that after one post you can change your title. -whew-so how did some people already do it? "hacking? I am SHOCKED to find hacking in this establishment!" 'course maybe they got another admin to do it, but it was fun to write that! Posted by WrineX on Jan. 27 2002,22:11
Uuhhhhh Yeah!!! Reckonize!!!i don't know for sure about calling new people "untermensch" however. Maybe El Numero Uno / cr0bar / Jason could shed some light over the matter. At least it sparks some debate... |
