Merry Goddamn Christmas one and all.

When exactly DID the magic go out of this holiday? Honestly? Remember when it was like a MONTH of anticipation for it to be xmas? Now all it is is 2 weeks off school, and a requirement that everyone spend exorburant amounts of $$ on things that people will return half of anyway.

So, how was everyone else's christmas eve/day?

I got to visit with my two cousins and some other family that I generally don't get to very often. I still have to work 2 more days between now and the 2nd. I worked a few hours today, and a full 9 hour day on Saturday. Just because I need to get out of debt with my parents. (I'm down to ~$500 now)

..maybe this should've been in rants...

but, seriously, I truly hope you all had a great christmas.

I don’t celebrate Christmas I am a nonreligious agnostic. But it sure is nice to get new stuff and to be around the relatives you like.

It was surprisingly nice. :) My aunt was here as she is every year, and my grandfather. The beginning was sad as usual - visiting my grandma who has been in a coma for 5 years now and doesn't recognize anyone - but the evening got to be rather nice. Very quiet and family-style but we didn't scratch each other's eyes out which is already a success, and I really liked being with the family and not being stressed and in a hurry for once. I slept in the cellar because my aunt has my bed for the time she's here - so I ended up around midnight in the double bed in the cellar with a good book and a glass of whisky. :)

I understand now why this is the time of year that alot of people get depressed. Christmas seems like a reminder to me of just how little I have. I got one present folks, a cd spindle. We could barely afford that. Plus I couldn't get any of my friends anything because I just dont have the cash. So be thankful that you CAN give other people things. I would love to...

I forgot where I got this from, but it's always a good one:

'Twas The night before christmas ....... Politically correct for all
you bitches out there

'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck....
How to live in a world that's politically correct?
His workers no longer would answer to "Elves"
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
And labor conditions at the north pole
Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,
Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear
That Santa had better not use just reindeer.
So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,
Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!
The runners had been removed from his sleigh;
The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A.

And people had started to call for the cops
When they heard sled noises on their roof-tops.
Second-hand smoke from his pipe had his workers quite
frightened.
His fur trimmed red suit was called "Unenlightened."
And to show you the strangeness of life's ebbs and flows,
Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose
And had gone on Geraldo, in front of the nation,
Demanding millions in over-due compensation.

So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife,
Who suddenly said she'd enough of this life,
Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz,
Demanding from now on her title was Ms.
And as for the gifts, why, he'd ne'er had a notion
That making a choice could cause so much commotion.
Nothing of leather, nothing of fur,
Which meant nothing for him. And nothing for her.
Nothing that might be construed to pollute.
Nothing to aim. Nothing to shoot.
Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.
Nothing for just girls. Or just for the boys.
Nothing that claimed to be gender specific.
Nothing that's warlike or non-pacific.
No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.
Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth.

And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden,
Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden.
For they raised the hackles of those psychological
Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.
No baseball, no football...someone could get hurt;
Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt.
Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passe;
And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.

So Santa just stood there, disheveled, perplexed;
He just could not figure out what to do next.
He tried to be merry, tried to be gay,
But you've got to be careful with that word today.
His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground;
Nothing fully acceptable was to be found.

Something special was needed, a gift that he might
Give to all without angering the left or the right.
A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision,
Each group of people, every religion;
Every ethnicity, every hue,
Everyone, everywhere...even you.
So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...
"May you and your loved ones enjoy peace on earth."

my xmas kind of sucked.  I asked for a dsl modem (trouble of getting: calling ISP, throwing down 75 bucks or less), upgrade to webhost (trouble of getting: asking me who the new host was, and filling out a couple forms, 50 dollars), and a tux the linux penguin hat (trouble of getting: thinkgeek.com, filling out form, 15 bucks).  All I got was the hat.  Dad's "not to sure" on the modem, and I'm kind of to blame for the webhost for not showing it to them so they know where to go, but still...  Got a couple cd's, some clothes, and some candy.  woo!

I've been happily intoxicated every night since I got here, went snowboarding on Sunday in absolutely clear weather, now chilling with friends of the family back in Seattle. . .yeah, this has been a pretty successful holiday.

Why is it that some people respond in terms of how much crap they got or didn't get when asked about their Christmas?
Posted by Rhydant on Dec. 25 2001,19:25
hrm.... maybe its because these people you speak of (like me) are freeloading bastards.

yeah. i think thats it.

ooo.... these socks feel nice.

Because some people are more material oriented than you are, and because Christmas has become an unassociated gift-giving festival rather than a religious celebration, as it was originally intended to be.

Not that I don't enjoy recieving gifts .

Merry Christmas detnet, one and all!

I got to do the drive-to-the-divorced parents' houses
a slice of cake
a CD case for 240 CD's.   I was thinking more along the lines of a 50-CD case, but perhaps with detnet I'll end up filling it!

I got home just now, perfectly clear day in LA, and started calling my friends who were going to walk me thru TFP.
Oh yeah.  They're on xmas mode.

A month ago, I Microsoft/updated TFP, wondering why I was doing that when I didn't know what it was!  Now I have a clue.  Did you ever do something without knowing why you did it?  TFP was like that.  And so was getting detonate!

I like to think Christmas came a few days early.....
the big present was detonate.net!!!:)

I had a good christmas, I got to see my family once again, and that I am truely thankful for since some of them are fighting for their lives.  I also thought this was an eye-opener (I cried but I am a sap for these things), it was written by a marine stationed in Okinawa Japan.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
> AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD WINTERS CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

FTP, maybe?
Posted by Wiley on Dec. 26 2001,05:11
Could mean TFTP or FTP, who knows.  (here is the < diffrence > if you ever wanted to know)  I use TFTP to upload router configs ...that about the only use I have for it.  FTP is getting easier every day, especially since the addition of drag and drop FTP into IE5 and later.  All you need to open the ftp server is the ftp:// url (ftp://ftp.server.com), how can that be hard to master?  You can even pass credentials (ftp://anonymous:pass@ftp.server.com) this way.

Coming from the original, "look-at-my-parent's-car-I'm-rich-you're-not" troll.

Anyway, merry belated Christmas to all. I spent my time doing nothing special. Eating, smoking pot, and playing RTCWolfenstein. Heh.

Oooh, and I got new skis, which sport a free pair of bindings from a friend sponsored by Rossi (the DIN goes to 18, fer Christ's sake!). My parents subsidized the purchase as well, which was a very nice gift. :)

Overall Christmas fun: 6 out of 10. Nothing special.

Now, for New Year's, it's a whole new story. Dare I talk the trip to Las "Sodom and Gomorrah" Vegas? (Ain't it funny how every year there's something new threatening the safety of Vegas during New Years?...riots...political instability...millennial doom...terrorism...).

Vegas. What a town.

I've been in Vegas for New Years the last 4 years.  Although this year I'm slacking and I still don't have a room.  And I'm debating about the trip because I'm working the 31st.  Something tells me I will be there though  ...I can't stay away from sin. :)
