As most of you are already aware, " detonate.net " hasbeen placed upon the auction block at e-bay recently.
It is with great pleasure to announce that "kbreak" is
now the proud owner and soul operator of this well ran
web-site. Let us take a moment and welcome "kbreak"
It should be an interesting journey to say the least.
At this time we would like to inform all of you fellow
followers and participants that even though
" detonate.net " is under new ownership,
the same things you came to love and appreciate
shall remain as they were. If anything that should
change in this ever changing world, we hope that
" detonate.net " only changes for the better.
Please be patient with the change-over and understand
that in this time of transition there may be a few bugs in the system
and possibly a few loose links from time to time,
we promise with your patience and understanding all will be like and as it should be.
This web-site is based entirely upon the viewers and
participants, without you this web-site would never be
what is it today. Let's all do our part and make this
a community we can all enjoy and relate too.

I've already ranted about the forums on both sites.Richard T and I may be spouting off, but we're up to something.
To us, the forums are great, but we like content.
You know, the things cr0bar did.
Both of us are working on keeping the spirit of detnet alive.
It appears to me that detnet is different things to different people. "duh"
I cruised detnet for over a year and never visited the forums. I surf fast and rarely stay at a site for more than 5-10 minutes, usually seconds.
I've been at the forums now for umm...lower right corner, 4.5 hours.
Richard tends to bark a tad, but he has content for me and he cares about detnet.
Somewhere, (ok, oregon) cr0 is watching me. Don't think I don't think about that!

Not that it's your decision to make, but you obviously know nothing about what I do -- which is pretty ignorant of you, if you're going to blast my design skills. I'm helping out kbreak, not anyone who wants to be whiney because I used to flame them in the forums. Anyhow, take a look around the forums since they got rebooted and see how many people I've flamed out. To my knowledge, the answer is one. That was the guy who posted the same message in every forum.Maybe if you took a look around you might realize that just because I called you a "fucktard" one time doesn't mean I'm incapable of competent web design, something that I've been practicing professionally for 5 years now. Thanks for the open-mindedness.

And what impact does that have on my ability to design a website? My hobby/job is designing websites. I enjoy it very much. Kbreak asked for design proposals, so I drew one up, and he likes it. I think I'm missing where your personal opinion of me comes into the equation.

well, that was an interesting read.One of the interesting aspects of being a n00b is that I don't know who I'm "supposed" to hate, and I just plain like everybody here!
One person told me I shouldn't get worked up about content and just look out for the forums first.
I don't wish to have the responsibility of making descisions about the forum as I'm too new.
I'll see what the community says and I rely on several trusted people to advise me when necessary. I want to be real careful about that topic.
I thought the homepage might be going up this weekend, perhaps Monday. It'll be a little sparse at first.
I think "fucktard" is rich. I'm stealing that.
The parodies should be up on Richard's page tonite!

ok... ummm....more insite. kbreak, do whatever you want with detnet. You own it now. If you want to make the regulars happy, ask us what we want. Try not to rely on others to help make this thing work, lets just get everything how it needs to be now, and then we'll see where things go from there.
You're correct in coming here not hating anyone. It's the best way. Don't figure "ok, these guys hate him, so I will too". Come to your own opinions. Take a couple hours one day (if you really want, you don't have to) and read through the old threads. Figure it all out on your own.

Hey Spydir, thanx for the input. I'd love to go thru the old threads, but I'm spending a lot of time writing here, and on masterslate (a little bit) and writing people for support. I've gone to several people's houses to look at this and that. I'm also learning some of what I need to know to work on the site. I spend about 4-5 hours a day on detonate. And I have a job. I suspect you may not have seen all my posts, since I have asked for advice repeatedly!My priority is to get a site up, and adjust it later. And then the split forums....

It is in everyone's best interest to get the main page going, and whoever doesn't like it, just go straight to the forums.

So "fucktard" is copywrited by W in 1999...I stand "connected".I had wanted to start a "design a new detonate homepage" contest after I got some drafts to look at, and the despised Richard is the only person sending me stuff to look at.
It's interesting that no one defends R, either. It looks like duSTman is right.
I've talked with R on the phone today, and he's 'splained some stuff to me. You know, phones are even faster than ICQ! He's filled me in a little about the past history and the arc of detnet and he never said a nasty thing about the people flaming him here.
I'm still not defending him, just reporting facts.
It bothers the n00b within me that I'm working with someone despised. It gives one to ponder.
He said not to take it so seriously, 'cuz I was, and he said people (him included) like to flame each other. Oh. OK.
I showed another designer the draft Richard has, and the guy said he didn't like the color....well, if that's the biggest complaint, we're doing real well! I'm not really concerned with color, just the CONTENT.
I'd ask cr0bar more often for advice and his opinions, but the feeling I get is that he's more a spectator, now. And I see his posts, so I know he's around.
I found out from R that cr0 and I share a bad habit!
Made me feel right at home, too.
I've looked a little into the old threads, and it's real confusing to find out that some of you have changed nic's. Kind of like reading one of those Russian novels where people change names....who can keep track?
Kinda glad I don't have the time to get into flaming.

Every other time I've tried to quit flaming people, I end up turning around and slamming someone right back into the ground. Ah, well.I guess I should just be content to be the "official asshole of detnet"
There's no one way about the fact that I'm trying hard to help with this new site, though. So don't come around telling me I suck the shit from a dead goat, because I'm working a fair amount on the new detnet, and I most certainly wouldn't be doing all the work if I didn't care about this comunity and the site.

ok... Fine. Although I don't know if it's the best idea to get the history of syf0nizing from syf0n himself, it's good enough for me. Yes, richy's a hated member of the group. No, I will never change my opinion that he's an ass. BUT... whatever.Maybe someone should setup a little "am I design or not" thing, where we can have a bunch of designs and everyone votes on it. No names should be attached to the design, just to make sure there's no "it's that asshole, I'm gonna vote low". Kinna like what they got over at www.oswd.org (kick ass site, btw).

OhIgetit. Richard must've been syf0n, right? hmmm.R is still creating a new homepage and not one other single person has sent a link to a draft.
Several people have expressed interest in designing a page, but if they don't show me CONTENT, there won't be a contest.
I'm open, but R has some good ideas and he's working on them. He says he has some bastardizations, too.
After New Years, we've got to do something about the split forums.
I still really like the work I saw at the Mac place across the street, but the guy smokes too much pot and isn't responsible. I mean, an 8th every 4-5 days? How can he remember his name? An 8th will keep me happy for 10-14 days. *wait*....want Doritos....must play music....must watch TV with the sound off...why do I feel horny? Oh, and I'm a little thirsty... if I may interject here - hating Richard seems rather petty to me. Personally I'm quite impressed with the way he's handled himself since he came back, especially given how many people make a hobby out of hating him.When he first got here he tried to impress us all by telling us about his $$$ and his cars. When that didn't work he turned to wild flaming and harrassment which eventually got out of control, so cr0bar shut him down.
That kind of shit has been over and done with for quite some time now. Forgive and forget, I say - he's been mellow since he's been back, many of his posts are actually quite witty, and he definitely has a talent for the visual arts.
It looks to me like he's grown up a lot. Some of you might want to consider doing the same.

at heavy risk of getting flamed into next year, here goes:I stopped reading detnet. for a LONG time. whilst a few new faces have appeared, a few old ones have faded, most have stayed constant.
i enjoyed the time spent cruising the detnet forums whilst waiting for my SNES roms to finish downloading, and met a number of entertaining people. whilst i can't comment on the most recent developments, ever since i started visiting the forums (not soon after i first visited < cr0bar.cjb.net > and its subsequent transformation) i met a number of amusing people. whilst i can't say i always saw eye to eye with everyone, i'd like to think that i got on well with most, INCLUDING syf0n, CatKnight and old favourites such as PersonGuy and kuru. i bear nobody any ill-will, and found you all an entertaining diversion.
except jim, if anyone remembers him.

Ah yes, senor Korn.Problem is, I want to do a quality job, and I need to get detnet up again faster than later.
Syfon has had an interesting history here. His new placement as homepage designer is like a plot twist out of a movie.
There has been some emailing going on privately, and I've heard a lot both pro/con about RT.
He has done nothing to abort my trust in him. He's doing what seems like quality work to me. I just would like it done faster, as always.
I 'spose I'll have to get used to his flames as like the rest of the community. I certainly believe it would be in his best interests on the forums to produce content instead of flames.
R seems to me to have a drive to be "right" at all costs. I have the same compulsion; what's interesting is when I find out I'm wrong and I get to learn something useful!
I need to remember it always takes longer and costs more and is more trouble than the estimate--*always*
Perhaps what RT is doing is an act of contrition, or revenge.
It will be interesting/amusing/fun to watch me go through the learning curve, esp. for me...
I want what's best for detonate.net!
For now, that's getting a page up!
I do not find it useful to have RT flame people who may be useful for detnet. I may just have to get used to his somewhat acerbic personality!
We'll see.

I need to find out how to import bookmarks, same as with the newer and safer email program; it imports all right, but from Outlook Express! I thought I got rid of that ages ago. It must be sharing files with the current email program. I'll ask my friend "hacker guy" about that in the AM.

and there are a couple who will remain anonymous and I'm deeply grateful for them,
and DSL who has been like a rock for me and has put up with numerous cries for help and action without ever losing his cool.
He has a stabilizing influence on the forums and I'd like to know more about him.
I think he's changing jobs and he knows about computers and he doesn't swear much. I know nothing more; will check his profile later.

You got to form your own opinions about people. Post have a way of being interpreted differently by various readers. Sometimes something somebody says strikes a nerve and you go on a two page rant about it, flaming the original poster during the course of the rant. When the dust settles it's hard to explain that you didn't dislike the man ..you disliked the idea expressed by the man. Also sometimes people can assume that one's skin is thicker then it actually is. Ten people will flame someone as a larf, but the flamee takes it to hard ...can lead to unintentional hurt feelings. I've said some things about people and their mothers without thinking, then a week later I get a message asking why I hate them. I'm like, huh? I wasn't even serious ...I know your mother is not working the streets. I mean, how could she be working the streets when she's been here sucking me off every night this week.

Since you seem to be into to the astrology thing, I'm Pisces. I'm also the eldest in my family.Additionally, I'm going on vacation. And there's not much I can do about it. I'd love to help with your site and all, as I think I've proven, but my family takes precedence over anything internet related. I'm going to finish packing, and I'm leaving at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning.
Good luck with the site, but I don't know if you still want my help or not -- your pm messages/forum posts/emails have been, when totalled up, sort of bipolar -- I get a different feeling from every one. Hopefully by the time I get back you'll have a better feel for what needs to be done. I think one of the problems right now is that you're eager to take the helm, but don't know exactly what shots to call from the director's chair.

Seems to be really popular with guys overseas in the military and they've
been hammering the site!
I've been hosting a small Windows Media version, and an MPEG-1 suitable for
VCD. I also have an MPEG-2 for SVCD that's higher quality but I don't post
it because of it's size. Let me know if you want it or any other formats.
I look forward to seeing the site go live again. I recognize the name but
don't remember what the site was for?<<<everything and nothing>>>(editor)

No offense meant, kevin -- just relating that as a "n00b" I know you don't have it all under your belt yet, though you're very eager and willing to learn. Some things have to be hurried in the beginning, and some things don't. When I come back I'll see what's going on, and hopefully I'll be able to lend a hand.
