All around, it is one of the best movies that Rshias has seen to date.  There were a few moments that left him thinking "WTF" due to a somewhat altered storyline, but it was still an excellent representation of the series.  Can't wait to see it again.

If you're a fan of the books, just be willing to accept a bit of skipping around, and you'll love it.  It may have been even better without knowing the storyline in advance.  Other than that, the only letdown was that poor 'ol Gimli didn't get to kick much ass this film.  Hopefully he'll be allowed to make up for it at Helm's Deep with the next release.

And one last comment to those that have already seen it... what'd you think about the final blows in the battle between Aragorn and the leader Uruk-hai towards the end of the movie?  That Uruk-hai was hardcore.

Pretty fucking awesome!!!!!!!

Definitely this series has the potential to top Star Wars as my all time favorite series. I've been a fan of tolkien for years, and it is fantastic to be able to finally see it brought to screen in this manner.

The jumping around was not bad, and the "expanded" part of Arwen was simply having her take over the small role of the elf who caried Frodo across the ford to Rivendell.

One word: Forget the Matrix when you watch it, else you will have a really hard time seeing that Elrond is in fact one of the Good guys ;) Almost everyone in the theatre laughed when Hugo Weaving said two or three lines that seemed to mimic his role in "Agent Smith."

I'd have to say the effects were fantastic, and in the final battle scene, there is an awesome camera angle that I've never seen employed like that before: the camera pans through the trees about 20 feet or so off the ground, while the battle is going on below.

After the movie was over, I joined everyone in the theatre for a standing ovation. What was interesting was that 90% of the audience was my peers, about 15-25, and all showed various characteristics of those who live their lives more in the fantasy world than the real world :D

Definitely I will be seeing this movie several more times in theatres. I can hardly wait for the next one to come out, a year is far too long!!!!!!

all i can say is: wow.

just got back from the 8:00 showing. fucking awsome. especially the part when.....
...
hehehhe, just kidding.
lets just say that the movie 'enhances' a lot of stuff from the book. like when Frodo gets urges to put the ring on. fuckin nuts.

really kind of a dark movie... and i almost cried at the end.

the worst part is, though, that we have to wait TILL NEXT FUCKING YEAR to see the next movie. and then ANOTHER FUCKING YEAR to see the last one. crikey!

Totally agree, Rhydant.  A year between films is torture.

At least the next two movies should have a great deal of fighting in them.  The battle sequences were great.  They really couldn't have had a better director to create this film.  There's a fine line when dealing with the ammount of visual effects required for a movie of this type.  Many would have likely gone overboard and drawn attention away from the storyline.  They did an excellent job of getting a good mix of each.
