Damn, that happened fast, only 4-5 minutes; maybe it  was edited.

Gives one goosebumps, doesn't it?

For those on dialup, it's about 4 Mb of an audio file of the tower trying to understand what was happening on flight 93, and you can hear one of the highjackers.

well if you listen at about the 45 second mark they say "did you hear some intference sounded like screaming a couple minutes ago?" ... I think they cut out a bit (or didn't have the bit?) between the last transmission by the male ATC in cleveland and teh female voice asking about smoke on the right.

God that is disturbing! but thank you CK for bringing that.

such low audio quality......  can't really tell if its edited or not.

this is all i could make out of what the hijacker was saying:  "...the captain... ...we have a bomb onboard....  ...we're going to land at the airport...  ...our demands... ...so please remain quiet."  strange.

That plus the possibility of this having been edited makes me wonder even more about possible conspiricy theories.

edit:
LOL, i think the hijacker was trying to talk to the passengers over the PA when he transmited that....... ROTFL!!!

I heard it on the radio yesterday morning, and it didn't sound 'edited', it sounded kind of typical of a center-control tape. Pilots check in with center at intervals, not as if they're talking constantly, so it would make no sense to broadcast periods of dead air.

You hear the other planes in the area checking in, and you hear 93 checking in.... then there's a long period of nothing while 93 isn't broadcasting to Cleveland Center, except for that squawk of interference/screaming that comes across very briefly (or at least did when this was played on the radio).

From the point that the plane turned around to the time it crashed probably was less than 10 minutes since they never made it out of Pennsylvania airspace.

If you're in doubt, file a FOIA request on the cockpit voice recorder after Moussaoui's trial is over.

If I send you guys $5, will you promise to buy yourselves a sense of humor?  It defuses anger and pain a little bit, and I for one could use a little laughter about 9-11.  It doesn't degrade the victims, it honors them, and ain't no terrorist going to make me walk around angry and depressed and afraid all the time.

Personally, I think it's hilarious that my roommate woke me up with the words "WAKE UP!  WORLD WAR III JUST STARTED!"... he's always waiting for World War III...
