Here's the situation. I am currently a high-school sophomore in all honors and accelerated programs. Come my junior (or senior) year I want to quit high school and skip over to college. Aside from arguments that this would be 'hard' or 'difficult', how might I accomplish it?

For most schools that's impossible unless you get extra credits from summer school.
Posted by PersonGuy on Oct. 03 2000,14:14
Yah, I graduated as a juinor, but I got 3 high school credits in 8th grade, and I did 8 credits a year for my 3 years. Which was more than enough. Unfortunately my loan company went broke, so (although I'd been accepted) I never got into Digi Pen (Redmond, WA).

My suggestion is talk to the worthless guidence counsler and see if it is possible at all. And REMEMBER, a college prep diploma has NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO (zero, zilch) advantage over a regular one. It's only meant to challenge a student and prepair them for college. So you could probably just go with the regular one.

Hope that helps!

Consider this:

Unless you're a hardcore academic or going to college purely for vocational training, you probably don't want to go to college after your sohpomore year in HS. You'd be the odd man out.

Just cruise through HS and enjoy the ride. . .

i was asked to go to college after soph. year of high school and i turned it down.

i wanted to go through college at the same age as everyone else in college because i didn't want to be the odd one out. when all my friends go to the pub, i didn't want them sayin 'uh, sorry kuru you hafta stay home. you're not old enough to vote yet, they'll never let you in'

i'm glad i finished regular high school, graduated with all the idiots i'll never see again, went to college the same age as everyone else, and can now go get drunk off my ass with the guys right after exams are over.

I agree with Kuru. I just graduated college and it was an awesome time, even though I went to Nerd U. There is no need to rush it. Having a couple of years of high school that will be no effort is like a gift. Take that gift and love it. Have fun with little to no consequence on your school work. I would have loved it. Then, when you get to college, you are in the same boat as the other freshmen.

Would this be a bad time to say I disagree with 99\% of you?

I'm in all accelerated and honors, and yet the material is still SO SLOW for me that I NEVER pay attention or do homework. It leaves me barely passing. I don't want this for two more years.

Today my counselor encouraged me and showed me how to graduate my Junior year. I think I'm gonna do it, then go to college.

Well, after my experiences, I can say I disagree with you too. Take the opportunity to do something fun: tech crew for theatre, start up a geek club, speech/debate, etc. There are other things to do than homework. I don't think I really did much of any homework in my last 2 years of high school. I was doing band, tech crew, speech, rollerblading, etc. I had things to fill my time that were fun, not homework. Trust me. When you get to college, things will move fast enough for you. It certainly did for me.

I don't get involved in extracarricular(sp?) school stuff because it leaves me very bored and eats time I normally spend doing other things.

good luck dude, but judging from what i've seen of people who started college earlier than they chronologically should, they're not usually treated well.

also, if you're currently failing or nearly failing your accelerated and honors courses for lack of studying, you've got to face the reality that you probably will not do too well in college either. 99\% of the reason i had a tough time with college was lack of general study habits and/or study skills. i never did homework or stuidied in high school, i aced the classes, and then i got to college where the work was actually hard and i was fucked.

if i were suddenly 14 again, knowing what i do now, i'd have at least attempted to study just so that when i got to college and it all really counted, i wouldn't be tryin to learn it all at once.

good luck dude, but i do think you're crazy. it's hard to explain to someone who hasn't already been hit with the reality of the adult world that they should enjoy being young and having no responsibilities while they can.

yeah, just do what I'm doing
I've got maybe, 2 grade 11 courses this year (I'm in grade 10). I say maybe because I still have to take a test to get into the other, but it's all good. Anyways, graduating early isn't the way to go. I agree, cruise through your high school years. Always remember that there's never any turning back, and you'll regret not enjoying the ride on the one way street. God I hate analogies, but it makes sense ok?
So anyways, with these grade 11 courses, I can take blocks off in grade 12, or if I want to, I can graduate a semester early, and travel across america or something.
I agree though, if you're failing your classes, that's bad news. In my classes, they're pretty easy. Most of the time I draw, or think up stupid ideas for multi-billion dollar businesses. I haven't done homework in 3 years, but I still get B's in almost all my classes. Challenge yourself a bit. Sorry for the length, heh.

Hear hear! Well put. I heard it a million times when I was young: "enjoy your youth", and I never understood why they said it. People older than me now would say "enjoy your youth". I don't understand them now, but I understand the people a while back now. It's all full circle, we'll always warn those younger than us, and we'll never listen to those older. Oh well.

I recommend going into college at the normal time. Don't go in with anything wierd. If you go in thinking you are better than everyone else, you get smacked. Actually, it's not that they're younger that makes them be neglected. It's the social differences between someone who is 16 and 18... it's the difference between someone who has been in a high school setting for 3 years or 4 years.

Well, I'm not sure others agree with me, but I say go for it! (maybe...)

I'm doing a program here in Minnesota called the Post-Secondary-Enrollment-Option, which basically keeps your high-school status, while allowing you to take classes at a college (and getting high school + college credits for free). I'm not sure if Texas has anything like this, but if you get some of your friends to do this with you, all i can say is go for it.

I did this this year, and am basically getting 2 years of college for free, so by the time I graduate high school (if i play my cards right), i will have an a.a. degree or an a.s. degree at the same time i get my high school diploma. I did this with my friends and am just having a blast. I usually go into the college at 9am, and am done with classes about noon. much better than a high school schedule, imo.

I have a friend who started college at 16, and if you ask me it was a big mistake. He also tried to do waaaay too much at once his freshman year, since he was used to doing lots of extra-curricular stuff in h.s. He was in marching band, president of his building for RSA (Resident Student Association), and pledging a fraternity, all at once on top of all his classes. Boy had a total mental breakdown. Just take your time and enjoy high school. If nothing else it'll give you a bit of a mental rest before you have to hit the books in college.

RSnark, I say get done ASAP. And if you ARE worried about being young in college, just take the year off! Make a cool website and sleep in! Mabey even meet a nice lady. SERIOUSLY!

I would take all the AP classes you can and aim to get some of your stupid GE college requirements down, then I would take it easy until you're 18.

Challenge yourself and learn on your own without school. Heck, look at my sig for advice
